  1. The FO rods are all pretty much the same, just be sure you get the correct diameter. Red will be brighter than green...too bright for me, its so bright that in sunlight it obscures the edges of the front sight. I usually dim down the green rod by painting part of it black and would fine with a plain black front. Speedshooterspecialties.com sells FO rods by the inch so you could try different colors. They also have pretty much anything else you can think of for your M&P needs.

  2. Gordon is not a SSP MA he is a SSP DM (different classification)so he should not be included in any awards or listing for SSP MA's. You should have received a 4th place award.

Exactly...not only that, the guy who placed behind me didn't get recognized at all when he should have been presented 5th place at the awards. I'm not suggesting that its the MD and crews fault, they did an outstanding job putting on the match and made the best of the situation that the new DM class created.

  3. Some friends at the match said Gordon did not accept anything for 1st Master.

The other little problem with the DM deal is that they will still be listed as MA. If a shooter is sponsored or looking for sponsors or trying to explain to anyone it is a confusing explanation why they are listed as 2nd but really 1st.

Good point. I came in 5th (4th adjusted) out of 15 SSP Masters. As others have said, Shannon won DC and Gordon was listed as 1st Master in the results. Deon Martin is listed as 2nd. After the awards were given out, the MD director simply said "everyone moves up up one placing" because Gordon was DM. IMHO, Deon didn't get the recognition he deserved for placing 1st SSP MA class at the awards, I think everyone was a bit confused and I wasn't sure what place I really came in. I do know I came home with a 5th place award and not a 4th place award. Shouldn't they have shifted the awards around after the adjustment? I'm thinking with more time this will get worked out.

  4. The P22 is known to run ok with CCI Mini-mag ammo...if the M&P22 has to use premium 22 ammo because it doesn't run well with the cheap bulk pack stuff, I'd have to pass. Why shoot a 22LR when you can reload 9mm lead for almost the same price?

  5. It would be nice to get confirmation of your entry and check

I received a confirmation email with more detail on the match about 3 weeks after I sent my entry and fees in.

It said "I have received your registration information. This message is to confirm that you are pre-registered for the 2011 USPSA Area 6 Pistol Championship in Frostproof FL on April 15-17." and other match info.

  6. So if I take my car to a mechanic next week, I should tell him to:

If you are serious about maintaining your car, you should tell your mechanic to take a hike, buy a shop manual for your car and learn to do the preventative maintenance and repairs yourself. As a teen, I learned how to lower my car, swap out the engine, change the radiator, starter motor, etc. Parts don't last for ever. I learned how to do bodywork and how to paint a car as well. Learn about your car, how it feels the sounds it makes, if something doesn't feel right, fix it right away. If you don't know how, its a good time to start.

It helps to start with a good foundation like a Toyota or Honda. I had a 1986 CRX with 260k miles, and a 1990 Integra with over 200k miles before I sold them. They were both still running good. I have a RAV4 now and I plan on it lasting well over 300k.

  7. My petite 11 year old daughter went from airsoft to 130PF 9mm with no problem. She's not strong enough to rack the slide but recoil is no problem. She does have strong hands for her her size though from playing piano for 5 years, just not the muscle to rack the slide yet.

  8. I dont think the first senario above will work and you can only do the drop and close - when you drop the hammer onto an empty chamber in an 11/87 you cant then directly load into the mag tube because the interceptor latch retainer (?)comes across partially blocking the mag tube entrance stopping you being able to load a shell - you would either have to rack the action so the hammer is cocked and then load the mag tube, or hold the action open and drop a shell into the breech.

I was playing around with this last night. Mike is correct, once you pull the trigger on an empty chamber you can't load the magazine tube. i found the fastest solution for me, since I am a lefty, is to hold the bolt back with the left hand like a slingshot, and drop a shell in with the right hand. Hopefully this is a rare occurrence, if you pull the trigger on an empty chamber you pretty much hosed the stage anyways! It would be faster to put in an extra shell you don't need, or don't miss so you don't thow off your count.

Z-man...Neal asked "is bolt closing on an empty chamber or is it trying to close with a round partially on the carrier?" If its not kicking a round out than the problem isn't the 870 carrier.

  9. ok...did the 870 carrier mod on my 1187 20 gauge LT and I just wanted to confirm that it does work a advertised. Not one malfunction during my testing using 7/8 birdshot. The action feels faster (less clunky?) and it loads easier than the EZloader. You could actually do this mod without the 870 carrier if you wanted to try it temporarily, just remove the carrier latch and release button (although you'll have a hole where the button was).

I can also see why the "tactical crowd" may suggest this mod. It allows you to stow the gun with the tube loaded, chamber empty and chamber a round by just pulling the charging handle back and releasing it. In stock or EZloader configuration sometimes the bolt would drop and sometimes not when cycling by hand. On my gun I always had to hit the EZloader to drop the bolt. When I do see an 1100/1187 malfunction in 3 gun its usually the bolt held open with a shell on the carrier probably by a non-tuned EZloader. In any case, that malfunction isn't going to happen with this mod (since there is no BHO at all). You might get another malfunction, but that one isn't happening. I've heard people say that you need to be sure you have a strong enough magazine spring so the timing is correct, but in stock form you have o have a strong enough spring anyways to ensure the shell coming in hits the release hard enough to drop the bolt.

For me the benefits outweigh not having BHO and I'm going to run like this for next season. Thanks Braxton and Intel.

  10. It really felt a lot like an FN, not having that "pause" built into the firing cycle. It felt faster than any other 1100/11-87 that I've ever shot. I was REALLY happy with that one. I had another guy shoot it and he liked it also.

It loads just as easy as a Benelli or an FN, since you don't have to deal with a button or an EasyLoader.

The "doesn't lock back on an empty chamber" thing doesn't seem to be a deal-breaker.

The only issue that I had was that the operating handle fell out twice during that box of ammo. It has never done that before, so perhaps there is an oscillation in it that is set up by the faster cycle.

I may give this a try even though I have a perfectly working EZLoader in my 20 gauge. Would you say its easier to load than using the EZloader? The increase in cycling speed that you mentioned is also a plus that I didn't consider. I shot a friends M2 20 gauge back to back with my 1187 and the splits felt faster with the M2. If this mod makes the 1187 even close to that it will be worth not having a BHO.

  11. I have a SDB. Its a good press and gets a lot of use. Aside from what everyone else has said.... I've already broken 2 handle levers and the frame also developed a crack. Dillon always takes care of it but I would have to think a bigger Dillon press like the 550 or 650 is going to be more robust and be less prone to things breaking.
