  1. Another happy customer of Jim Joyce Custom. I've got 3 of them so far.
  2. I use a small Badger sand blaster. Works on all sorts of materials.

  4. Rob is most likely correct. I think it was in 1990 I had the Ed Brown weld-on put on and they cut the frame 1/4" before welding it on and then re-drilled the MH hole. Makes for a clean look!!
  5. I believe that is right. My Sentinel is flawless, just runs and runs. Mine is a 45 and I also paid around $1450 including trigger work from Thunder Mountain in Benson AZ. Mine is in .40 and came stock from Shooter's Connection. CMC mags are my preference, but she runs with Wilson, Cobra, Mec-Gar, metalform, etc . Whatever I tried, they worked. I used .45 mags for a few months also. I use the 10mm mags now, but only load out to 1.16. If I were to buy another stock SS, it would be the Sentry. I certainly have been fortunate with mine and because of that would buy another in a heart beat.
  6. 22,000 rnds. The Sentinel is the "old" Sentry I believe. I freshened it up a hair last year with a new hammer/sear/disconnector and a Briley bushing. Short, long, semi wadcutter lead, jacketed, White Box, major minor, etc, etc. It runs them all at 100%. Never, ever had any sort of problems. I run a ISMI 12.5# recoil and a 17# main spring. Cannot say enough good about it. I think I paid $1,438.

  8. Jim Joyce Custom made this one from aluminum...
  9. http://www.jimjoycecustom.com/default.html This particular one was a Wilson paddle that has been cut down significantly since this photo was taken. A cut down (smaller length)aluminum one is being made by Jim Joyce at his shop. It has this shape and look, but smaller in length. Contact him as he may have pics already. My other 1911 now has one of his mag buttons, but is in his shop for other work so I can't get a photo of it. Paul
  10. 1,000 rds and 4 matches and it's running at 100%. Almost ready to have it finished.
  11. Thank you Ken. You are a class act! I tried to polish the heck out of the Ti plunger so did not feel I should bother you with what might be a petty issue. Plus, maybe it was the spring as Bart said. Regardless, you have my business for life!!!! Your shipping speed is amazing. Thanks again.
  12. Got me curious now to put the stock spring back in with the Apex plunger. Makes sense though about the crunch. Felt like a grating, and for me too it was not every single pull of the trigger. And yes, the parts are cheap enough to experiment. It is so awesome now I'm tempted to stop though. Absolutely 100% smooth. The re-set is shorter and distinct.
  13. Bingo! I also had the SSS ti FPS and felt the crunch you wrote of. A real close look under high magnification showed some small lines/scratches. in the finish. I polished the heck out of it but could not make it completely go away. The Apex is SS and really polished well. I polished it even more and then polished their sear too. 100% no crunch. Smooth as silk. I'm sure the lightened spring helps the trigger as well. Absolutely a satisfied customer.
  14. Got my sear from Apex Tactical and the Apex striker block kit and some mag pads from SSS. I had this last order in 2 days! Now I see SSS has both the Apex parts.
  15. Ditto! I polished the heck out of both of them with a small felt wheel and Mother's metal polish and installed them both. Smooth, smooth, smooth. I had just the sear and was impressed using the stock, but altered, striker block. Then a few days later I installed the Apex Ultimate Striker Block and I am still grinning. Do them both!!!!!!! Apex = Quality stuff. Awesome trigger!!!!!
  16. I found this thread and thought I'd add my info as of today. The information learned here thus far has been right on the money! 3.6 gr of Solo-1000 under a BBI 130 gr, loaded to 1.125 OAL was not only flawless in my M&P9L, but soft shooting with very little smoke, and accurate enough offhand at 15yds to make a ragged hole in the target. It averaged 1,004fps for a 130 PF. I did add an Apex sear, a ss full length guide rod and 13# recoil spring, along with Dawson fixed wide notch rear and a .210 tall x .100 wide front sight. 200 flawless rounds later I called it quits for the morning. The BBI 130 gr bullet with Solo-1000 is a perfect combo for my gun. A definite keeper. YRMV, Good shooting to you.
  17. I'm not real sure about the time as I did it over a period of a week or so. Maybe 2-3 hrs total. I'm thinking an hour + for the holster and 15 minutes for each mag pouch. There are 4 single mag pouches and 1 double.
  18. Thanks for the replys. I dislike most T.V programs and it is winter, so I futz with stuff. I still dry fire though. No advantage at all. More like painting or some other busy work/hobby where you sit and fool around with stuff on a rainy day.
  19. I've seen it on the grips, but not the holsters and mag pouches. I decided to do something different.
  20. That is it Terry. The Badger 260. Best price I've seen. I think I got mine for $35.00 and they retail for $59.00 as I recall. For big stuff they are lacking, but for a lot of small stuff they are really handy.
  21. Good looking gun Rob. I got to see the before model and yuk! The thumb guards are awesome! You did not mention that he drove 5 hrs to deliver it AND 2 hrs of that was in a fricken blizzard! Good shooting to you at the Natl's. Paul B.
  22. I currently have two .40 1911s and use McCormick exclusively (10mm ones). I've tried the others and they were fine, but I prefer the Chipsters.
  23. Me too. I did not have one but did have a 1911 bushing wrench (Kimber brand) that is made of some very hard plastic type of stuff. Plastic would be the wrong word, it's hard as heck and solid black. This is the end result utilizing the same set-up as before. I'll score a Glock mag later on and give it a go on the actual mag. Pic will be up soon.
  24. I know what you mean. I've used labels from my label maker, paint, white out, etc, etc. It's been a crappy winter and I got bored. Next up I'll try it on plastic. Wait till you see my stippled holster and mag pouches!!!
  25. Great prices too. Thanks for the web site.
