  1. My accuracy load is 4.1 grains WST behind a 200grain swc for the long line and 4.0 grains WST behind a 185 grain swc for the short line.
  2. I have 2 SDBs, a 550, and a 650. The finest accessory you can get is a very sturdy and stable bench to mount them on. A lot of issues folks have can be traced to an inadequate bench. No wiggle, no shale, no flex, no b.s.
  3. I've had good luck ordering directly from Starlink. I've quit buying from independent internet vendors. They have a tendency to have 20% to 30% of the cases be 38spl.
  4. Asking for load data on an internet site is not a good way to go (IMHO). I would recommend you go to several powder manufacturers’ web sites for data. I have developed a couple loads that work well in my DPMS LR-260, but wouldn’t be comfortable giving the particulars out. I will say that Varget has been the top performer for me.
  5. What parts of an AR15 should be lubed with Slide Glide and which viscosity to use? I've used it for years on my 1911s and have all three types. I've searche this site and found hundreds of postings on using it for hand guns, but not ARs. Thanks for your input. R.B.
  6. I have 2 SDBs and a 550. The SDBs are set up one for large primer and and one for small primer. As they currently set one is for 45ACP and the other is for 357MAG. The 550 is my rifle cartridge loading machine. It is currently in 223 Remington mode. I can easily recommend you get the SDB.
  7. I wish there were more videos of SDB operations. I sometimes get lost trying to figure things out by the instruction manual. I bought the Dillon video, but it doesn't cover things like cleaning and lubeing. I would also like to see how to change calibers by changing the toolhead. The Dillon video shows how to change the dies, but not the toolhead. Another one would be a movie of the press in operation to show the relationship of the varioue linkages to the powder dispensing system. The videos on youtube focus on inserting brass and kind of show inserting the bullets. Thanks to Brian for this site. It has been very helpful.
  8. I have an older SDB that I use for 45ACP. I can't use the strong mount because of physical problems. After building a bench with an 8" thick top I didn't want to whack a big chunk out of it. They found an older model SDB and are taking the needed parts off it to make my setup work. Thanks for the encouragement.
  9. The new SDB spent primer catch system will not allow attaching the machine to a bench that is more than 3" thick. Tech support is supposed to be finding an older style set up for me but it's been 5 days and I haven't heard a thing. I may have to return it and try another brand of progressive loader.
  10. Leading is not simply a function of bullet velocity. If the bullet is undersized for your barrel it can "skid" as it travels down the barrel and leave lead as it bounces around. This is why people who cast their own bullets slug their barrels to determine what size to form the bullets to.
  11. The first thing to do is to get at least 3 reloading manuals and read them to learn the proper procedures for reloading. I can highly recommend the ABCs of Reloading as the first one to get.
