  1. That was one of the questions I forgot to post: how heavy are the buckshot and slugs?

I just assumed they were not LR.

One of the other things I wanted to play with but haven't yet is making different length action tubes.

I was wondering what would happen if you made a shorter tube(spring-ramrod pc-tube-gas piston) and see if it would delay/soften recoil.

I did try running a Remington action spring as it is the same diameter but just slightly heavier.

It worked for most loads but I ran into issues cycling low recoil slugs so I went back to a stock Mossberg spring.

One of the mods I did that definitely lowered pressures was to lengthen the forcing cone at the end of the chamber.

I used a tool I got from brownells and it took some time to get it cut all the way down the taper of the reamer.

How are the barrels on those JM Pros???

It seems a lot of the 930 barrels have non-concentric and/or parallel choke tube threads as well as bending issues.

You can look down the bore of mine and see where it starts bending upward and looking futher you can see the back edge of the choke tube on the left side.

It does not change as you unscrew the choke tube so it's definitely the barrel threads.

I found this out last year when I was doing the barrel reaming and polishing.

Explains why it shoots further right when you use a tighter choke tube and why shot and slugs don't shoot same POA.

  2. I ran into a couple a their guys at the PRO-AM last year and we had a very short talk about them taking over Ace's website and stuff.

My FFL Dealer has been trying to get their dealer info for about a month now and I think they are very busy since He can't seem to even talk to them.

I've been using the ARFX stock since I started 3-Gun and it's still my choice.

I also like their M4-7 heavy duty buffer tube.

    Nick

  3. Wolff Makes a reduced power buffer spring....which might work.

I use them with A2 length tube, carbine buffer, and spacer system thats lets me increase the spring pressure incrementally if need be since the spring is actually longer in the tube than it would be with a normal rifle length buffer.

  4. Fastshooter 03. Here's the path, sorry it's so long, to my article on polishing the shell latch. If it won't release rounds with a full tube, this fixed it. http://www.brownells...=MTMzODkzOTA3S0

Talking with someone about welding lifters causing problems because of extra weight - he completely dispelled that when he said, "it works when lifting a 1 oz shell and a 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 oz shell, the little bit you ad welding it up is far less than 1/4 oz. You have something else wrong." Made sense to me.

    Thanks Larry,

  5. Is this a problem with just the JM Pro's?

The only problem I have w my turkey(Open) 930 is too much mag spring pressure will not allow a shell to release properly from the tube.

I know messing with the release spring pressure causes problems when just hand cycling and may look like those stated above when fired?

I hear from Mark Roth(X-Rail) all the time to keep the release area well lubed.

If I had to guess at the 3(just in this post?) different JM's w same issue that it is something to do with the release lever spring pressure being too high or something on the inside of the receiver is causing friction on the lever during cycling heavier rounds maybe due to flexing of the receiver itself.

Maybe the lever is just a little too tight a fit in it's channel on the receiver?

Keep in mind this is just a theory and nobody should start modifying their stuff.

  6. I only have one piston rifle so my experience is limited in that regard.

But I do prefer a normal gas system's lower recoil impulse and smaller profile on the barrel

Bolt failure is a hard thing to predict.

If you do some internet searching you might be able to come up with some numbers.

I like to think I have some extra life coming since I use the JP enhanced bolt.

I have seen a lot of chipped lugs on 308 ars w normal gas.

    Nick

  7. I wouldn't think so.

Normal AR the gas is forcing the bolt forward and the carrier rearward at the time of unlocking.

Piston is just slapping the carrier rearward to unlock everything so you would think it is harder on the cam and bolt.

  8. I use the Arrendondo 2 pc plastic.

It was not a big help at the CMMG team event though :angry2:

On the way to prone w rifle, my finger hit it and the mag went flying :roflol:

I'm pretty sure I heard the RO laughing as I cursed myself and tried to finish the embarrasment

I have the video but I don't think I'm going to add it to utube with the rest I just put up.

You can't see anything but how long it takes for me to start shooting.

  9. Wow, sounds like I need to shoot the Nordic match next year

Just need to get them to stop scheduling Road America events on the same weekend. :D

    What to get for Open??

How much Money and patience do you have??

You might have issues no matter what way you go.

I've seen/heard of everything out there breaking down at some point.

