I attended the Plastic Fantastic last year and thought it was a great match. I am sure that for the wonderful people that put this match on it was less than they had hoped for but hope that they will give it another shot. Several of us that attended the match have been talking it up at the local club matches. If the match does reappear this year I think the attendance will be much stronger unless scheduled against another major match. Has anyone heard of any plans for this match?

Is anybody CURRENTLY using bear creek bullets?
jspruance replied to jimmy1's topic in 10mm/40 Caliber
Last week I called Bear Creek Bullets and talked to a guy named Steve. He told me he had just processed a batch of bullets. I ordered 2K 40 cal. 180 gr. and 1K 147 gr. 9mm bullets. Four days later the package arrived by US post office flat rate package. I love those folks they beat the heck out of UPS, FedEx and everybody else. Anyway the 180's look identical to the Master Blaster. I can't say about the 147's because I never ordered them from MB. Haven't shot any yet because I am practicing open for the Area 8. My first experience with Bear Creek has been a good one. They will get more of my business. Bear Creek Supply (209) 874-4322. Nice people. JFS -
Does anyone know where you can pick up Solo 1000 in the Cincinnati, Oh. area? Thanks JFS

Sorry I forgot to mention. G34 and G17 both tumble? Thanks, JFS

I had some 147 gr moly bullets loaded ahead of TG and they tumbled like crazy. Anyone else had a similar expierence? JFS

It's hard to believe any carrier can claim they can't deliver your package because they can't find your house. I have a Tom Tom 1 GPS that will find and draw a map to any business or residence in the US if I just type in the address.

I order things from the forums and different suppliers from on line. I really hate to have anything sent to me via UPS especially. UPS regular ground takes about 8 total days from the west coast to the east coast. I am currently waiting on an order from Cal. sent on Monday that according to their tracking will not arrive before this Monday. (sometimes you just don't get it straight how you want your merch. sent) Items sent USPS Priority mail will generally reach me from that destination in two to three business days. Regular first class mail will arrive in three to five days. Both at less cost than than UPS regular ground service. Once in a while I find a supplier who refuses to use anyone but UPS. At that time I spend my money elsewhere. I hope a rant is permitted in the "What I hate topic" JFS

Any real empirical data on moly bullets and smoke.
jspruance replied to jspruance's topic in 10mm/40 Caliber
Actually that is exactly what I was thinking of. Many years ago there was a lot more use of lead bullets for a lot of shooting activities and I can remember recommendations from cast bullet companies about using gas checks on lead bullets to cut down on smoke and to be able to boost velocities of the lead projectiles especially in rifle bullets. I was hoping that there were maybe some old charts from bullet or powder companies that would recommend powder combinations. But alas I suspect that we will continue as we have in the past with each of us experimemnting and coming up with our own best load. Thanks for the input. -
Since some of us have decided to opt for the less expensive moly bullets compared to the jacketed I was wondering if there is any scientific data to direct us to the powder that will produce the least amount of smoke and still provide us with all of the attributes that we require as competitors. I know from extensive use of the moly bullets in the production division that many powders are acceptable as long as we are are running minor PF loads. I have found TG, HS6, and Univ. Clays to name a few. But I have also found that quality of air movement and proximity of the sun have a major influence even at the minor PF catagory. I also noticed a huge difference when I bumped the PF up to major. I have yet to find a powder that is pleasant and even acceptable to shoot under all conditions. I was hoping that somewhere there is a good explanation of what should make a good match of powder and moly /poly bullets at major velocities. Is there a big difference between single and double base powders ( if that is the correct term ). If we have to rely only on each others experience only, perhaps some kind of explanation of the shooting conditions of that particular day would help. My worst case days have always been dead calm facing the low morning or evening sun. I feel sure that there is no magic bullet that would cover all situations but it would sure be nice to reach a happy medium. Thanks for any help. JFS BTW lead prices are coming down, I doubt bullet prices will.

This match had a lot of people scrambling looking for extra ammo. I think the min. round count was about 175 and there was a thirty round steel stage that gobbled up a lot of extra ammo. A fun match and a good one to finish up the year. Thanks to all of the people that made the Circleville matches great this year. JFS

Maybe some good news coming. I just read an article in Bloomburg that said lead prices are due to plummet from around $3500 a ton in July to about $2122 a metric ton in the fourth quarter of this year. And an average price of $1792 a ton in 2008. If this is true I hope the manufacturers will roll back prices also. JFS

This week I had the opportunity to shoot GM Bob Vogel's G35 topped with Sevigny F.O. sights. I fell in love with them. Bob told me where I could order them and I ordered two of the F.O.s from Mike at MLE. I called on Tue morning and talked to Mike. He assured me that he had them in stock and would send them by end of work day USP priority mail. I recieved them in the mail Thursday, plus a free mouse pad, a scratch pad and pen. It is a real pleasure to do business with people like Mike. JFS

What a great match and great and gracious people. Good stages, great props and lots of rounds (210 min) All for $25. Flex took top honors in full size. He promised to let lefty 45 and I carry his bags at the next match. Probably the most fun and relaxed match I have ever participated in. Thanks to all of the staff and support team at Silver Creek. I was going to try 2K of the 9mm bullets. I made at least two calls and got a message to leave a number. I left my home phone number but I have never gotten a call back from them. JFS

I don't want to high jack this thread but it seems like a good place to ask a question relating to Aftec extractors. I have Aftec extractors in both of my SV open guns. I have always shot 38 supercomp and 9 supercomp brass in both guns with little or no problems. Recently I came across a fair amount of WIN 9X23 brass. I began having feeding issues and I believe the 9X23 brass is the problem. I miked the rims and they are slightly bigger than the supercomp brass. The Aftec extractors seem to be too tight on the 9X23 brass during the chambering cycle. I remember that extra springs came with the Aftecs. Are these springs of different strength? I noticed that when slow hand cycling the 9X23 ammo, it has much more resistance going into the chamber than the supercomp ammo. Anyone have any ideas? Sorry if I got off topic.

A friend of my son lives in Australia and is a trap/skeet shooter. He has asked if we would consider buying 20 gauge wads in bulk and sending them to him. I guess the cost is quite high over there for all loading components. We would like to help out a fellow shooter but since we are pistol shooters we are on unfamiliar ground. I checked a couple of local places and it looks like $12.50 to $14.00 a K is the going price. He would like to get 10 to 20 K shipped. Does anyone have any ideas what would be the best way to proceed? How can I get a cost estimate on shipping? And last but not least is there any possibility that this against their laws? Thanks, JFS

Steve, Will your new book be avaliable at the next Circleville match? Thanks, JFS

PB, Congrats on the match and the A card. Well deserved. JFS

PB, You are too young to have a bad memory. You kicked my A$$ last match and now you are making me relive the humiliation that you heaped on me (twice that day). M&P is gone I will probably never own another. I think I am going to quit reading your diary, it wears me out. I think it may actually be giving me burnout. Keep at it. See you Sunday. JFS
