not so much reliability issues with the GPT, I should not have lumped them together in previous comment. More of the changing feel, increased weight and grit, as round count increases. Again, I just rather have plain and simple where it stays the same and I don’t have to clean it too often.

My main setup is Apex kit, Wolff 4.5 striker, reduced power plunger. big improvement over stock as far as reduced pull weight. I don’t care about lightest possible or clean break. I want simple and reliable. Apex is 100% for shoe feel on finger, save money and just do minus connector if you want. Timney and GPT reliability issues are no go for me. Timney weak reset was awful. Johnny Glocks too expensive. Simple is best for me.

Does double feed mean failure to extract? Hard for a pistol magazine to do a true double feed

Leave the extractor spring alone. a 15lb recoil spring is likely all you need. Just to lower required force a hair. small sample size but found the S2 barrel to be faster then Glock even though it is shorter. Older gen Glocks seem to be faster than gen 5 too

There are a few things to love about the gen 5’s, barrel is definitely one of them. magwell and trigger return spring ain’t bad either.

.388 and .378 should do

gen 5 had material removed under the MOS plate and elsewhere around the inside of slide. You can see comparing them or vs a g17. 34 weights .55oz more than 17. Bare slides, gen 5. Based on my own measurements. g34 weighs more all said and done with extra barrel length. as mentioned previously, they are very similar to me. Nothing that’s going to make or break the scores.

I can hardly perceive the slower slide on 34 vs 17, but that just me. Have one of each but 34 has been the main gun. In training there is no magic in either one. I do find it Intereting seeing Ben Stoeger with the 34’s. The conversation of shorter slide to pair with optics is very popular.

Historically, I would agree with your comments about primers and their impact. At this point, I have lots of data showing comparing primer brands as the only variable. I’m not the only person reporting these findings. Consistently lower velocity‘s around 30 ft./s and consistently higher spreads in extremes. I theorize The powder is not getting full ignition

what sort of ES are you seeing? Current production Fiocchi gives me larger spread than anything else. Often 60-80fps range.

Guide rods labeled as gen 5 are longer, no spacer required. but likely require stronger spring than previous gens.

4.5# striker and 15# recoil in gen 5 has treated me very well. edit: all my springs are Wolff. Never used ISMI 4.5 is plenty reliable for competitive use, I wouldn’t carry it. Maybe ginex or the like would have occasional light strikes if not seated deep.

Guide rod labeled as gen 5 (extra length) and spring that is suitable diameter to fit on said rod. That simple. Wolff and carver tungsten on gen 5 34 for me. Wolff fits larger diameter rod than ISMI I do recall looking for a more cost effective G17.5 stainless rod and was hard to find uncaptured. edit: the detail you were missing here is that wolf says their springs are not suitable for GEN four and five, because those guns do not come with a type of guide rod that can except aftermarket springs. What they mean to say is that you have to buy a guide rod to use their springs on those gens.

Can you share some more info and pics of your grip tape? Our setups are very similar, my talon grips are wearing out.

I use a razor blade to cut the tabs off mags.

Any troubles loading them? Tough to seat like Ginex? Or issues in the press?
