  1. Idaho Falls has a great range. Check out www.seips.org. (South East Idaho Practical Shooters) Their range is just West of town, approximately 6.2 miles from the I-15 exit number 118. Last year's Area 1 Championship was held there. USPSA matches are the 2nd Saturday of the month starting at 9:30 am. (Year-round) Ranger6
  2. In .40S&W i use VV330 ,it's a nice powder , almost no flame and mild muzzleflipp. I don't know if this powder is good for .38super. And be careful if you test it out , it burns fast so start mildly. I use 5.5grains of VV330 in .40s&w with a 180grain bullet ,the length of the cartridge is 29.5. I just purchased a STI 38 Super Grandmaster, but have been shooting a STI Edge .40S&W with exactly the same powder load as Norwegian Viking. I have a bunch of vv330 powder and am wondering if it can be used in the 38 Super. Any help out there?
  3. I own one of Rick's holsters and think they are great. It's the only one I trust for 3 Gun matches. (I've seen way too many shooters sent home due to a "dropped gun" situation.) This holster is virtually custome made. COM is also a great supporter of our sport. Ranger6
  4. A Veteran A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'
  5. The original "moving" target was replaced by the two static targets as mentioned above. The steel hardcover was held in with spikes and buried under 6" of dirt to cover the original targets. The original group that shot the movers were required to reshoot the stage during the match. The two (replacement) static targets were "witnessed" and never moved during the match. The hardcover target did not move either and is still being dug out from the range. Ranger6

  7. I had a similar problem with my gun. One of the more experienced shooters at Area 1 looked at it and stated that the mag release spring was "weak". He had brought all kinds of parts with him and replaced the spring. I offered to pay him for it, bu he refused. The problem has gone away and I've not had any "dropped" mags since. Ranger6
  8. I liked the firearm and it functioned perfectly. One of the two guns had the piston set for "flash hider" blowback and caused some problems. Once it was adjusted to the "noise suppressor" setting, it ran very well. It's hard to get a good feel for something after shooting only 10 rounds full auto. The proof for this firearm will come from its use on the battlefield. Ranger6
  9. I'm driving home in December from the Ft Benning 3 Gun Challenge and over the radio the announcer states that the "XYZ Cafe has fried chicken so good that it will make you go home and Slap Yo Mama!" This was somewhere near Birmingham, Alabama and I had to pull over I was laughing so hard. Ranger6 RO - Stage 1 2009 FB3G Challenge
  10. OK - Just the other day a group of scientists at Lawrence Livermore Lab discovered that Electrons Have Mass ! Hey, I didn't even know they were Catholic.
  11. There is lots more, however: 1. RELIABLE M16, magazines, ammo. (look like everyone else) 2. Good fitting boots, & socks (several pairs - change when wet!) 3. Grenades (smoke, frag, concussion) 4. Radio & batteries (you can get just about anything via radio - arty, air, gunships, ammo, food, medivac. You name it.) 5. 12. Detergent Oil (In simple terms) Virtually all modern multi-weight oils are detergent oils. Detergent oil, cleans the soot of the internal engine parts and suspends the soot particles in the oil. The particles are too small to be trapped by the oil filter and stay in the oil until you change it. These particles are what makes the oil turn darker. These tiny particles do not harm your engine. When the oil becomes saturated with soot particles and is unable to suspend any more, the particles remain on the engine parts. Fortunately, with the current oil change intervals the oil is changed long before the oil is saturated. Non-detergent oil, such as SAE 30, is not used in modern passenger vehicle engines. It is still used in some gasoline engines such as lawnmowers. Jim Roberts, P.E. Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corp. PS - If you are really interested some friends and I have a (governmental) patent on nuclear grade oil. I get some of it free as part of my payment. It works great on firearms. PM me and I can send you a sample. It is much like synthetic (Mobil 1, Castrol CTX, etc.) but will not break down to "goo" in high radiation fields. Also, never buy "additives" to put into your car. They're all hype.
  13. In Idaho they take Jury Duty rather serious. So far I am 3 ro 3 over the past 8 years. (If you serve you get a bye for the next 24 months. During one of the trials the judge called a recess, instructed the jury to stand fast, and had a young lady brought in by the balliff. He allowed her to provide excuses as to why she did not report for jury duty. (She had quite a few.) Afterwards, the judge said, "Thank you. $300.00 fine and three days in jail." The balliff took her away in cuffs. All twelve of us had that "Good thing we showed up" look on our faces when we went back to the jury room.
  14. For our 30th anniversary I took the wife to Europe. On our 40th I may go back and get her. (Just kiding - - Go someplace you can look up and see the stars.) Rgr-6
  15. What's the difference for the Federal XM193C ammo? We have some locally for ~ $ 400 per 1000 rds. Jim R.
  16. Troy is correct. This would have "saved" at least two shooters at USPSA Multigun Nationals over the years (1 at Albany, OR and another at Las Vegas, NV). As an RO in both instances I had to stop the shooter when they fired a round during movement. Both were DQ'd from the match. The rounds both went though a wall/barrier to their front and did not leave the range. One shooter stated that he was trying to activate the (AR-15) magazine release, but missed. Yes, most shooters do not engage the safety during movement. It still is a good idea. I love multigun shooting and believe it exceptionally challanging. Safety is paramount in that and the other shooting sport formats. Jim Roberts RO
  17. I use an old claymore bag. Once you fire off the claymore & throw away the wire, the bag will hold 10 thirty round magazines perfectly. (Rather heavy if they are all loaded, though.)
  18. 1967 GTO, bought new ($2400), and took to 1st duty assignment in Germany. Autobahn speeds > 140mph. Liked gas, but it was 25 cents/gallon then. Sold it (regrets) when I went on the 1st tour to Vietnam.
  19. Thanks to all who helped put on the match. It was a challenge for all the shooters. (Shooting swinging targets with nothing showing but an A-B zone while going through the "house" is just wild.) The long range rifle targets were definitely tough. Weather was great. Again thanks to all the shooters and those who helped put on the match. JR
  20. It seems that the real problem with Daylight Savings Time is that you get an extra hour of sunlight every day and that can make your drapes fade!
