Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Go with the Redneck Tactical bolt release tab. It's easier to install, and I've had way fewer issues with them.
  2. I somehow managed to forget that the guys at Rose Action Sports have been doing installs of our rear sights as well! The rear sight is our 20-2095P-130-1. The height is .130" (and it is offered in a bunch more heights as well).
  3. Uncledoc, Have you got one of the tactical models with ghost rings or a vent rib? I know we don't have anything for the ghost ring guns. That rear sight is kind of a multipurpose item. We use it quite a bit on pocket pistols. It just happens to work well on shotguns with a solid vent rib. Unfortunately, not all of them are solid (Mossberg being one that doesn't use a solid vent rib). Jeff at C-Rums, Trapr at Redneck Tactical and Mike at Accurate Iron can all do an installation (and all of them do darn good work!).
  4. Thanks again to JJ, Denise and the awesome crew of RO's that they had! The He-Man Nationals was definitely the best match that I have shot this year! I'm definitely planning on being back next time around! Congratulations again to my good friends Kuan Watson and Tate Moots for their 1st place finishes! Nicely done, amigos!
  5. It chrono's right at 2500 from both of the 16: 8 twist guns I run for matches. The steel cased training ammo runs about 100 fps faster in my experience.
  6. Originally, mine would not always release a shell from the tube when the bolt was racked. A stainless shim later, it seems to work fine. I have also noticed that if I slap the bolt release like I do on my Benelli, sometimes the bolt hangs on the lifter. If I press the bolt release, it seems to work fine. Still haven't figured that one out. So far, it seems like a decent scattergun. I'm still running the old M1 for 3 gun though. Damn thing just won't stop running.
  7. Larry, Thank you, and the rest of the men and women at Brownell's! NRA's Life of Duty is going to be a great program, and it's awesome that ya'll chose to support it! Thank you as well for the support of 3 Gun! We do appreciate it, and I guarantee you that everyone of us who shoot 3 gun spend money with ya'll! Monte
  8. Thank you to Kirk, Larry, all of the ROs and the Marines for all of the hard work. The stages were great, and I had a damn good time shooting them! Without their efforts, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to shoot the match. Thank you! Thank you also to my fellow shooters for buying the raffle tickets for the items that Brownell's and XS Sights donated. Both raffles were to raise money to help veterans organizations. In the case Of the Mossberg 930 that we(XS Sights) donated, the money is going to HAVA (http://www.honoredveterans.org/) to help get injured veterans out on the range and out hunting. Thank you all for the help! Thank you also for donating to the Marines for the Marine Corps Ball. They came out to help, and it was definitely nice having them out there to help set the stages. Thank you! Monte Long
  9. There should have been instructions included. Apparently, someone goofed that day. Shoot me an email (mlong at xssights.com) and I'll email you the proper instructions for that set. Both the front sight and the rear sight in the SG-3001-X sets were designed to fit a .250"X.060°X.050" dovetail cut, which is what we cut into the rib when we do installations here. Trapr likes to run a bit deeper cut on the rear sight, and that's okay. The rear will work with the dovetail being a bit deeper. If you're using our front sight, you don't want to cut that dovetail deeper than .050" or so. Monte
  10. That wasn't me that fell on 9. My display of fumbled footedness was on a pistol/shotgun stage in the woods. It was my first stage of the match, no less. Can't wait to shoot this one again!
  11. Which one was stage 9? I know I had a less than graceful left butt cheek slide across one stage with my pistol pointed down range and dragging my left hand through the mud. Somehow, I managed to not get DQ'ed, finish the stage, and laugh at my self. Matter of fact, I think a couple of people laughed at that one.
  12. What did you come up with for a load?
  13. I'm using a 68 Hdy bullet, 23.8 grains of 8208XBR and a Winchester WSR primer, in Winchester brass. It's clocking about 2650 from a 16" barrel, and puts five rounds into about 3/4" at 100 yards.
  14. Alex, I did pretty much the same thing for 55 grain TAP about three years ago. I started by chronographing the ammo to see what it was doing. Then I went to my manuals and picked a couple of types of powder that I already had that the book said should get me in the neighborhood velocity wise. Then I started working up a load, looking for something that gave me the same kind of groups and point of impact at my zero distance (100 yards in this case). Then I chrono'd the ammo. I actually wound up with ammo running about 80 FPS faster than TAP, but I'm getting the same group size and POI at 100 yards as TAP. Inside 300 yards, I'm within a half a minute of TAP. Since I run an AimPoint for my SD gun, that's good enough. I cant see a target smaller than 1.5-2 MOA at 300 yards. I realize that there should never be a reason to use a defensive rifle beyond 50 yards or so. That being said, I don't get to choose the circumstances of a self defense engagement, I just have to deal with the fight that picks me. Knowing that I can reliably hit targets out to 300 yards gives me a whole lot of confidence. Confidence in your equipment and abilities is a big advantage, competitively or in a self defense situation. In your case, I would look at Hodgdon H4895, H335 and IMR 8208 XBR for powders, assuming that you don't have anything on the shelf. I've also had good luck with Accurate 2520 and Ramshot's Tac with 77 and 75 grain bullets. If you're in a bind, you can substitute 77 gr Nosler or Sierra data for 75 Hornady projectiles. DO NOT USE DATA FOR 75 grain VLD's! They are considerably longer, and are generally seated out a bit compared to the 75 Hornady or 77 Nosler and Sierra bullets. Hodgdon's reloading data center has a good bit of info, and is a reliable source of info. ML
