there is a post on pre cast bullett vendors in the same thread some come very recommended...
  2. Almost every gun I have sold i kick myself later on saying why did you do that! that is my 2 cents
  3. take the battiers out rub them on a piece of paper or your blue jeans, reinsert them and try again the battieries they supply seem to get some film on them that causes this. you can also try new batteries too I had the same issue
  4. Does Jim have a web site can't seem to dig it up?
  5. I do have master cast on i can add Penn when i have a chance, thanks for the info
  6. It appears one vendor on the list may be gone Lightining Bulletts I am checking and will modify the list once confirmed?
  7. Attached you will find prices for pre cast bulletts from multiple vendors it may not be all inclusive but it was a start for those of us who must shoot precast or cast our own due to cost I thought this would help... Most of the vendors offer flate rate shipping and or mulit lot discounts that vary. Also the pricing is as accurate as I can make it as of today. I have updated the spread sheet with some other vendors and removed one that was/is defunct I hope this helps.... cast_bullet_prices.htm
  8. Spartans here in Wisconsin i have found are $500.00 on up. The other entry 1911 I have toyed with is the Rock Island tactical Nesard has them for $389.00 the finish isn't as good but hey they shoot...
  9. I would try sizing to .452 and a ligther recoil spring that should help the issue try one then the other. If that still doesn't do it go to Unique it seems to have a little higher pressure to drive the slde harder.
  10. I cast my own Bulletts use Lyman #2 alloy and a meduim lube with Unique or 700x powders the smoke isn't too bad it's cheap shooting. With my son I both hammering away this gets expensive with the component prices rising as they are....I have to save somewhere the bad part is the time involved
  11. For 38's 700-x, unique, 2400 44mag - 4227, unique, 2400 45's 700-x, unique 223- 748 & IMR 4895 270 & 30 cal Imr 4895, 3031, 4064 & accurate 3100 I used to have 4-5 powders for each caliber this got to be too much to keep track of so I have wittled this down the last 3-4 years to these I am thinking of trying Solo or Clays for my 45 but have shyed away as I don't want another powder around until I burn up what I have..... Folks laugh at my 45 loads as old school "why don't you use the newer powders? they shoot well for me so why change although the 45's with unique are a little snappy compared to my 700-x load my son shoots the 700-x doesn't shoot well in my gun..
  12. +2 on the 231. I use it for 9, 40 & 45. I agree it is not the cleanest. I have been told it is tempature sensitive too. I also hear VV320 is cleaner and a great performer. But, this also comes at a higher cost. FWIW, with jacketed bullets (40major) I use Titegroup with very good results. But for lead, moly, and plated I prefer 231 Good luck +3 on the 231, though Clays would work well also. +4 on the W231 Just to throw another opion in the mix i have 2 loads that i use 700x- 4.7 gr 200 gr cast bullett (mild recoil) Unique- 6 gr 200gr cast (is a little snappy but tolerable) I have found W231 to be a little recoil heavy for my taste.....
  13. 700x... You are talking about IMR 700X right? Is it a clean burning powder? I'm looking for something between the Solo 1000 and AA#7 I usually use and 700X seems to fall almost in the middle of those two on the burn rate charts. Any information would be appreciated! IMR 700x is correct seemed pretty clean but I shoot cast bulletts so you get some extra eject because of the bullett lube. If I used jacketed bulletts I doubt I would even clean the gun after a match maybe the bore but thats it. It gives a decent case volume too. Is this load Major not sure as I don't have Chrono and at our local matches we don't check them anyways... My 14 year old son shoots this load and it's similar to clays in a nice soft push for recoil, the load just doesn't work in my gun too bad.
  14. I tried another mixture I found on another Web site no odor and worked pretty well. I did 350 45's this way came out pretty good. plastic icream bucket enough hot water to cover the brass 1/4 cup lemon juice squirt of Dawn dish soap aggitate Brass and solution evry once in a while Let this sit about 1-2 hours depending on the severity of the discloroation sift out the brass rinse and let dry. The brass came out sparkley clean except the primer pockets still had some gunk but what the heck the price is right and best part no smell. I imagine if you let it cook over night it would get really shiny but for my purposes it really did well as I don't have a tumbler. This is very cheap to do.
  15. Well I will vote for Unique and 700x Unique is snappy with 700x being mild push. i just shot my first match my son shot the 700x load and I shot the Unique other than equipment issues with my gun thay both did the job. 700x- 4.7 gr 200gr cast unique- 6gr 200gr cast
  16. Here is a link were you can get it on line. http://www.corrosionx.com/speedx.html
  17. Found a web site for the stuff it's a hi pressure bearing lube for bikes skateboards etc probably would work well give it try and let us know how it works.
  18. Ghost holster carries some trick parts for CZ I assume the gun above is in 9mm to bad it's not in 45acp. How does it shoot?
  19. would 185's be of any advantage in the 45acp?????
  20. THANKS FLEX This is a great help Deadeye
  21. Help; Another newbie question, here is what I have to shoot a 1911 Colt w/adjustable sights, magwell, adjustable trigger and Pachmyar grips. I have 15- 7 round mags but have access to 10 rounders if needed. What class do I shoot in? there seems to be some options. I thought i had this figured out but after reading here the last few days I'm confused. The local matches seem to be IPSC if that helps answer the questions?
  22. FYI; For years Winchester didn't make a Mangum primer if you read on the package it said for standard and magnum ....... I have used Winchester for years because of this it limits my primer inventory. I have used standard winchesters in 300 mag without an issue. For a source try Mid South shooters supply or Natchez Shooter supply.
  23. Poor word choice but I'm sure i will miss plenty looks like a big target but I'm sure with adrenaline etc it gets pretty small.
