  1. Beretta 92D.......When I am not shooting revolver division.
  2. As with any sport there are rules that create the parameters. Those who wish to participate do so by those rules. No sport is perfect, but does it's best to provide fair competition. Revolvers are generally considered to be 6 shot cylinders, and that is what I believe that the division was based on. There are a number of revolvers that have 7 & 8 shot cylinders, but they are the exception not the rule. As far as the question goes it seems more appropriate for the penalty to be a procedural, but the current penalty is that of being moved to open division.
  3. I believe that JFlowers is registered for Revolver. I am not sure beyond that. I would guess that we could have a revolver squad like last year, I just don't know how many will be attending. I am curious if the match is full yet. I would presume that it likely is by now, as it gets full quickly.
  4. I am glad to have participated in the first (of many) Memphis Charity Challenge matches. Those unable to make it this year I implore you to find the time to participate next year. Those that made it this year make the trip back, So that we can bring together as many people shooting revolvers for fun and a good cause.
  5. Well I was fortunate that you decided to record my shooting that stage for posterity then. With a bit of practice, I plan to make a better showing at next year's Memphis Charity Challenge. I saw on a post by the top "speedloader" category winner that he will be back to defend his title at next year's MCC. I plan to get the practice in to make it a challenge for him, or at least make a good run for second place.
  6. It has been suggested to me that there are some of the the "spring loaded" type (SL Variant ?) speedloaders that would likely work with the Ruger Alaskan. I have never had the opportunity to check this out in person, and really don't want to take a chance by ordering one that "might" work to try.
  7. I'll win my class (possibly even revolver division) someday, and there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (From my competition that is) Poor steel??? They knew what they were getting into when the got into the match. I never have to ask for a calibration check on the steel, that's for sure. I use the Alaskan in IDPA, USPSA, and Steel Challenge (with lighter loads). It has taken some work to get to the level of accuracy that I want, but I am more confident in my shooting ability in general with revolvers and autos. I intend to try my hand at ICORE in the near future. I have always used HKS speedloaders with my revolver. and though I plan to get some Blade-Tech speedloader pouches for competition, I'll still use the HKS pouches on a regular basis to keep in practice with them. I won't be changing the speedloaders to another type, by my choice. I never get tired of seeing that video from the Memphis Charity Challenge.
  8. Nice to hear that there was a good turnout. It does have a different feel shooting in a squad that has primarily (or all) revolvers.
  9. Okay, I'll admit it was not too bad, but it made a texas star look like child's play. Give me a couple of those over a polish plate rack any day. Only two more plates and easier to time the shots.
  10. Okay, that was a new one. I normally use the standard length 35" Foil and Epee swords. I generally finish better in the fencing events than shooting sports. They claim that I am a brute when fencing, but I just think that my opponents are much too delicate. When a 6'1", 250lb oponent is bearing down on you, most people try to get out of the way (at least the ones that value their lives ). Sounds like a new opportunty for Errk Lunge? Used to fence myself in college and I wish I still had the opportunity. The most fun I ever had was when I was about 28 I had to opportunity to score the first three hits on a hot shot 20 year old from Clemson in epee. He ended up beating me and told me I did OK for an old man and asked me where I learned to use an epee. He was not at all happy to hear that I had never used one but had only trained with a saber and foil. What college did you fence at? I fenced varsity at NC State back in the late 80's / early 90's.
  11. It is nice to get recognized, even because I am using a "hand cannon" of a revolver. For the record my Ruger Alaskan is .454 Casull/.45 Colt caliber, loaded with heavy (only 0.4 grains from max using Titegroup) .45 Colt loads. It was great to meet several people that I knew only from thier posts on here. I look forward to next years match already, but I request that the Polish Plate Rack be banned!
