  1. And I would like to point out that the magazine type chamber flag can be inserted with a round in the chamber. ( Lock the bolt back, drop.a round in and put the mag block in) Do what you want to do, but you are going to be disappointed when your high dollar mag block is not allowed, been there done that!
  2. My bet is you are lifting your eyes/head to see where the shot is going. This unconscious lift will cause the shot to go high. Really concentrate on follow through and reacquire the sights after every shot and see what happens. This is the most common cause of shooting high on steel, after all it's fun to watch the steel fall. By lifting your head your eyes say.... Hey recenter that sight and the muzzle comes up and we don't even know we are.
  3. IPSC rules state that some part of the chamber flag extend INTO the chamber. They have never allowed me to run a magazine block/safety in IPSC rifle.
  4. So you have been trained to click on "functional idiots" on YouTube???? Where oh where does one get such great training???
  5. Check into Shield sights out of England. They have everything your looking for and they are tough!!!
  6. Only if he tells you how to tie off and trains you to on how to tie a figure 8 knot! Remember never have the running end on the gate side of your carabineer or it will be "3 tequila floor"!
  7. Hey the Dodge ain't that old..... Now the driver, well I'll leave it there. Advice, beer and tailgates are almost synonymous with critique, which falls closer to critical thinking... Untill the beer kicks in As for the rest, yes! and a great way to get better and better. A couple of training classes/sessions a year followed by dedicated practice of what was learned in training. To bring this around, I have interacted with a talented shooter now for about 4 years. He "trains" at least 2 times a month, and yet he does the same stuff wrong time after time. I asked him what kind of training he has got, and he goes into great detail about how much dry fire he does and how many rounds he has fired to date. He has stages set up in his garage he changes around for dry fire.... Man I'm training real hard I just can't seem to get better! I told him he is training himself bad habits, that he is ingraining sooo much it's going to be hard to change. I told him to go get some real training and he did. When he got done, he decided that that stuff wouldn't work for him, because he came back and "trained" the same way he always has..... He never PRACTICED what he was trained to do!
  8. Training: the action of teaching a person or animal a particular skill or type of behavior. For those of you who train instead of practice....... I'm training cords on my Guitar. My Lawyer trains law. I'm training my speech for tomorrow. My child trains his ABC's I'm training my writing. The clown is training his juggling. I'm training my scales on the violin. I'm training my comedy act. But take heart, it is very hard to get charged with Medical "Maltraining", and it is very hard to find a good Horse practicer.
  9. Who is training you on what you need to work on?
  10. Yes, but are you training or practicing at the range?
  11. Marks on the neck are from extraction, going past locking lug cuts. Gas tube should be in this range as pictured DPMS AR-10
  12. Ahhh, well two things then. Wrong gas tube IE. full length tube on a mid length barrel. Mid length on a carbine length barrel, etc. Wrong pattern bolt to extension. IE. DPMS/SR-25 style bolt and an Armalite style barrel extension or Vise versa.
  13. You can't let the bolt go forward "real easy". The extractor, which is under spring tension, has to slip over the rim of the cartridge. This takes a bit of force like the bolt closing under full spring force or hitting the forward assist. You can't gently lower the bolt on an AR-10!
  14. I still like the J.P. trigger the best. It might not be the lightest although at 2-2 1/2# it's plenty light. It might not be the flashiest flat faced TiN coated trigger out there, but it is a very simple trigger. There are no small parts or springs to break or wear out. The whole thing is hardened and the springs seldom wear out. For example I have one of the older style J.P. that you had to fit. It breaks at 2#, has never malfunctioned or doubled, it is in my practice rifle that is on it's 5th barrel and it just keeps on working. So figure it has at least 50,000 cycles on it not including a bit of dry fire, I'd say best bang for the $$$
  15. I tried a 1301 for a while, I helped in modifying the 1301 that became the comp version that was finally produced by Beretta, I never could warm up to it that much, but it is a good gun. I prefer the M2 by a fair margin, personal preference I guess. I do know that my original M1 has over 375,000 rounds on it and it still works. Time will tell on the 1301. As for 3-gun, here is a different take. Prize tables have been dwindling. COVID stopped traveling and ammo skyrocketed. When the big money/prize structure started dropping so did interest. As for club matches, that is where folks went to practice for big matches, which has large prize tables. When all that dropped, attendance dropped locally as well. All I can say is limited is about dead, I miss it so!
