  1. More often than not, I do not deprime before I tumble. This is a batch of 3000 or so cases (after 1hr tumbling in my $50 homemade tumbler) drying in the TX sun in August. In 2.5 beers they were not only dry but you couldn't hold a hand full of them unless you had gloves on. Great, now do that in the winter in Idaho.
  2. The cost of liquid (dawn is real cheap, lemishine if desired is cheap per load and water is really cheap) is less than the cost of the walnut shells, mineral spirits and polish. I like to wash brass, well before I used stainless steel media tumbling I used to wash my brass in water and dawn in a tub with some hand agitation (pretty high tech). Those results alone were pretty good and one could have easily loaded the brass after that process. Washing the brass is more effective for some of the brass I pick up as a result of the amount of grit, sand and small stones that find its way into the brass. My drying technique is pretty expensive too, I let the brass air dry... You are using a cleaning technique intended for benchrest shooting with extensive brass prep investment on pistol brass churned out by the thousands. Are you depriming your pistol brass before you clean it? If you are there is one more brass handling step most people don't have. If you are not de-priming then at some point you will have water contamination in your primer pockets. It's just a matter of time. Using any liquid cleaning method on pistol brass, or rifle brass for intended for blasting ammo is a complete waste of time and effort. If you have time to burn, knock yourself out, I've got better things to do with my life than fuss over how shiny my brass is.
  3. You don't need to use liquid to clean brass, especially in a cement mixer. The entire process of adding in liquid adds considerable time and a bit of cost to a process that simply does not require it. Plain old walnut shell from the feed store in 50lb bags along with a small amount of mineral spirits or your favorite brass cleaner (Dillon or Flitz) and toss in a couple of used dryer sheets to cut down on the dust. Simple as that.
  4. It's a US made one we got at Home Depot over 10 years ago. I still use it for concrete occasionally as well. It will hold two 90lb bags of concrete, plastic tub, metal blades bolted to the tub. I usually run it for ~2 to 4 hours per batch. Takes a while to sort out all the brass from the walnut after each run.
  5. Just tumble the brass in walnut and call it good. You guys that wet and stainless steel pin your brass you are going to shoot are freaking nuts.
  6. I use a cement mixer, blades are still in it. I do 5 gallon buckets at a time with crushed walnut I buy from the feed store in 50lb bags. Not pretty enough for the brass lovers, but plenty good enough to shoot.
  7. They work with most springs we use on guns. There are several adapters in the package.
  8. It's like $5 for the part. Done a bunch of them.
  9. That is what we use. Just don't try to use it on an XD without soaking the sights in Kroil for at least 24hrs.
  10. We usually round file all the Kimber trigger group parts.
  11. The Ammoload brass is odd, but water weight measurement shows them no worse than GFL or WCC brass. The major loads coming apart is a concern, I'll be tossing them from now on.
  12. Why pay that much for a Series 80? For that matter, why pay anything for Series 80?
  13. I got a DW Specialist and put some VZ Marine logo grips, job done.
  14. The 712 and the 912 have very similur action bars. We've gotten a couple of broken 712 and 912 action bars over the years. I know CZ tries to actually engineer changes when they see an issue, like the new hammers for instance. The most recent broken action bar we saw was a 912 and the new replacement was a two piece design that eliminated the weld by interlocking the bars and the ring in a very simple manner. One of those, "Why didn't they do it that way all along?" sort of moments when I saw it. It's great to see you guys using these guns in competition, We always tell the new people buying guns from us the reason we know what wrorks is because we beat the crap out of them ourselves in competition. We sell a bunch of farmers in our area the 712 Utility because it does everthing they need right out of the box. Great little gun for a bargin.
