  1. Ok here is another question related to my extraction issue. The gun came with two extractors. One has two dots on it, which is the one that was installed from the factory. The other has three dots. They are subtly different in shape. Does anyone know what the difference is?
  2. Glad to find this thread. I have a TSO in .40 and have seen many of the issues you all have. Loose rear sight, buffer gets destroyed with low rounds, and I certainly agree the mag well fit is the worst. However, I am having a different issue I need help to solve. I am having FTEs at a rate high enough to get one or two in a match. The spent round is not fully extracted and the slide goes back and grabs a new round and jams it under the round that did not extract. This gun is as it came from the factory with the exception of me removing the buffer. Thanks in advance!
  3. No, they advertise them as 124s but my scale says no to that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I happend to run some loads through my G19 today over Titegroup so I thought I would share. Bullet - 115gr MG JHP Powder - 4.2 gr Titegroup OAL - 1.125 CCI SPP Avg velocity - 1103.7 Lowest PF 123.4 Avg PF 126.93 So this load was right on the edge of minor. Bullet - 125gr MG JHP Powder - 4.0 gr Titegroup OAL - 1.120 Federal SPP Avg velocity - 1065.3 Lowest PF 131.6 Avg PF 133.2 Plenty of Margin there Bullet - 125gr Zero JRN Powder - 4.0 gr Titegroup OAL - 1.120 CCI SPP Avg velocity - 1073.6 Lowest PF 126.1 Avg PF 134.2
  5. I was working up a production load for my XD Tactical (5inch) and I had a few bullets to try so I thought I would share the data in case it helps someone. Bullet - Montana Gold JHP 125 gr Powder - Titegroup - 4.0gr OAL - 1.125 Federal SPP Avg for three strings - 1118, 1119, and 1124 Lowest PF of 134.5 with an avg PF of 139.9 These had a high STDEV, not sure of reason, but they feel great and the gun loves them. Very accurate. Bullet - Zero 125gr JRN Powder - Titegroup - 4.0gr OAL - 1.120 CCI SPP Avg for two strings - 1134, 1123 Lowest PF of 139.25 with an avg PF of 140.4 The zeros felt exactly like the MG 125s and were just as accurate. I would let price decide this choice. Bullet - Montana Gold JHP 115gr Powder - Titegroup - 4.2gr OAL - 1.120 Federal SPP Avg for two strings - 1157, 1154 Lowest PF of 130.6 with an avg PF of 132.7 I didnt prefer the way the front sight came back with the 115 over the heavier 125s. For whatever reason they are not quite as accurate either, but accurate enough for certain.
  6. Sorry, love the MG 124 and used with several powders but not blue dot. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. In my opinion I like N320 the best for 9mm and .40. It is very consistent and clean. As some have stated I don't think it meters as well as other choices but is a good choice for lead or not fully jacketed bullets. It also is very expensive and harder to find. WST is very temperature dependent (inversely) and I don't use it for this reason. The chrono doesn't lie. I use Titegroup most often, but I don't believe it is the best. Cheap and easy to find. Meters well and is consistent. It is hot, a bit dirty, and very smokey and not a good choice with lead but it simply works. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Ok I have been using a 650 for seven years or so, mostly .40, .45, and 9mm. I watched your video of the bullet feeder and feel like I just discovered the wheel. I love it. Looks like you have some other good ideas as well. Thanks for sharing......I have some websites to visit! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. After loading a lot of pistol calibers for years and experimenting with a lot of different die combinations in a 650, I think for 9mm your best bet are the Dillon dies. The reason.....A progressive press will always work smoother with dies that are designed for one. (i.e. a little larger opening) If you set up the press correctly (and many people believe they have but don't) and the brass you are using hasnt been abused (which shouldnt be a problem for 9mm) then it will work very well. I rarely ever have a round that wont gauge. If you want to use a Lee FCD, the impact on smoothness of operation is minimal, but noticeable. If you go to dies like the EGW undersize die to take out a Glock bulge in brass, you will significantly impact how smooth the press operates. You can minimize the effect by tearing down your press and using the Dillon alignment tool to get the press perfectly aligned, but it still wont operate as smoothly. A micrometer seating die just isnt necessary for almost any pistol loading. In short, unlues you have a very good reason for needing to get tricky with your dies that isnt due to something else you are not doing correctly, stick with the Dillon dies and you will be happier.
  10. All great suggestions but honestly working on her grip is the real fix. My oldest daughter learned to tame the recoil well with practice on her grip. Scott Springers videos helped her to understand when we started.
  11. I too am watching my Fed Ex tracking number like a 7 year old child. I previously had a 650 with several pistol calibers (divorce is expensive) and cant see buying anything else. Thanks to a great family I am waiting on the Fed Ex guy like you. Congratulations!
  12. Just to throw out another recipe... 125gr MG JHP 4.0 gr TG 1.120 OAL .376 crimp Very accurate and reliable out of a totally stock G19. I would be making a mistake to change a thing.
