  1. Thanks for the response Joe4D. That is pretty much what I did today. I cleaned and lubed it and went to a 12 pound spring that came with it. I took it out and ran 160 rounds of ammo through it including a 100 rounds of Winchester white box flat point. I had only one failure to feed and that may have been caused by me shooting a little too fast and letting the gun jump around in my hand. After that I ran over a 100 rounds through it without fail.
  2. I have a new Tanfoglio Limited custom in 40 S&W that I purchased several months ago. I have shot it very little but have been having problems with it from the start. I Have tried a few factory brands with it as well as my hand-loads. It seems to function best with one of my hand-loads which is a little on the warm side with a hollow point bullet. I also occasionally get a stove pipe. but that may just be with a weaker hand load. It has the original recoil spring in it that came from the factory. Also, when racking the slide it is stiff and gritty. Where do I start to try to fix the problem? I have watched Memphis Mechanics videos but don't have the time to do all that work myself right now.
  3. I have not even been to one of these matches yet and I can say, without doubt, that I have one of the very best setups for this game. I have an F250 Super Duty Crew Cab with a cap on the bed. If that isn't enough room I also have a 16' V-nosed box trailer that is made for haulin' motorcycles or snowmobiles. This rig has hauled me, my daughter and 3 very large cowboys and all our gear to some very distant Cowboy Action Matches. This is one area where I know I have the right gear. I doubt that you guys haul any more gear than I do when I am shooting Cowboy Action Matches. I know there is at least one guy sittin there goin do you haul 5 rifles, 5 shotguns and 10 pistols to a match for yourself when you know you only get to shoot one of each? Yes. I am that guy. I will admit I need the other 3 guys to help with the gas money though.
  4. IPSCDRL, thanks for the offer but I am in Maine. I might make it down your way this summer for a match or two though. Do you shoot over at Harvard Sportsmans Club? I have shot Cowboy Action Matches there and, I understand, they have 3 gun matches there as well. Well, it kinda sounds like I will keep my factory plastic stock for now until I figure what is best for me. At least it will get me started and should not hinder me much, if at all. I am going to get one of the DMW EZ loaders and the Magazine tube extenders to make mine a 10 rounder. What do you guys think of the Tactical bolts? Are they a must or do they just get caught on a lot of things like one guy suggested. I will either leave my sights as is or I may go ahead and get a ghost ring rear. I already know that I like these cause I have shot them before. I don't think I will go with optics on the shotgun or the handgun at this time cause, as I understand it, that will put me in a different class. I guess I need to figure out what I need to carry all the shotgun rounds, handgun mags and pistol mags now. I suppose that if worse came to worse I would show up at my first match with oneof my cowboy shotgun belts, they hold 20 rounds each and, I have a bandolioer that holds 50, that oughta do it.
  5. I want get started in some of the local 3 gun competitions and I would like to know what I need for the rifle and if the 2 ARs that I currently own are suited to the job. The first gun is an Oy Arms PCR-16, flat top with a free float tube, Mark Brown custom rear sight and a flip up front sight. I also have a Leupold 4x12 with Mil dot reticle that I can mount on it. The other rifle is an Oympic match Target model with at least a 20 inch and probably a 24 inch barrel on it. I really can't remember right now. I suspect that that rifle is probably too heavy for this game. Now, I know some of you guys don't like Olympic guns but, mine seem to work fine for me right now and, it is what I have. If I get into this and they fail to function I will upgrade to something like a Bushmaster, RRA, S&W, DPMS or what have you. For now I would like to know what you guys think I need to start and How I should set up my rifle. I realize that I will need a bunch of mags that work in my gun but, beyond that what do you guys consider basic equipment/setup.
  6. This is great info. I came to this site to ask the same question. I did notice however that there was no mention of aftermarket stocks and very little talk about after market sights. My gun is a newer 1100 with the same matte black finish that all the 870 Expresses seem to come with these days and it has the synthetic stocks as well. So , these are a few of the questions I still have. 1) What are the most popular aftermarket stocks and why. 2) Do most of the 3 gunners use pistol grip stocks on there shotguns or not. What if any advantage is there to a pistol grip stock in this game. 3) Someone mentioned tweeking the focing cone and, by this, I believe he meant tapering the forcing cone so as to reduce recoil. Do I have this right? 4) Does anyone sell a mag tube extension that will match the finish on my gun? 5) What are the most popular sight set ups and why. I kinda thought that ghost rings might be real popular, am I wrong? My current barrel is either 26 or 28 inches long and for the time being I slapped on a set of Hi - Viz sights, front and rear, just for quick aquisition. I haven't even shot it so I dont how it works for me yet. 6) Do I need a sling and, if so, do I want one that attaches front and rear or something that atches in one spot like some guys use on their ARs? Yes, I am a newbie and I haven't even been to a match but, because the shooting season is pretty short here in New England, I wanted to get a jump start by having all my gear redy to go by spring.
