Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. It's a glock with a Lone wolf/storm lake barrel, however I had the same results with my 23 with the stock barrel. The extractor seems flush with the slide. Also it only happens with one powder so far.
  2. It has to do with burn rate because 231 is faster then unique, but I should be able to make Unique hit where I am with out sacrificing much power. That's my hope any way. I just made up a batch of Unique with a 1.135" OAL. I will probably make some that just fit in the magazine later this week. If COAL doesn't fix it, I am going to have to start playing around with weight. However, it makes me feel much better that I am not the only one to have them shooting off the side. Up and down I was prepared for, but laterally and consistently I was having trouble blaming the bullets for.
  3. At first I thought it was me, I had some bizarre flinch that was extremely repeatable. Infact several times I considered moving the sights because I could hit the same spot. So last night I was loading some gold dots I picked up, .40sw 180gr. I did 10x 5.3gr of W231, 10x 5.7gr of W231 and 10x 6.0 grains of Unique. I set the dies up and did all of the rounds at once, so they are a like. 1.125" COAL, Crimp 0.419". I fired off the W231 rounds first, and they all hit just above and center of POI. The Unique rounds like all of my other Unique rounds hit low and to the left. I bought 8 pounds of unique to work out my flinch, but it may not be my flinch. Anyone have a similar experience? I am going to try some Different COALs, but my cast bullets don't feed as well at 1.135" as they do at 1.125".
  4. I am in the same boat, it's really up to what my local guy has. I am thinking about one of the Vihts. By my manual I would like to try 3N37, N350, or Silhouette. I don't have info on tite group.
  5. It is supported, and looks very similar to the newer glock barrels. I don't know the dims on the lonewolf, but most of my 8k of brass came from our SO's qualifying and stock glocks.
  6. I have shot a few thousand glock reloads and I have 8k of brass from glocks, with out any bulges. I'd say the easy answer to the problem is a new barrel. I thought I read somewhere that glock has some newer barrels that support the case more then the older. However, I bypassed the problem completely and put in a lonewolf barrel. Am I lucky or missing something?
  7. My loads seem to feel more consistant when loading at 1.130".
  8. I had good luck with w231 and ok results with unique using 170 grain precisions.
  9. My higher load Unique rounds feel softer than my heavy w231 load. I didn't spend as much time developing load with unique, so I don't know if it gets worse. I think Unique can do exactly what you need and if you use enough of it the smoke should be minimal.
  10. I used a lot of 231 with precision 170's. Smoke was never really a problem once I got my 231 load hot enough. All of my light loads smoked alot, and I tried 231, Unique and AA#2. The Unique cleaned up a bit as I got the load up. I was looking over the IPDA load list and there is someone on the list using precision 180's and 231. He is using 5.1 grains and they assume he is shooting greater than a 175 pf.
  11. I shot 2500 of the 170 grains and I liked them. I started casting though after the recent increase in lead prices. Loads I liked in 170 were, 5.3grains of W231 at 1.130" with CCI500 primer 3.9grains of Unique at 1.130" with CCI550 primers 3.9grains of AA#2 at 1.135 with CCI550 primers The w231 load was my powerful one, the other two were fun plinkers.
  12. I forgot to mention, I would like to make major power with these. I need to build a load that should reach 1000fps.
  13. I have started casting bullets (from wheel weights). I expect my .40 to come out around 180 grains, but my manual only has jacket data. I will probably work up from 10% under max and play around with some of the light loads from my 170gr moly bullets. However, anyone have any pet loads for 180 grain cast boolits? Preferably using Unique or 231 or suggesting another powder?
  14. I have 6k worth of nickel speer to work through before I get back to them. But I'll take a close look when I do. Serria shows for a 180 gr JHP 5.3 max and for a 165gr jhp 5.7 max. I am at the max for 180 and under on a 165. It doesn't cover 170 moly though. In fact, I have not been able to find much on 170 grain bullets, which is why I wanted to post what I have used.
  15. I am shooting 170gr precision bullets. I voted 165 since it's close.
