What caliber?  Short dots and sideways scope mounts are what made 9mm Open guns really viable by not blocking the ejection area.  If you don't like the sideways mount, that leaves short dots.

This.... I ran an open gun in 9 major with an upright cmore for many years.    It could be made to work with careful tuning of ejector and extractor particularly with careful selection of brass headstamp.  However when useful window sized mini red dots became available there was no reason to put a full sized cmore on a open pistol anymore.

I used the romeo3 max for several years and liked it other than having to send a couple of them back to sig for issues for the buttons stopping working or then blinking out under recoil after awhile. I have moved to the FTP alpha and the Holosun 507 comp as my current dots.

  2. They have been allowed at least since 1999 (that's as far back as I go) but I know when I took my cro class in the portion on stage design the instructor discouraged them due to the potential issues and difficulty of ROing them....

I know in the last 10 years they have become far more common.

I have the 2 and 3 port BE comps. I prefer the 3 port. My current setup is a middy with 3 port. My next build will be a full length with BE 3 port.

I'm just an A classified open shooter and prefer the softness of a full length rig.

I can tell you, I had a middy with an Atlas 2 port comp and that thing was harsh to shoot. The BE comps work MUCH better.

Yep middy with 2 barrel ports and a 3 port BE comp is an excellent combination... Particularly if you use something like shooters world major or AA7 that makes enough gas to run it.

Are there any say “already in the popular lexicon” exemptions to trademark law?

    For example:

”I just replaced my formica (see the little “f”?) countertops with Corian counters.”

    (see the upper case C?)

Formica (with a large F) was/is actually a brand name of laminate countertop material.

    Example #2:

”Hey, I’m headed to the concession stand during intermission.  Do you want a coke?”

””Yeah, can you get me a Dr. Pepper?”

Wasn’t it either Guns & Ammo magazine or Handguns magazine which tried to get a trademark on the word “racegun” in the mid-1990’s?

How did that work out for them?

Wasn’t it about 15 years ago that somebody was trying to push their copyright or trademark on the song “Happy Birthday”?

Let me guess…they were really successful with that campaign, and are now diving into their royalty payments like Scrooge McDuck???

If recall correctly it was Springfield Armory who tried that with 'racegun' or it may have been guns and ammo?

  5. A mill makes things much nicer but it you have a decent set of calipers, a sharpie, and a center punch to do the layout work and then check it against your mount before you drill, you can do it pretty easily with a decent drill press (at least to the level of precision required for a red dot frame mount.)

I’ve heard swmp and aa7 are the same but apparently swmp 9major with 115gr even at the same charge has more pressure than aa7. I don’t recall what the program is that measures that but maybe someone can confirm?

Shooters world major varied greatly by lot.  Some lots were faster.  Some slower.   At least one lot was so slow you just about couldn't make major with it in some configurations of gun.

But so long as you could get enough of one lot it wasn't that big if a deal (just work up your load and pay attention to what the brass was telling you.

  7. Yea I got a notice from shooter's connection last summer that they had them in stock. I immediately bought one to match the ones on my open guns. Till that point they had been out of stock for over a year.

  8. I have been through 3 of the Max version of the dot on my open gun so far most of them lasted between 6 and 10k rounds.

The 4th which is on the gun started blinking out sometimes (a symoptom which one of the others had exhibited. Other than having them fail prematurely they were an excellent dot.

I've decided I don't want to have to deal with this anymore so I've just replaced it with a 507 comp to see if I can live with that.

But previously I was willing to live with lack of longevity as the dot worked well for me otherwise.

    Could it be the upper?

Yea that's what I was wondering, if the shank of the barrel is a loose fit in the bore of the upper, the barrel can shift around in the upper regardless of the barrel nut being tight. But there can be other reasons for it.  But if you have tried 3 barrels if it's not the upper I'm not sure what to think.

  10. Depending on your gun some powders work better for some folks than others.... For instance I currently use AA7(and shooters world major when I could get it) Silhouette is second Hs6 I don't particularly care for. Just have to try different things to see what works for you.
