    Gun Stores!

I tried to by a Taurus PT1911 through my local gun shop he wants almost $600.00 not including background check fees & taxes he's nuts. I will order it on line and with the tranfer fee save $100.00 I don't begrudge a guy a living just don't expect me to fully subsidize it! When I told him he was out of line he got real defensive funny thing is he is ordering it from the same warehouse I'm getting it from. Too bad for him, then he wonders why he doesn't sell anything? I may go to Sportsman warehouse to get it they had them for $489.00
  2. see attached spread sheet cast_bullet_prices.htm
  3. My doctor told me other than the obvious in not eating while loading is the media/lead dust from the tumbler.
  4. BUMMER But i will say this it was sure fun watching him play the game the right way without theatrics. God Bless BRETT
  5. The LC Match won't be crimped primers the rest will be crimped in...the stuff with the IVI headstamps is usually from M60 machine guns. I got a 5 gallon pail of the stuff for free years agao it was so stretched out I had to full length size them then trim them ie lots of work.... The WRA= winchester repeating arms. LC = Lake city arsinel. SL= Saint Louis 1954
  6. The smoke comes from 2 things. One being the lube used some more than others, the other factor is the powder from what I understand Titegroup has a high nitroglycirn content within the powder which adds to the smoke. Clays, solo 1000 or 231 for example don't create as much smoke from what I have been told. Yes cast bulletts smoke more than jacketed bullets do but when you are on a budget there are tradeoffs.
  7. Attached you will find a spread sheet of precast bullett sources. Titegroup will smoke do a search and see what I mean. I shoot Unique, 700-x I am going to try som Solo 1000 as that has been recommended to try with cast bulletts cast_bullet_prices.htm
  8. It's only in the upper 700 FPS, 700-x won't make major with a 200gr cast bullett not in my gun anyways... I did have to go with a lighter spring to get it to cycle properly though.
  9. Your not moving them fast enough, push them harder over some 2400 or 4227.
  10. my 13 year old shoots a 200gr cast bullett over 4.7 gr of 700-x very soft shooting and controllable for him. this makes a nice load it will drop steel fine I use it for pratice myself at that charge wieght you get almost 1500 rounds out of a pound.
  11. My guess is the Motor absorbed mouisture being in the gargage electronics doesn't really like damp envioronments..... my .02
  12. I'm at 1.18 on my 200gr cast and 1.20 on my 200gr Jacketed you do get some rooom to work. The best way to determine OAL length is to remove the barrell and seat 10@ your new length and make sure they are at the barell hood or slightly below. I shoot 6.0gr of Unique with a 200gr LSWC.... Once I get a reliable load and lenght I like I make a dummy round so I always have something to go back too...
  13. 1. Use your jb bore paste get as much as you can. 2. take some jb bore paste and take a cast bullett and with 2 pieces of flat metal roll the paste into the bullett make 3-5 of these they will lap the bore somewhat whiel you fire these thru the gun. 3. shoot these thru the gun loaded singley. 4. clean the barell again with Rem Clean applied to a patch wrapped around a Nylon brush 5. Clean with Hoppes or some other suitable bore cleaner. 6. treat bore with oil 7. shoot it again and see what happens if (you probaly won't clear all the pitting but you should improve it more) 8. if needed Sarco has Roto barrells Mil spec for 37.95 ea www.sarcoinc.com
  14. Not to confuse things I also use 700-x with good luck.
  15. I personally have dealt with a tragic injury to my daughter 10 years ago and there is nothing remotley close to it. I will pray for you and your family and daughters well being Stay Strong, Pray Long and believe, he will get you through this...
  16. I shoot an old WW1 issue 45 with 6 gr unique with a 200gr cast bullett for matches pratice I go down to 5 grs with a lighter recoil spring so it ejects properly
  17. Very nice work from all hodge podge parts. I was thinking of buying a Sarco frame and slide kit for my son and me to put together as a learning project. The he would have his own SS then right now he's using my brother spare springer someday he will want it back...
  18. Nice find, where did you find it? I looked at the Alliant web site and everywhere else and couldn't find anything for Unique and 185SWC. I was thinking of going 5.4 gr and 5.6 of the Unique and see what it does and then up more if needed. Thanks fr the information. the Lyman handbook has the most info for cast bullett loads around. I usually start at the mid point on any powder charge and adjust from there rather than the bottom, my rule of thumb because most books are consirvative anyways.....
  19. the Lube and powder chioce also make a difference too Titegroup they say smokes due to it's high burn rate vs say Unique and 700-x...
  20. the 185 gr with Unique calls for between 5.0 &7.5 grs you were/are at the bottom of the book try 6.0 and see what you get, good luck
  21. you may want to try 700-x or Unique they don't smoe much and the 700-x is really soft shooting.
  22. If the bulletts are not deforemd too bad usem buddy letem fly....