If you have enough cash you could get Robert to make you a nice Saiga AND do the maintainence.

  10. I don't know what all stages weren't allowed a 5 minute walkthrough, but, our stage was one of them, which was AM2.

    <snip>

We did the best we could, with what we had to work with, and wish we could have afforded to give the shooters more time.

You both did a great job getting us through without being pushy about it. you were the Akdal shooters, right?

    Thank you!

Yes, we had Akdals, but, I ran my JP1100, because in practice, at the range Wednesday, my Akdal was choking. I THINK I'm going to try it at the Ozarks match, next week, but, I need to get to the range with it one more time, and if it runs at least 100 rounds without a problem, I'm going to run it. :goof:

Aren't you going to have to clean it after 100rds so it won't jam and then start over again! :roflol: Just kiddin hope it works!

Many Thanks to the Rockcastle crew,RO's,Sponors,Staff. Big thanks to FNH for the shotgun! I've never had one that was worth that much without an X-Rail on it

Every match seems to have it's issues. I'm sure everyone has experienced them. It takes a lot of effort to put these matches on so you need to just roll with it!

  11. FYI, Knoxx is now owned by Blackhawk Industries.

Also the AA-12 seems to be a viable mag fed gun.

I've always wondered why the folks who make the AA12 don't have a semi auto version?????

I've heard the way the mags go in is a little ackward on those as well???

Why not have a semi auto version with AR style flattop and AR style mag insertion?

    Nick

  12. Thanks Ken, Larry, RO's, Military help, CMMG and sponsors.

Especially Stag Arms for the rifle.

I thought this was the best match I've seen so far at the CMMG facility.

Day 1 (stg 6-9) went really quick.

Day 2 (stg 1-4) dragged on a bit but we still got out early compared to years past.

Day 3 (stg 5) weather held out luckily and the prize table went rather quickly.

Lots of teams for the charity event which was good to see.

Big thanks to squad 6 and other helpful friends

  13. Trying to get set-up for 3 - Gun.

1 - Purchased a FN SLP MK l, it just don't like low base ammo. It will feed but don't want to eject emptys after fireing. Have the right gas piston installed, cleaned and lubed properly. E-Net folks tell me to shoot 700-800 rounds or change the springs. I am 76 yr senior don't wanna wait. One would think a high dollar shotgun would work/run outta the box.

2 Was P/off bought a Mossberg 930, didn't like the barrel ordered a 24" Turkey non-ported ribbed with sights, and Nordic stuff to trick out. It will shot any thing I have loaded in the gun. Problem it shots slugs about 6" to 8" high at 25 Yds, Can not get the rear sight any lower and/or the front any higher. Where do I get proper sights to install on a ribbed turkey barrel that are not mickey mouse quality????

Now I have two high dollar shotguns and nothing I trust to shot in a local match Saturday.

Now AIN'T That A BITCH, but Turkeys will be safer LOL!

    Perry

1 Are you using steel base junk ammo? Don't. Saw a 930 JM this weekend wouldn't cycle steel base Winchester ammo. Also saw a totally brand new SLP running AA lo brass reloads that lookd like they had been through a fire then steppd on a bunch of times.

2 I had to make a new higher front sight for my 930 w 24" turkey barrel. Just a pc of delrin with a channel milled on bottom then drilled for a screw hold down and for the FOptic then taperd on top and slotted for light. Rear sight was changed to a hiviz "adjustable".

Maybe I should start selling 930 front sights :D

Are you using a mag ext and barrel clamp? The clamp and change your POI if the centerlines are not spaced right.

I would guess that's not the prob though since I know of other unmodified 930s with the same prob.

    Nick

  14. In Open and Limited I've had less problems with 930 compared to 11-87.

I wouldn't mind trying a versa max though.....

But until I win lottery it's gonna be 930.

    Nick

I got my Versa Max 26" for $1174 after state tax at my local shop. But that's still some big coin, I suppose. I like it very much.

It's months away, but if you will be at Rockcastle ProAm, let me formally invite you to try mine at the match. I had some serious work done on it by Jeff Cockrum. Runs great, but it ran nicely before just with the Devil's Own Pitchfork Lifter!

Thanks. I think I'll have a chance once Mark Roth(X-Rail) gets done playing with his test Versa Max.

Hopefully it won't take to long.

    Nick
