Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. I recently acquired some older STI mags. They won’t lock into my STI Edge. The cutout for the mag release seems much narrower than my other mags. Are there 2 styles? Wrong gun? What am I missing? Thanks
  2. There are only a couple clubs in area 7 capable of holding an area match. It's a challenge every year finding a venue. The good folks in Maine have hosted it the past couple years but can't do it every year. Harvard is one of the only other clubs that are big enough and luckily have agreed to host. Harvard has hosted many times and open and limited are always well represented.
  3. I'm so pissed at Buds gunshop right now. I had one but they just notified me they cancelled my order. My state has a 10 round limit but it's perfectly legal for FFL's to accept standard capacity mags. I even said to ship it with no mags if that makes them feel better. They said they won't do that either. they tried to read me my state laws over the phone but ironically left out some parts. Then disagreed with me when I corrected them. They said it was moot anyway since they sold the one on hold for me. So somebody got mine. Congratulations. Screw you Buds!!!!!! Just lost my business forever!!!
  4. The problem is, there are a lot of SO's who can't do either. And I'm not saying that you can't be a good SO if you aren't a great shooter. It's just that there are two big reasons people use the term Marksman SO. The first is that most really good shooters know the rule book inside and out and know how to shoot stages more efficiently while staying within the rules. Just because the SO hasn't thought of a way to shoot the stage or doesn't have the skill set to pull something off, doesn't mean you have to screw over the good shooters. I have seen many times, a SO yelling cover to a master shooter when they are at least two feet before arriving at the end of a wall. I called out one SO on it and his response was that "all you speed guys have to break cover at some point so I'm just going to call it". What kind of crap is that? Second and more importantly, some SO's who have zero chance of winning, think that nailing a better shooter is is some sort of badge of honor. They can't win so they find joy in making sure others don't win either. I have on more than one occasion, overheard a SO bragging to his buddies about giving a master class shooter a procedural. Really? that's the highlight of the match for you? There is no room for that in any officiated sport. And as GOF said, and what IDPA HQ really doesn't seem to understand, is that some of us devote significant time, money and resources to practice, get better, and perform well at matches. All of that is thrown away when we get screwed by a poor judgement call or someone who has no knowledge or understanding of the rules.
  5. My point is not to ban uprange starts. El prez and other classifiers have targets down range, not right near the 180. My point is what does it bring to that stage or other stages with targets near the 180. Absolutely nothing. If that stage started facing down range, would it be of less quality? No. Does starting up range increases the possibility of an unsafe act? Yes.
  6. Well, the uprange start is both common and traditional in action shooting. It utilizes basic competition skills. It's not a "DQ trap" - the competitor knows exactly what's expected and has (should have) practiced the movements. I know it's common. But I have seen my share of dq's and scary moments from up range starts. I'm sure lots of others have as well. What does it bring to the stage? Nothing. Why is turning around an essential competition skill? That's like saying an essential competition skill is learning to touch your heels to a painted letter X on a stick.
  7. This is my gripe with stage designers. Why start facing up range? What does it bring to that stage other than a DQ trap?
  8. I'm all for it. I have had a Glock with a slide mounted J-point for a number of years. Never a place to shoot it except some local steel matches. A lot of shooters I know would love to get into open but can't justify the cost of a good open gun. But most have a production type gun laying around and could afford a couple hundred bucks for a slide mounted optic.
  9. Very well spoken. Having the Nationals out west for so many years has excluded a lot of members from shooting it.
  10. No one argues that you lose fine motor skill under extremely high stress situations. What people argue is that moving your thumb from up to down is such a much more precise fine motor skill than aligning sights, pulling a trigger without disturbing the sight picture, hitting a mag release button, or performing all the steps rquired to sling shot the slide as Duane described. It's just silly.
  11. I see evidence of it all the time. At almost every sanctioned Idpa match there will be an expert bumped to master just because of the number of people shooting expert class. It doesn't mean they have master class shooting ability, just that they were able to beat 9 other shooters on that particular day. They either get beat real bad in master class the next match or switch divisions.

    New magazine option

My regular mec-gars still hang up occasionally even after bending the mag release spring. Do these drop free more easily?
  13. I have shot Glocks almost exclusively for well over a decade. I had tried M&P's, 1911's and I couldn't get away from the Glock. I bought a Shadow Target a couple months ago after reading so many good reviews. I was worried about the double action too but it is really becoming a non-issue. It is so light and smooth that I hardly notice and I have only put about 800 rounds through it so far. With the CGW springs the DA pull is less than 5 pounds and the SA under 3 pounds and better than any Glock trigger I have shot. Plus the extra weight makes it shoot incredibly flat.