  15. I have been perfectly happy running 930's for the last couple of years. Bought a heavly used Win SX2 22"(FN SLP Copy) from a guy that was sick of it not working. It was filthy, so I sonic tanked the gun clean. Barrel had like half a pound of lead in it, but it cleaned up perfect. Lubed the action, bolt etc. no lube on the piston area. Tested it at home, worked fine with my reloads and the cheap Federal 1145 stuff. Just so happened Rudy Waldinger was having a shotgun class so I took the SX2/SLP and my faithful 930 I've been shooting. One of my very good friends also came to the class and brought his FN SLP 18" gun that has been giving him fits since he got it. I'm 6'3" and 200lb and he is a bit bigger, we are both experienced shooters. We shot all day and he had nothing but trouble. I let him shoot my SX2 and he had the same issues. We tried all different kinds of ammo from 1145fps Federals to 1300FPS Winchesters throughout the day. Everything worked for me in both my guns, nothing worked consistantly for him. At the last most intense session of the day I used his SLP. I fully expected the gun to give me fits and it ran flawlessly with a mix of 1145 and 1200FPS Federal target loads. I pounded on that gun and it just ran and ran. He was pissed at himself and the gun. I'm not suggesting the OP's problem is user error, I'm just relating my experience with the SLP/SX2
  16. Reading this was painful. I loose my mind when people actually cheat, the OP is not cheating. No advantage (other than saving a few bucks maybe) was being taken by the OP. You are welcome at any match I'm at. BTHOEFER, Never admit you may have been incorrect. No matter what. Can you tell us your real name and where you live so we know what to expect when we meet you in person? Or do you prefer to hide behind the internet? By the way I'm Spencer Hutchings. I shoot in Fresno, Coarsegold, SLO mostly. Still looking for a local match in the CDA/Sandpoint area.
  17. My wife has a Para SSP (stainless .38 Super) and a SSP-SE1 (carbon .45ACP.). She simply loves the guns and I must admit the SSP-SE1 is a damn fine shooter. The SSP-SE1 was a "Painted Ordnance" gun and I ended up parkerizing after giving Para three (3) tries at refinishing it. I've replaced many substandard (plastic and MIM) parts in both guns and then I got to the sights . . . The sights were MIM, poor quality MIM, and have a non standard cut. Since one of the sights said Novak on it I called them and asked them what they could do. Nothing with the stock Para sight cuts it turns out. After several phone calls Novak reluctantly agreed to weld and recut the slides for proper sights. They did a fantastic job and both guns came out as well as anyone could wish. My wife has her guns back with proper sights she can use and depend on.
  18. We have several T1 / H1 on the GG&G mounts. The mounts work out well with the integrated Butler Creek covers. ans QD mount.
  19. CCI AR Tactical works in all of my rifles, CZ-512, 10/22's, AR style 22's, pumps, bolts and levers. Federal Automatch works in all of the pistols, Sig 1911-22, Buckmarks, Model 41, S&W M&P22 and 2213, Revolvers. Gemtech works in everything. All three of these rimfire loads produce good to great accuracy when I take my time and shot groups.
  20. Just documenting this for the next poor soul. Pistol: Springfield Armory Mil-Spec .38 Super, GI Style Ammo: Starline Super Comp Brass w/ MGB Bullets, (minor load) - All my ammo gets gauged, perfect or practice bucket. Mags: Tripp Research & Wilson Combat Original Issue: Pitching brass in the next county, occasional failure to extract. One thing lead to another and I installed an AFTEC and followed the instructions to the letter. Fitted a new EGW over sized firing pin stop and contoured per the AFTEC instructions. The AFTEC seemed to solve the brass pitching issue and have not had a failure to extract since. A new Issue cropped up, feed failures and failures to fully return to battery. Slap the back of the slide stuff. I thought it might be a break in sort of thing and just dealt with it for a while. Eventually I got annoyed and put it away for a few years. The wife decides to shoot her super in a local fun match, so I joined her and still had the same issue with failure to return to battery, even got the blood blisters on the palm of my hand to prove it . So after reading here and on the interwebs I found a comment about removing one spring from the AFTEC. This solved the issue. Rounds are now landing a reasonable distance from the gun and the gun is feeding and functioning properly. So if your AFTEC equipped gun is suddenly not feeding properly, try removing one of the springs.
  21. What on earth does tumbling the rounds have to do with anything? I think you may have some bad info. Some believe there is evidence that excessive tumbling can pulverize powder and change it's characteristics It's been talked about here in the past.. Yeah, that is what we call BS where I come from. How do you think the ammo you buy in the store gets so clean? To each there own pal. FWIW I tumble mine after loading to get what tiny bit of one shot is left on them off. I had a guy tell me I was going to blow up my tumbler doing it. I thought that was BS too but I was humble enough to let him have his opinion. Opinions are fine, I like facts better. The old wives tale about tumbler explosions needs to be put to rest. Can't happen, won't happen. Tumbling loaded rounds does not effect powder or primers. You could tumble ammo loaded with Federal primers along with some carbide tipped punches and they will NEVER go off.

  23. I could not make these shoot in my 627. Well not good enough for ICORE Standards anyway. Close in they were fine.
