  1. Blueridge, HA to the above, hope you can make it out to the NC State ICORE match in May ( will be a bunch of them speedloader people). Regards, DB I am not saying that I'll come out at the top in speedloader, but I can make a better showing. I hope to make it out to the NC State ICORE match in May, so I'll have to get some experience with ICORE before then.
  2. Looks like I and the wife will not make it to Corky's. That will be two less to be expecting. See you all at the range on Saturday.
  3. I am only focused on those shooting the special "speedloader" category and D class. Beyond that I am going to get as much enjoyment out of shooting the match as I can. I will have some "extra" .45 Colt ammunition with me, but I doubt that anyone (aside from me) will be using that caliber.
  4. I figure that I might do well in the special category (presuming that enough participate in it) of "speedloader". I am most excited to be a part of such a large revolver match. I had hoped that there would be 30 revolver shooters, and it is great to see 65+ in the match. I have to make it back to Sir Walter to shoot a match again, but the next match on my calendar (after Memphis) is the Tim Daugherty(sp?) Memorial Toys for Tots Match.
  5. .....And of course the rockslide on I-40 will directly effect my travel plans , and It will add another hour to my travel time.
  6. I would love to be there, but my schedule will not allow for it. I'll be at the Memphis Charity Challenge the previous weekend (with 65+ revolver shooters ).
  7. I got my SDB for $300 WITH calipers, scale, bullet puller, etc.... I shoot about 10,000 per year. Crappy WWB: $25/100 (if you an find them) My reloads: $14/100 (as/more accurate than WWB with MIXED brass in MY GUN) $11/100 savings.... X 10,000 rounds = $1100 per year savings. The press pays for itself in 4 months. That's a new AR with optics worth of savings! Cost Breakout: Moly 147 bullets: $65/1000 (Bear Creek) Primers: $30/1000 (Multiple brands) Powder: $20/1000 (Solo 1000, 8lbs) Brass: $25/1000 (local range brass) Total: $140/1000 You can go much cheaper shooting 124gr bullets. JeffWard Something caught my attention in your math. You show the cost of the powder being $20 for the 8lbs of Solo 1000. There are 7000 grains in a pound, so if you used (for example) 3.5 grain charge when loading it would allow you to load 1000 rounds of ammunition with 1/2 pound of powder. That means that you could load 16,000 rounds of ammunition with that 8lbs of Solo 1000. That drops your calculation from $140/1000 to $121.25/1000. Appooximately $12.13/100 rounds of ammunition. That would be $1287 saved per year (based on 10,000 rounds), which is half the cost of WWB at $25/100. Based off of a 3.5 grain charge and reloading the 1000 rounds of brass 16 times, then you would only be buying the bullets and primers after your initial costs. That would come out to $1565/16,000 rounds of ammunition.
  8. Okay, but how did the others do? What was the criteria that you used to determine "best"? How much better was the walnut than the other two? Which came in second? Just curious.
  9. This was a great match last year. Anyone who can make it I highly reccomend it!
  10. 65+ shooters! I'll have to bring my "A" game........Now if I can just remember where I put it. Anyone have an "A" game I can borrow.
  11. about 3,000-4,000 a year. Most of that is from shooting matches (local, state, and others of state match size). I reload on a single stage press myself, and that causes me to choose carefully how much that I live fire and what matches that I go to.
  12. There are 55 revolver shooters listed at this time. Now I have to set my priorities. 1) Be safe 2) Have fun 3) Recover all of my brass 4) Don't finish last 5) Ignore all of the whispers about my revolver having a 2 1/2" barrel
  13. None other! I enjoy shooting .45 Colt too much to change to another revolver. It amuses me that people remember me shooting the Ruger Alaskan so much.
  14. The results from last year show 12 revolver shooters at the match. As there are 11 revolver shooters already, I expect to see that number surpassed by the time the match is full. Maybe there will be enough revolver shooters for 2 squads consisting of them (If people are interested in that). I'm already pre-registered for the match, and can hardly wait to get there and see the match stages.
  15. Okay I know that this is a little off topic, but why would you tune a revolver for a certain primer? What is the benefit? My revolver is stock and I have not had any trouble using any primers (Winchester, Federal, Magtech) that I have come across.
  16. I usually take 50% more than I think that I will need to a match, as I have had to reshoot long (27+ round) stages due to range equipment failure (and at my first big match too). Have fun shooting with your spouse. I myself am still trying to get my wife to participate in another Steel Challenge match (which is the only matches she will shoot in.)
  17. Count me (and my wife) in. It will be nice to meet the other shooters in a casual atmosphere.
  18. A stage that you want to do over because of all of the different ways that you considered approaching it from. A stage that is fun to shoot due to the variety of decisions that you have to consider, but not mentally taxing.
  19. Not a suggestion, just a comment.... Paddling upstream for me is using a Ruger Alaskan loaded with .45 Colt using HKS Speedloaders. I use one in IDPA and USPSA. Due to its weight I cannot use it in SSR, and thus must shoot it in ESR (but I don't really mind). By comparison sir I would suggest that you are simply treading water, and not paddling upstream.
  20. Out of curiosity (and since I signed up for it), are there enough people signed up for the "Speedloader" category for it to be recognized? I'll be using them either way, but I figured that I would ask.
  21. Showing 47 competitors at this time! This will definitely be interesting, and a whole bunch of fun.
  22. They ARE NOT limited to duty gear in USPSA. All you need is the requisite number of participants that meet the definition of military or LEO. You could have a LEO or Military category winner in every division that USPSA has, as long as there are 5 or more in the division category. Duty equipment has nothing to do with it. In IDPA there is a requirement for use of duty gear, from what I remember.
