  1. I had a Kimber slide a few years ago that I replaced the standard sights with tritium. With slide clamped in vise with thin cardboard to protect finish, I proceeded to destroy my brass punch trying to drift the rear sight (yes, I loosened the set screw). I then thought since I'm replacing the sights anyway, I'll use a steel punch and bigger hammer (bigger hammer is always recomended). I beat the crap out of the sight, it didn't budge and the rear sight was now a piece of crap. This might sound crazy, but it worked. I placed a common ice cube on top of the rear sight and let it set for several minutes until it was almost melted away. The sight tapped right out of the dovetail with very little effort. The new sights went on without issue You may or may not find this useful, I just thought it was pretty cool.
  2. Actually, the barrel is free-floated. The handguard is mounted to the cocking tube wich rides above the barrel. The front sight assembly is mounted to the barrel. The barrel has absolutely nothing touching it from the receiver forward. The system is roller locking, recoil operated. There is no gas system whatsoever, DI or piston. I had Greek SAR8 imported by Springfield which was HK licensed gun. It was capable of MOA with good ammo. A real 91 is definately a steal at that price. If you reload you might want to invest in a port buffer as these things are hell on brass. I forgot to add that I think this platform would make an excelant precision rifle; however if this would primarily be used for three gun, I would choose the AR platform simply for the ergonomics. I have used MP5 subgun at work which is set up the same as the G3/ HK91 only in pistol caliber obviously. I'll take my M4/ AR15 type weapon over this any day, faster reloads, better trigger , better sights.

  4. I have Wilson/Nowlin cut on STI frame. I have Kart easy fit barrel installed, I was thinking of having Schuemann bull barrel installed. Can the frame be altered to Clark/Para cut?
  5. I really don't get the whole gender issue that comes up when discussing service type handguns or why there is such a thing as "top lady shooter" and such, other than there are usually more male shooters. Guys we ain't talkin .454 Casull here. I wouldn't tell her any different than if you were choosing a gun for yourself.
  6. Thanks all for the advice, got my m2 in about a week. I added the Nordic tube and clamp, seems to be very high quality. I did however add some electrical tape to the inside of clamp to prevent finish wear.
  7. I just took a couple thou. off the top of the wings. I initially cut the front of the tubes down a bit as my feed ramp protruded into the magwell a bit; however I have since removed material from the bottom of the ramp to make it flush when the barrel is linked down. I was thinking maybe with the front of the tube cut down the shorter rounds may be creeping forward a bit and forced out of the lips as the slide comes back as the rounds usually end up nose up laying vertically on the ramp or caught between breech face and barrel hood like a stove pipe (loaded round). I looked at your mags on Shooters Connection website, they say to call for availability. Do you sell these direct ? Will you tune tubes if I send them to you, or do you only sell complete mags ?
  8. This is for HSMITH, I have 40 STI home build runs flawless with long loads (1.185); however factory length ammo will somtimes FTF on the last couple or last round in mag. I have posted here before, you advised to get tuned mags. Bottom line will tuned mags allow me to run factory length ammo? I will gladly spend the money if this wiill cure the problem. I just dont understand what the problem is . I am running Grams spring and follower with Dawson base on 4 mags and Grams base on another. Feed lips are in spec and I can get 20 in tube but I prefer 19 for easier reload. I polished inside of tube and trimmed top to prevent slide and feed ramp contact.
  9. Thanks for the advice. I used to have pre-ban HK Benneli M1 Tactical, 7 in the tube and one on the carrier. The guy at the shop told me that he could modify the M2 to work the same way by filling a grove on the bottom of the bolt; however I probably won't need this with the 8 round tube.
  10. I just ordered an M2 field 21" from a dealer here in southern IL. Anyone know how long I can expect to wait for this configuration? I plan to add Nordic Componants +5 for limited. Should I have the groove on underside of bolt filled for ghost load or just leave it alone?
  11. Is the ramp extended back further than the frame, at any time ? The extractor is not coming into play, it seems to be a bolt over base type failure with the slide moving over the top of the round. It is possible that the case head may be coming into contact with the breach face at the very bottom, but the round is not making it up to the extractor. Initially the ramp was extended approx. 3/16 or so back further than the frame. As I stated , I had to cut down the front of the mags. The first time I tested the gun, I only cut one mag. By mistake I grabbed one of the uncut mags and it was forcefully ejected from the gun as the bottom of the ramp contacted the mag as the barrel unlocked. The modified tube ran just fine with 100 rnds of Win wht. box 165 gr. first time out. My most recent mod. was to remove material from the bottom of the ramp to be nearly flush with the frame with the barrel linked down. This of course reduced the surface area of the ramp for the bullet to contact should it nosedive; however I don't appear to be having that problem. I read a post by Benny Hill in which he stated that if the gun was right it would run on factory length ammo.
  12. I spoke with Beven Grams about this a couple of months ago, he seemed to think it may be slow mag or the gun is shortstroking. It does not appear that the gun is shortstroking, and I find it odd that all of my mags would have the problem with different combinations of spring and follower. It seems as if the round is being pushed up and out of the tube by the bottom the ramp as the barrel unlocks. There is usually a hard impression in the nose of the bullet and the round will jam nose up against the top of the chamber or be caught between the hood and breachface like a stovepipe.
  13. This is my first post on this or any forum. I have a limited gun I recently built myself using STI slide and frame and a Kart easy-fit barrel. This is my first ground up build although I have been shooting and tinkering with single stack 1911's and Para doublestacks (.45) for quite some time. It always seems that I've had to work on most of my 1911's to make them run. I usually shoot in Limited Ten with my duty gun (Springfield TRP .45) but I wanted a .40 to play in Limited. It is STI long wide frame and unique slide with Kart easy-fit bushing barrel in .40. I'm using STI tubes with Gramms guts in three of my mags and DP followers with IMSI springs in two others. Tubes appear to be in spec. I have my slide stop and followers set up to not lock back the slide. The problem I am having is intermittant failures to feed usually on the last or next to last round in the mag. Ammo has been all factory length (Win. white box 180 and 165, Speer Gold Dot 180's, and S&B 180's). The failure occurs with all the mags. The round usually ends up with the bullet nose on on the top of the chamber with the cartrige laying vertically on the feed ramp. Most recently I had a stovepipe with a loaded round (last round in mag). Obviously the problem occurs as the pressure from the mag spring decreases (the springs are new). It appears that the rounds anre making contact with the bottom of the feed ramp before the malfuntion occurs as there is an impression on the nose of the bullet. Also if I do a press check with one or two rounds remaining I can see the round beneath being pushed into the bottom of the ramp. I ran the gun a few times with the bottom of the ramp protruding into the magwell so much so that I had to remove material from the front of the mag tube to prevent contact with the ramp. I recently removed material from the bottom of the ramp to make it even with the mag well when the barrel is linked down; however the problem remains. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
