After shooting Single Stack for 3 years, I am planning to jump into USPSA PCC Division next year. (Because reloading every 10 rounds sucks!) I'm working on a rather limited budget and I've narrowed my choice of PCC down to two options within $100 + or - a few dollars of each other.
First is the standard, 10/22 looking version of the Ruger PC with a 16" barrel. I will say right here that I am a true fan of all things Ruger. (Except maybe the American semi auto pistol. Nobody liked those.) I know they have their limitations but there are shooters running them in competition. Also, if I feel they are needed, I can do upgrades as I progress. I would have to buy a separate case which brings it pretty close price wise to my 2nd option.
Second is the Just Right Carbines Gen3 Takedown with a 17" barrel and the sling bag. While the reviews I have seen on these seem to fair pretty well, I haven't seen or read anything about anyone actually shooting one competitively. That's really kind of what I want to know about. I doubt they have as many upgrade options as the Ruger either but if it runs, I likely wouldn't mess with it too much.
Of course, both take Glock mags which makes life easy.
Yes, I am going with the longer barrels because I don't want to give the ATF more money for an SBR permit. I try to avoid dealing with any subgroup of the Alphabet Soup Gang whenever possible. This is also why I don't own any suppressors.
I know there are more well known, better and $$$ PCCs out there but this is what I have to work with on the budget I have. It's probably a good thing Hi Point doesn't make higher capacity magazines. I almost said, "screw it," and went with a KelTec Sub2000 but I'd rather shoot myself in the foot with a .44 black powder round.
So, if these were the only two options available to you for your next match, which one would you chose and why?