  13. I recently bought a used SVI. The previous owner told me that the mag springs would need replaced so I opted for the Grams springs and followers from Shooters Connection. Now, I don't know anything about somebody changing any descriptions, but I read about them on the site and they arrived as described. (Keep in mind that at that point I had owned an SVI for about three days.) I decided I would change out 2 of the 4 mags and go to the range. I followed the instructions that came with them and modified two of them (i.e. took a small file and removed a little material from the follower) in about 8 to 10 minutes. I checked them with my dummy rounds to make sure they would not lock back with 1 round left and went to the range. They worked perfectly! The used springs did not work well, as expected. I modified the other two and for the first time this year I went to two matches without have a single problem with the pistol I was using. Finally!! How could I complain?
  14. +1 1.130 was the ideal length for my 35
  15. Thanks Kyle, I appreciate it. I do know how much you care (i.e. not at all) about the looks of a gun. I wont be able to make it up there because my day is packed. I sold my 67 442 on ebay and the guy is picking it up today. The crack looks like it was from an impact to me because the grooves machined into the top of the hammer are not completely intact. You cannot see any gaps in the metal, but the crack does go from one side to the other. Based on the size of it, it looks to me like it should not affect anything. I just wanted to ask the opinion of more experienced shooters. From what I can tell by comparison, it looks like the original SV part. Looks like the only thing that was changed is the pistol has an Aftec extractor. I asked the seller and he said that if it was cracked, he was not aware. I never did get to see the outer box it was shipped in because the FFL that transferred it had opened it and tossed the outer packaging. Thanks for the replies.
  16. I recently bought a used SVI in .40 for limited and when it arrived I noticed a couple of issues. The first was that the grip safety did not work (which should be an easy fix) but the second is that the hammer has a very small (hairline) crack in the upper back part of the hammer. The crack extends from one side to the other and would be just under your thumb, if you were to pull the hammer back with your thumb. I have not fired it yet. How much of an issue is this? Should I send it to SVI and have them replace it? The pistol is in great shape otherwise and looks excellent. I suppose it could have happened in shipping but I will never know. Any suggestions? This is my first S_I.
  17. I was curious if you felt it was too snappy. I usually shoot 180s, but when I saw that precision only had 185s, I thought I would opt for the lighter 170s. I usually prefer a faster recoil, rather than a slower push with the heavier bullets. I think what you are looking for (i.e. how the sight tracks for you) is spot on. I don't really care what weight the bullet is if the sight tracks well. Maybe by the end of this week I will have a load worked up and I can see for myself.
  18. Why do you wish you got the 185s?
  19. My order of 2500 170s just arrived. Pretty accurately two months behind. I have been reading other threads and it appears that my normal choice for powder (Titegroup) is not the best choice for molly coated bullets. I have seen WST suggested many times. I have used WST in the past and found it to be too temperature sensitive. Is N320 the next choice? What is the most economical choice for a powder that is good for molly coated lead? Also, I am now loading these for a 5" SVI. I gather from other threads that 1.180 OAL is a good place to start. Does it sound like I am heading in the right direction?
  20. Are there any flooding issues down there that restrict access to any roads? The rain has been pretty steady this morning. Saturday does look to be a good day. It will be nice to shoot in decent temperatures.
  21. Does anyone use the Precision 170 gr with Titegroup? If so, can you post some load data? I am running a G35 in Limited and need to work up a major load with this bullet. With Rainier 180gr and 4.7 gr of Titegroup @ 1.130 I make about 170 - 172pf.
  22. I did a search on this one before I ordered mine. Plenty of info on this site about both. I have the Dawson and I have one mag that I can only get 17 in. I believe the problem is that the spring catches on some extra material (plastic) left over from manufacturing. I fixed one of the others by cleaning up the inside. I can only get 19 in any of them though.

    dead bang?

Can someone explain it to me? It is a rod and a spring. Am I missing something?
  24. I have had this same problem with #8 followers. I have only noticed it when the magazine is empty and the slide is forward. Because of this I never considered it a problem. I don't find myself in a position where I am dropping an empty mag with the slide forward.

    Dawson Sights

I just wanted to share this experience. I have used Dawson sights, mag extensions, mag wells, and other parts for some time now and have never had a problem. I recently have been having problems with the rear sight on my G35 that I use for limited. I called Dawson to discuss it and Dave called me back, sent me some new screws, and said "if that does not fix the problem send your slide to me and I will put a new one on for you." I whined and explained that I only have that one gun to use for matches, and I have one this weekend. They received it yesterday and I will have it tomorrow. This is one big reason I will continue to buy from Dawson. (The other reason is that I really like their stuff!)