  16. Couple things here, the M1 super 90 was the first good choice not the M2. As things stand today the M2 is still the gun all others aspire to be, although the 1301 is showing the most promise of being it's equal. Next this is supposed to be a thread about how everybody hates shotguns, so enough of this "fanboy love" for the "gauge" and back to discussing the demise of 3-Gun.
  17. The best place to train new equipment, uh I mean practice new muzzle brakes.... Darn it train my practice.
  18. Well, you aren't going to hurt it by putting in ONE shell and seeing if it will lock back after shooting 1 shell. There are several causes of this, but I need to first see if it will lock open after firing. If you are hesitant to do that, I would find a good gunsmith in your area to have it looked at. Things that can be wrong, interceptor latch bent, interceptor latch pin broken, interceptor latch removed to utilize an 870 lifter to ease loading, interceptor latch out of time. Trigger mechanism too dirty to interface with interceptor latch. Improperly assembled. Etc. Does it have an EZ LOADER installed?
  19. And as pertinent as any "what's the best and why" thread as there ever was! So which are you Tiger? When you go to the range are you there to train or practice, assuming your not testing the latest, best socks ?
  20. Fair enough! It sounds like you had a good base to start from. I guess the point I was trying to make is that way too many folks buy the "best" from internet lists and then are disappointed when it doesn't work for them. I have tried, the whole time I have been in this game, to think about the new shooters and what influence "we" have on them, and I feel that "what is the best" threads do a tremendous disservice to them.
  21. Why did you buy the SJC in the first place? Not being argumentative, nor poking you for it, but why did you get an SJC.
  22. As a matter of question, I have met quite a few shooters that spend a couple days a week training. Now I shoot a lot, and I practice a bunch. I also train a bit, but I'm the one doing the training and the folks I am training are trainees. Hopefully, after I train them they practice what I trained them to do, but I am wondering do you train or do you practice? Do you train a thousand rounds a week or do you practice with a thousand rounds a week for example. If you are training all the time when do you find time to practice? So which is best, training or practice?
  23. Yep Rose action sports, or Hayes Custom Gunsmithing. Both are great!
  24. Well..."The play around with it" part was supposed to cover the test different things, but I can see that that was lost, so I will expound on it for you. Get behind your rifle, shoot it, (this is the expanded play around with it part), see what the perceived short commings are, does it dip when the bolt closes, does it consistently recoil in a specific direction, does it bounce around in a circle, is that circle erratic. Next when you run into folks that have a better set up ask to try their rifle, if it is a lot better than yours note their set up. The trick here is you have to KNOW what your rifle does for the comparison. Once you narrow to that down start getting that stuff. Now really test the stuff that seems to work for you. Does this comp chang point of impact if one side of the comp is within an inch or two of a hard surface... You would be surprised at how many do to the tune of 3-6 MOA. Does the comp work off my support side or if the rifle is horizontal. If I shoot it really close to the ground does it throw up too much junk, does it throw up too much junk on its side close to the ground. If I were to shoot this under a dirty old car would it sandblast all the crap of the underside. Are all these things acceptable for the performance given. BUT you have narrowed the field down immensely by trying other folks set up and kind of have an idea of what will work for you. Now if you have no friends but you know what aspects of you rifle need changing you at least have a place to start. Once you have played around with it you will know what works for you, and I would stay in that window instead of buying anything of what's the best lists, I would use that $$ for more ammo to run through my best. Great quick story. Had an up and coming shooter tell me that the J.P. tank brake was the worst thing in the world. Rifle jumps up and down even on a bipod, is blasty and throws up way too much dirt. I asked him why he bought it and he said all the open guys said it was the very best comp for open, so he had to have it. I told him I would be happy to shoot it and see what it was doing. He brought the rifle over and a bunch of ammo. I took it out of the case and in one look knew why it wasn't working for him, it was installed 180° off. He was quite avid about social media and had written a rather scathing review of the comp and what a crap heap it was already. Yes the tank brake is directional once installed correctly and clocked for his shooting style he was ecstatic, but that real bad review is still out there. So what is the best?
