Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Interestingly enough, At the Newark Airport, I had tried to carry on 15 empty fired 308 blank cases that were used for my father memorial at West Point. The TSA agent would not allow me to carry them on. They were polite and had gone into the back to check but clearly they don't know their own regs.
  2. Magnum Force for shooting - iconic. Python, Model 29 and Hogan's Alley - really what started Practical Pistol. Scaramouche - Longest and best fencing scene in Movie history - and that includes Princess Bride.
  3. Actually you could have an infinite number of Euros and not make exact change for a dollar (you didn't mention US coins as a parameter)
  4. Rich: Was good to run with you at Rio on Wednesday. I hope to have something other than the win 97 for the next one. Surprised they haven't posted the results yet.
  5. Wow, you must be ripped! Thats impressive but how is that helping forarm strength? Isn't that more shoulders and biceps? I'm not ripped, but I'm in good shape. Maybe if I didn't eat everything in sight I'd have a chance. If you do them with palms facing you you will work your hands, wrists, forearms, biceps and back. All of these muscle groups play a large role in the shooting stability. If you suspend yourself from a bar with elbows slightly bent you will feel a fair amount of tension in your hands, wrists and forearms. I weight 175 so it's just my hands holding up that weight. Then add the motion of pulling yourself up 100 times which adds additional strain. You are really working the wrists and forearms until your upper arms becomes almost parallel with the ground. It's for time, but you don't have to stay on the bar the entire time. I do 20 at first and then sets of 5 as quickly as I can. It usually takes me 7 minutes to complete. Guys in great shape can do it in well under 5 minutes. Deadlift is another great exercise for grip. Chinups are with palm facing, pullups are palms away
  6. We had 755 CAS shooters at Winter Range and 125 Wild Bunch shooters in the separate Wild Bunch National Championship. Most of the WB shooters shot both matchs. Here in AZ you have a choice of shooting a monthly Wild Bunch standalone match at one club or at a couple of other clubs you shoot your WB guns during the standard CAS match. Both work. The standardized rules are helping however there may be some tweaking of the rules for a bit so we'll see. The link above has info, additionally the Sass wire forum has info and there is a Wild bunch forum at http://www.sassnet.com/wildbunch/forum/
  7. One advantage of SASS is that there are enough catagories for everyone. If you are interested in shooting an original BP load just choose the Frontier Cartridge or Frontier Cartridge Duelist category and you'll be fine. if you Want to shoot a 45 then shoot in the Classic Cowboy category which requires .40 cal or larger .
  8. Shiloh's wait times are almost a thing of the past. I bought my Shiloh in 2000 (0rdered in 1995) but now they actually have a stock on hand and special orders are just a year I think.
  9. Shot three matches in the mid ninties. It was fun. Almost won a pistol (.5 sec too fast) arg. But haven't owned a Glock for several years now and the match that used to be held at Rio is now down in Tucson.
  10. Been shooting CAS since 1994. We had 755 shooters at Winter Range this year so we must be doing something right. As far as clothes. You can shoot in levi's, boots and a hat with a henley long sleeve shirt. Doesn't have to be complicated.
  11. best thing about using Mobil One is that after I change my oil in the car, I just cap the bottles and turn them upside down. Then later in the day I open them (upside down) and the cap is full. I use a small oiler to suck the oil up. So it's basically free.
  12. First _ I'm mostly a Cowboy shooter but some things are constant. I like to think "Athlete" Very few sports are done "standing up" - So more of an athletic approach - knees bent, forward lean type posture. I like this vid for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2zYvMpTeqI...feature=channel

I know this is an old rant but I ABSOLUTELY hate Amex. Had an account there for several years. Then one day I get a call from my bank. Apparently AmeX is attempting to cash a $50,024.00 check that I supposedly wrote them to pay off a bill. Course I don't keep 50K in my checking account. We wrote the check for $524.00 to pay that month off. AMex kept insisting that I added the zeros (to what purpose I have no idea) I asked Amex to send me a copy of the check they were trying to cash - well Amex says they destroyed it as thats what they do with all checks that bounce. It took a YEAR to get Amex to stop trying to cash the check in the wrong amount. None of this makes sense of course but that's AMEX and to this day I won't go near an AMEX card.
  14. The liquid to soak the case in is WD40 to deactivate the primer. I'm not going to assume anything. The last bit of movement that pushs the case into Station one is the primer sitting movement i.e. the pressure forward(away from you) on the handle. this action is best used as a "2nd step" and not a continuation of the action down so as to feel the primer enter the case. At that point the case in Station 1 should be fully seated. If not then The cam as mentioned above is the obvious problem and it needs adjustment.
  15. "If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves" Winston Churchill.
