    Dog Mauling

I had a neighbor who owned a chow/great dane mix. Cujo would look like the Taco Bell chiahuahua next to this beast. I owned a mutt that most people thought was a rottweiller. One evening I came home to find the Chowbeast fighting with my dog. I had one of those collapsible steel batons so I began to beat on the Chowbeast. Totally ignoring me he flipped our large dog onto his back and was getting ready to sink into his belly when I ditched the baton and began kicking him. Fortunately his owner came along and helped stop the fight before anyone was seriously hurt. Yet another reason I now carry a gun. -jhgtyre
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. I hadn't thought about loosing all that case volume. That could be an issue. I haven't had too many problems with bulged cases in 9mm but I was worried about major PF causing them. Thanks, -jhgtyre
  3. After reading the posts about the 356 TSW I began thinking about 9mm major loads. The question I have is can a .223 be cut down to the length of 9x19 brass and used to create major pf loads? The advantage would be the strength of the case and the large amount of .223 brass I could pick up for free at the range. Any thoughts? -jhgtyre
  4. I think gm iprod brought up a very good point in that you will be able to use the reloader to make other calibers as well. You may only shoot 9mm right now but eventually you may want to try .45 for example and that stuff is almost never cheap at any store. Do get a Dillon press if you can. They make the best and even the Square Deal B is better than what most other companies put out. It is also cheap and caliber conversions for the SDB are pretty reasonable. You will be stuck using Dillon dies if you buy the SDB but there are worse problems you could have. Whatever you decide, good luck and have fun. -jhgtyre
  5. More than just the phrases that we read over and over again I want the weasel words to be forcibly ripped from the body of any article that contains them. "Acceptable combat accuracy" is an example of weasel wording. When I read a phrase like this and I see a photo of a 25-yard grouping the size of a baby rhino I get very unhappy. I think that the weaselfication of gun mags has led to many of the worn phrases that do pop up all too often. -jhgtyre
  6. I finally got the dime to stay up there but I had to put some Slide Glide on it. Thanks BE!
  7. The videos are good. Besides Lenny always reminds me of Troy McClure from The Simpson's -jhgtyre

    Dog Mauling

A local talk radio host who was totally in oppostion to your (and mine as well) point of view on this topic actually said "This is like holding a parent responsible for the actions of their kids!" The idiocy of this worldview astounds me. Of course I am responsible for the actions of my children untill they reach 18. I don't care what the boneheaded laws say I take the responsibility. My dog is no different. If it bites, mauls, or mutilates somebody it's my problem.
  9. You have to base your decision on what you feel is right. It does seem that he turned down your offer cold so you don't really have any obligation to the guy. Check out http://www.gunbroker.com if you want to help him sell the thing and help yourself feel good about the deal. Good luck, -jhgtyre
  10. Quote: from Julien Boit on 2:06 pm on Mar. 19, 2002 Slowly the Frogs are coming over the forum ! ! ! Uhm, that means something different in the U.S. but you might be taking over the forum!
  11. I seem to average about .62 with a lot of the "have you been drinking" messages, a few that wandered down into the low .5~ area, and one .2~ that was total luck. This sheds a lot of light on my failure to run 5 steel plates in under 2 seconds during our clubs .22 pistol matches! My best at that has been something like 2.25 seconds so wasting .6 before I even react is kind of a killer.
  12. Since the extended button is projecting farther back than the standard button and the redi-mag mounts in front of the standard button it should work but I haven't used it.
  13. Thanks for the info. Boy does that suck though! Chicago must be totally crime free if they have had this rule since the 70's! Maybe my buddy can take up lawn darts instead. Unless those are banned too. Big dart, very dangerous!
  14. Try here http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/magazines/rm-15a1.asp This page also has some info and a few pic's http://www.mdcharlton.ca/pdfs2000/FIREARMACCES.pdf -Jhgtyre (Edited by jhgtyre at 12:06 pm on Mar. 18, 2002)
  15. Hello, If anyone lives in Chicago, IL maybe you can answer a few questions for me. A friend of mine lives in Chicago and is thinking about getting started in some sort of shooting sport. The problem is that he doesn't think he is allowed to own a handgun in Chicago. Is that true? Secondly if he can own a handgun there what matches would be close by? Thanks, -jhgtyre
  16. Nope. Looks cool though.
  17. Try http://www.brownells.com part number 231-000-027. It's an extended bolt latch from DPMS. -jhgtyre
  18. Install IPSC XP or, if you are one of THOSE people, IDPA 1.0 for OS X. Run either program as often as needed to free up your system resources.
  19. I have a lowly Square Deal B but it seems pretty happy with Slide Glide as a lubricant. -jhgtyre
  20. I am not sure what gun he uses but Angus Hobdel (sp?) was reloading weak hand at one of our club matches and doing is pretty quickly. If I recall correctly he dropped the gun to just above his waist level with the feed ramp angled in towards his weak side and reloaded off of a belt. He placed pretty high in the MM 3gun match so he must be doing something right! -jhgtyre
  21. Try this one http://www.jmallard.com/rss020308o.htm or I can e-mail the results I have to you. -jhgtyre
  22. Your 625 should be good for IDPA. I don't think they let the 7 or 8 shot revo's play anyway.
  23. The pusher who supplies me with Thin Mints has already hit our neighborhood. So much for my diet! Oh well, after a good Thin Mint OD I am back on the right track. Now if I could just get rid of the TMWS (Thin Mint Withdrawal Symptoms). -jhgtyre
  24. I got my blaster back from the shop and I noticed all this pinkish goo around the cone on my comp so I asked the smith about it. He said "Oh, that's the crap that Brian sells on his website." "What crap? Brian who?" An hour later I had found the "Words" section of this site and I was hooked. I also have slathered most of my firearms with various amounts of Slide Glide. Thanks BE. -jhgtyre
  25. I didn't intend to imply major matches. I am talking about local matches as well. I (and I would hope everyone here) realize that every shooter regardless of ranking has good days and bad. I get to see a lot of GM's shoot and I get to see them screw up too. I would never say that meant they were poseurs. I was simply pointing out that not winning a match shouldn't reflect that someone hadn't earned a GM card but that rarely if ever shooting GM type scores during a match might. You are right the same could be said of any class. As far as a "walking god" goes; I tend to think everyone is the same only different.
