Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Just a quick update I went ahead and bought the holosun 507 comp, and mounted it on my shadow 2. I definitely need to dry fire some more to get the indexing just right, especially weak hand. I just sighted in the optic at 27 yards, and did some quite decent 10 shot groups. It is definitely easier to shoot accurately with the optic, since you don't need to worry at all about sight alignment. I occluded the dot entirely with a piece of tape for all the shooting/dry fire so far, to promote complete target focus. The 8 moa circle is fairly well defined, despite my astigmatism. It has roughly the same size as the 2 moa dot in my eyes, as the dot looks pretty blurry to me. I expect I will use either the 8 moa circle on its own, or the 8/2 combo
  2. Thanks for the feedback I think I might go with the Holosun. The lack of manual brightness adjustment on the Shield RMSx would eventually annoy me I think, even though I only shoot outdoors
  3. Hi all I have been shooting production with my Shadow 2 for 2-3 years now, and want to try shooting with an optic. I am based in the EU, so unfortunately many gun relating items are pretty overpriced. I have considered a bunch of different optics, but think I have it narrowed down to 2, and would really appreciate any input SRO - discarded due to price (~1000 USD) Sig Romeo 3 XL - discarded due to price (~900 USD) Burris Fastfire 4 - I like the different reticle options, but I am not convinced of the durability (~550 USD) C-more RTS2 - seems like the window is slightly smaller than the others (~550 USD) Shield RMSx - I have tried looking through the 8 moa version, but due to my astigmatism it looks much bigger. If I pick this, it will be in 4 moa (~550 USD) Holosun 507 Comp - I suspect the 2 moa may look like 5-6 moa due to my astigmatism, but in case it looks sharp there is also the 2/8 dot/circle combination (~500 USD) I am thinking of getting either the Shield RMSx or the Holosun 507 comp. I may be leaning slightly more towards the Holosun, as the brightness is adjustable which might be nice to avoid too much brightness for the astigmatism. Any input is greatly appreciated When I look through a red dot, I see pretty much what is in the right picture. I did once look through a C-more slideride though, and saw a very sharp and perfect large circle (I think it was minimum 10 moa)
  4. Had a good look at the videos, and it's pretty much what I'm trying to learn/get better at. The answer must be more practicing.
  5. Hi all I have been reading many topics without an account, but finally decided it was time to join in. Sorry for the long post ahead. I have been shooting olympic style .22 pistol for almost 10 years, but finally got bored with it and started shooting IPSC. I am shooting in the production division with a CZ shadow 2. I have been shooting IPSC for about a year, but I have probably fired as many shots in local matches (shot about 10-12) as I have in training due to limited range time. Anyway, being competitive of nature I decided I want to improve my shooting, so I bought Practical Pistol reloaded and Dryfire reloaded by Ben Stoeger. Currently I usually place decently in the local matches. During the last match I went to, I noticed a few problems in my shooting. There are many more things to improve of course, but these seemed to me like good starting points 1. draw is somewhat inconsistent. Once I hear the BEEP I stop thinking about the grip, and focus on executing my stage plan. I suspect my weak hand is not really doing much, and I could be gripping harder with my strong hand also. 2. inconsistent index. I noticed especially when doing reloads, my weak hand may not get into the same position on the gun, screwing up my index and slowing me down or giving bad hits. 3. the inconsistent index/grip eventually leading to "shooting faster than I can see". I suspect the good shooters, having consistent grips and all, will know exactly how long it takes the gun to return after the recoil, and be able to fire the next immediately as the gun is ready. With my inconsistent grip, I sometimes fire the 2nd shot too soon. On close targets it works fine, but on further targets often leads to C's or even D's. How did you all develop a consistent and hard grip? I expect the answer is to dry fire/draw a lot. Probably by slowing the draw down a lot (talking several seconds here) to ensure a good hard grip each time, and then gradually speeding things up. If I draw with emphasis on speed, I can still get on target in ok time (consistently <1.2s on 7 yard target), but I find that I forget to grip the gun hard, so in a match I will lose time on the other shots. Hopefully the index will develop itself along the way as the draw/grip improves? When I draw the gun, the sights are fairly aligned, but not 100% so on further targets I lose some time searching for the front sight. I feel like live-fire exercise is almost a waste of ammunition until the grip and index becomes more consistent. Any tips on improving the grip/index are greatly appreciated. I have access to some outdoor area for dryfiring, and have bought some mini IPSC targets also
