  1. Back when I joined USPSA or maybe it when I first got NROI certified they included a flier for these guys: http://www.naso.org/benefits/insurance.htm Any opinions from those that know a lot more about liability and insurance than I do?
  2. The rumor going around in Vegas was that it would be Vegas again for both handgun and multi-gun with handgun shifting to a bit cooler time frame. The other rumor was that there was a multi-year contract in the works. Take that for what it is worth, of course.
  3. They say the way to make a small fortune in food service is to start with a large fortune...they are right.
  4. The Idaho Sport Shooters Alliance helped write a bill and successfully lobbied the Idaho legislature this year to pass a law which protects ranges and match staff from liability suits. http://www.idahossa.org/ for more info. The core of that group are USPSA shooters and darn nice folks. I am sure they wouldn't mind if you copied their bill and got it going in other state legislatures as well. Be very careful when doing medical stuff in the field. Know that state's "Good Samaritan" law (if there is one) and the extent to which you are protected. Just because your medical kit has Celox, sutures, scalpels, I.V. kits and whatnot and there is a Good Sam law in place doesn't necessarily mean you get to perform field surgery. And remember that in most states Doctors and Nurses are not licensed to work in the pre-hospital environment beyond simple first aid stuff. In some states even EMTs & Paramedics can't perform above the BLS (Basic Life Support) level unless they are on duty (for which purpose many agencies basically tell their staff they are always on duty). Also keep in mind that your first aid kit and skills are far more likely to be called upon for non-gun related issues. Cuts, scrapes, heart attacks, heat stroke, etc. are wayyyy more common on a shooting range than GSWs. If you don't have First Aid and CPR cards, get them and keep them current. Each class is only a couple hours every few years...well worth the time. Your local Red Cross or Fire/EMS unit can point you in the right direction.
  5. Verizon sucks. To be honest, they all suck. The mega-corps have entirely forgotten what customer service is and why it is important.
  6. +1 for Line-X. I have used mine fairly hard (hauling rock, concrete block, poppers, etc.) and after a trip through the car wash it looks pretty much like the day they sprayed it in almost five years ago.
  7. I was taught by a career navy man (Retired) that it is considered a sin to wash one's coffee cup. This was also rumored to cause hair loss, impotence and so on. I do however take care to not leave coffee sitting in it overnight and generally give it a quick rinse at the end of the coffee drinking for the day. Thus far, I have never found a snake in my coffee cup so the Duke must have been correct.
  8. Thanks for asking Chris! Make all round count limitations in shotgun "at the start" only. It is very hard to enforce the current limits, especially in Open, when you have no real notion how many rounds just made it in with that speed loader. Since shotguns are incrementally loaded and some of the speedy guys in Tactical can be rough to count if you can't see what they are doing. Maybe put a mag tube max length on non-Open shotguns to control capacity that way. And if folks want to start running short rounds to get that extra shot, so be it. As the rule stands it is impossible to enforce equitably. I thought a lot about this while running folks at Vegas and I even tried to keep track but quickly found it was very difficult to do.
  9. Sorry to hear that Boz. Prayers headed to your family.
  10. I think that's the same time as the Canadian Nationals in Vancouver BC. Oh well, only so many Summer weekends to go around so there are bound to be conflicts. Sigh.
  11. Try a search. There are at least two other threads here about that.
  12. Also do a bit of learning about the local taxes that will be applied to your room cost. A lot of times those $50/night rooms run another $20 or more in taxes and fees. I learned the hard way once that the $12 a day "resort fee" was charged to me because I used my room key to cut through the pool area to get to the coffee shop/bar rather than walk an extra 100 yards. I never so much as dipped a toe in the pool or got a massage or used the sauna but I couldn't prove it so ate an extra $48. Big cities tend to finance big projects on these taxes (Seattle got SafeCo and Seahawks stadiums built on a special room tax) and you can easily turn a $100/night room in Seattle (if you can find one) into a $150/night room just in taxes. I've had bad luck in Motel 6 and Super 8 with finding things in the room I wish I hadn't found (bongs, crack pipes, bags of dope, etc.) so I tend to avoid those. I like Holiday Inn Express at the moment although their breakfasts are terrible.
  13. The AMU guys had 40 round Gremlin mags. They were god awful long but they had them. Looked to be standard mags with very long aluminum extensions (which were polished BRIGHT). Watching them shoot their cadence seemed to be right with the .223 shooters.
  14. The AMU guys were running their new cartridge/rifles at the USPSA MG in Las Vegas and did very well with them. Although those bright shiny mag extensions weren't real...uh..."tactical". Although I could have sworn they told me that what they were running was the Grendel necked out to .30. Whatever, they had no problems with the long range La Rue's and they rolled the R&R Flashers on my stage at 75 yards REALLY well.
  15. My understanding was that, at least for prize table, the two Limited shooters were moved into Tactical.
  16. What a bunch of great stages! I worked instead of shooting and after I saw the match on the ground I really wished I was shooting it! Thanks to Sin City Shooters for the stage 10 design. It was challenging to get to run well but the shooters sure had fun with it. Also thanks to my crew: Bob, John & Scott. Great working with you!
  17. Yeah, Chuck...but you'll feel 50 real fast. Happy B-day Chris!
  18. You realize that if you gear up like this your next assignment will be somewhere that snow hasn't fallen in 100 years...right?
  19. Yeah, I had need for the horsepower and wide mower deck so went with the 540. The snow blade was almost an afterthought...which I was real happy I went for.
  20. I have a JD 540 with a 4' blade and it will do just fine PROVIDED that the snow is no deeper than the blade itself (say 14"). Problem I ran into last Winter was a place to put all the damn white stuff. I plow about 150 feet of packed gravel driveway with it and it does just fine but some days I had to be out there in the early AM and twice in the evening (right after I got home and again before bed) to stay far enough ahead of it. I am seriously considering the snow blower for it. Problem with ANY blade type device is you can't really pile the snow up all that high and may quickly run out of places to put it. I finally resorted to pushing it across the street into the city park. The state plows kind of helped a bit when it piled up too high and the local city plow helped me out a couple times by pushing one of my huge piles into the ditch for me. With a snow blower you can go a lot higher even if it is a bit slower overall. You will need chains for the tires. I don't need wheel weights as my natural body build provides plenty of that on my machine but for most folks wheel weights and maybe other weights on the rear of the tractor might be necessary. Also consider some insulated coveralls, glove heaters, heated socks, etc. The blade on the FJ is a wayyyyy better deal.
  21. We can't control the weather and can't continually reshoot people because conditions changed. You roll your dice and take your chances. Changing condition affect just about every sport you can think of done outside and a whole lot of them done inside.
  22. I installed all my own equipment. DTV dude has never been here.
  23. Rather than duplicate the other posts how about I close this one and we use the links already provided. Thanks!