  12. Anytime I am going to a match, I'll be using the Alaskan. Retro Division here I come!
  13. You need a 6" barrel to deal with 50 yard poppers? I think that I can make those with my 2 1/2" barreled Alaskan. (You'll have to wait to see me prove that though. )
  14. Okay, that was a new one. I normally use the standard length 35" Foil and Epee swords. I generally finish better in the fencing events than shooting sports. 15. I'll probably have to wait to try ICORE until after the holidays. I will be there with my Alaskan and see how my 2 1//2" barrel fares against the longer barrels I see people normally use.
  16. I have been to a few matches at Sir Walter over the last few years, and enjoyed them very much. I was able to shoot the State Games of NC matches in 2007 & 2008, and medaled both times. I shot one of the NC USPSA State Matches at Sir Walter also. I need to make it back up to Sir Walter for the USPSA match, and Oxford for the IDPA match. I plan to try out ICORE (Retro Div.) when I can find the time. I have to balance my shooting matches with my olympic style fencing, as that is my primary sport/hobby. Gotta stay on track to compete in the US Fencing Summer Nationals coming up this July in Atlanta. (I've heard all of the fencing jokes before, so you can save your time. Just in case someone thought that they would be witty. )
  17. I happen to shoot a caliber that no one else I have met uses......45 Colt. I can generally pick it out easily from the other brass that is on the ground. I have even gotten my brass back from several "lost brass" matches, as the RO's don't want it and tell me I can pick it up if I want....I am just a very likeable guy I guess.
  18. Ahem...My Ruger Super Redhawk has a 2 1/2" barrel, thank you. My reloads probably do make 180PF, but I don't know for sure. I have chronographed a lighter and heavier load that what I used at the MCC, so I know that it is between 167PF and 185PF. I did not get the chance to chrono the load before the match. It is a blast (pun intended) to shoot it in matches, and seeing the reaction of the other shooters makes it even more fun (especially when I am making good 30+ yard shots). More on topic I think that an event such as The Memphis Charity Challenge was/is a great boost to the revolver division. It shows USPSA that there is a sizeable contingent that would shoot revolver in focused matches, as well as manufacturers seeing the size of the market. Even before the inaugural MCC match I was happy to hear that it was intended to be an annual match. Being able to shoot a match with the number of revolver shooters at the MCC was great, and finding all of the shooters that were trying revolver for the first time in a match was great too. It was not simple for me to put together the gear to shoot USPSA with the revolver that I use, but I was able to find companies such as BladeTech that could provide what I need.
  19. That is the first time that I have seen a video of myself shooting at a match. I knew that my 45 Colt rounds were louder than what other shooters use, but I did not realize that they were THAT loud.
  20. I had a blast shooting with you and all those in my squad. I have considered using other speedloaders than the HKS that I use currently, but have not found ones that work for 45 Colt. I really don't feel that I am efficient enough with the HKS speedloaders to change to another type at this time. Once I practice reloads more I will be able to gauge how much I might need to change to another type.
  21. Well Jerry Miculek Took top honors winning 7 of the 10 stages.
  22. I had a blast, and apparently so did several people who saw me shoot my Ruger Alaskan with 45 Colt ammo. . I'll definitely be back next year, barring unforeseen events. I was amazed to be 1 of 3 "D" shooters at the match, out of 75 revolver shooters . The stages were great, although I could have done without the polish plate rack on that one stage. Apparently someone decided to torture revolver shooters with that contraption. Revolver shooters are always up for a challenge, after all we ARE choosing to shoot revolvers with all of these auto categories around. Accuracy wise I feel great about my finish, but I definitely need some more work on my reloads. I and my Alaskan will keep sending 45 Colt downrange with the best accuracy and speed that I can muster. Don't be surprised if when you hear the cannon roar at a burm near you.
  23. I just wanted to post how impressed that I am with this match. The work from those planning and setting up the match, the sponsors that have provided donations for the match, and especially all of the people coming to the match. For this being the first year of a match that is to be an annual event, it looks to me that it will be hard to top what has been achieved this time.
