Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I recently bought 2 cans of Talon 50. I ended up shooting about 100 rounds so far and decided to tumble the brass and use them to learn how to reload. Most of the brass is labeled L C 5 3 with a gold primer (i assume its lake city 1953, and the rest (about 15% of the talon) is labeled T W 5 2 (????) which has a silver primer. I bought the Lee BMG kit complete with dies. Anyhow, I setup the press tonight and went to test out the depriming/resize die. I followed the directions exactly, including lubing the cases and verifying the length, but I am having an issue. The press and die is not strong enough to push out the gold primer from the cartridges labeled L C 5 3. I pushed like crazy on the handle to deprime the case with no luck. I had to eventually take the case out of the press, put a punch tool down in the case and against the primer and hammer like hell to get it out. But... the press WAS able to deprime the silver primer from the T W 5 2 case but it took ALOT of effort. Once I hammered out the gold primer, I noticed that it was pretty flat (Maybe a high pressure sign?). But so far, I cannot deprime most of this talon ammo unless I use a hammer and a punch tool and go at like mad. Any ideas on what the problem is or what I can do about it? I am getting pretty frustrated with it. Thanks I attached a pic.
  2. Thanks. Yeah, we can shoot AP as long as it is not a handgun round.
  3. I have a pile of pulled .50 BMG AP bullets with 2 gashes on each side from when they were pulled. Will these marks damage the barrel if I fire them? Is there anything I should be worried about? Thanks
  4. Thanks guys. The source where I bought the pulled bullets is all sold out. I used the paint thinner technique and it worked well. I soaked it in mineral spirits/paint thinner for 1 hour, and made sure to shake/stir the bucket twice during the hour. The hour was long enough to remove all of the selant tar stuff and not long enough to affect the green painted tip. I then laid all the bullets on a towel, and wiped over them with another towel, then tossed them in the tumbler with corn cob media. The bullets are now clean and shiny, and the green tip is still in good shape.
  5. I just purchased a good quantity of .223, .308, and .50 milsurp pulled bullets which I plan to load. The pulled bullets are covered in a black grime which looks like it was some sort of sealant in its passed life. What is this grime, and how do I safely remove it? I tried to google around for an answer since I thought it would be a common problem, but I did not find anything. Also, since some of these bullets are m855 (green tip) and m2 (AP - Black tip) rounds, I am assuming the bullet tip paint will be removed once I clean off the grime as well? Is there any way to remark the bullets with the right colored tip? Or maybe any good suggestions out there? I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be loading these bullets in their current grimed up condition. Thanks
  6. Hello- I have never reloaded before, and I just threw down alot of cash on a new dillon setup (550 + accesories). I have a question on the D-terminator 2 scale which I also purchased as well. When I weigh a bullet or powder load, there seems to be +/- 1-2 grains/grams fluctuation if I weigh the same item. Is this normal? Also, the weight I get is different if I am using the anti-static cover. Even if I place the cover on the scale, re-zero the scale and then add my bullet or powder load, the total weight I get is different from the weight of the same item if I did not have the static shield. I am talking about as much as 5-10 grains/grams difference here. When the cover is not on, there is absolutely no air movement in the room, the bench is level, and I am not breathing on it. The static cover is also aligned on the silver circle around the measuring pad and is not touching it in any way. What causes this and what should I do about it? Please help since I do not wish to blow myself up with bad measurements.... Thanks alot
