I have been on GT since I started reloading. I only hang out in the reloading forum and all I can say is they are the true definition of family. Sure, maybe only 33% of the posts are actually reloading related...lol but those are very informative and helpful. The rest...just like a family get together...some joking, some ribbing, some relatives that get on your nerves from time to time but I wouldn't give up on GTR for anything. The two forums I check about 50 times a day are mine and GT reloading, I have never wandered off into any of the other forum sections...makes my day complete. If you want a very technical forum that never gets off topic then its best to stay away. If you want a little fun along the way and can take it with a grain of salt than you will have a great time there...just my 2 cents...not saying you all don't have a fine place here though.
  3. I have still not been able to find a load, or good starting point for these bullets. One of my co-workers, we are both Navy, came back from Iraq this weekend and he wants to go shooting so I want to get these loaded for him to play with ASAP. I have the following components. W748 BL-C(2) Varget CCI small rifle magnum primers..they worked really well with the W748 for me, I assume they will do the same for the BL-C(2) since they are both ball powders. Several different headstamp cases. I would prefer to use one of the first two powders because those are the ones I have primers for. If anyone has a load, or a good starting point PLEASE let me know. OAL would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you.
  4. As far as I know you have to buy them directly from him and he is backordered on supplies to build new ones but expects them in soon. If you want one he has a waiting list going so I would put my name on it ASAP. You could try ebay or gunbroker but from what I understand these things are so great that nobody would want to sell one, exept for an estate sale, someone desperate for money or just getting out of reloading. Either way, I'm guessing they hold their value so you may as well buy from Giraud directly and get the warranty.
  5. There is a new web forum dedicated for realoaders to trade their brass and gear with each other. The address is: http://www.ammobrasstrader.com/
  6. "All the accuracy nuts in my area that shoot IMSHA or other long range games told me to a "T" one powder, WW 748. They told me that at around 25gr of WW 748 you will know if your gun or components will shoot, period. Knowing their experience and how goddamn picky(read anal) they are....well, finicky would be a better term I guess... laugh.gif I have WW 748 on the shelf for the 55/62s I could find in stock, and Varget for the 69/75s I will load as well. Good luck, DougC" I agree and thank you.... Well, I got to take out all of my 223 loads for a test today. I went figuring the HSM 52gr BTHP Match loads would be the best but I was surprised that they weren't. I loaded the 55gr Win FMJ bulk bullets with 4895 and W748 with 4 different primers for each powder and they all shot like #@&*. I loaded up some Speer 52gr BTHP Match bullets with the W748 and found my load. Its not the greatest, or maybe it is because I'm not the best shot in the world, but I was very happy. I used 27.4 gr of the 748, CCI 425 small rifle magnum primers, the Speer bullets, Federal cases, and an OAL of 2.200. With that powder weight I got a .600 edge to edge group with all of the holes touching or overlapping. I'm not sure if I can tweak that down any or if I just need to load up some more and practice my shooting. I think that will definitely be my load from now on though and as an added bonus, that 748 looks like it will run through a powder dispenser on a progressive like water.
  7. I loaded 100. It was my first test run through my new Lee Pro 1000. I was using a Lyman DPSII instead of the powder dispenser and I forgot to raise the ram once before I dumped the powder...rookie mistake...lol. Anyway, I didnt take that case out and dump it so I figure there would have to have been some powder in the case plus the actual load when I dumped it in the case. I figured better safe than sorry and just pulled all 100, put the powder dispense on and ran them back through in no time. I like the powder dispenser, my Lyman says the throws are +/- .1 grain each time I weighed them. I just wish it didnt throw so much powder all over the turret and shellplate. Anyway, thanks for the info.
  8. I think I might have accidentally gotten up to an extra grain in one of the rounds I loaded for up to 5.2 grains. I dont mind if shooting it would be safe but just shred the plating. I just dont want a big bang in a bad way. I figured I could just weigh all the finished rounds and find the one that was a little heavier but it seems component variations hid the extra grain if it is there. Any thoughts on a potential 5.2 grain load with the above mentioned components? Thanks.
  9. Thanks. I was starting to think I asked the world's dumbest question. I only have WSP primers but I don't imagine that should make much difference. Another question since I haven't loaded plated before. I have my Lee seater die 3 turns up from the shellholder which if I understand correctly is no crimp. Should I keep it that way or turn it down a notch for a slight crimp? I'm only shooting at 7 and 25 yards offhand so I'm not expecting one ragged hole. Thanks again.
  10. I bought some X-treme plated 9mm 124gr bullets last night. Wow they look nice. They would look better loaded up in some brass for my CZ75 and my wife's Sig 226 though. Does anyone have load data and OAL data for these bullets using either HS 6 or HP 38? Thank you
