D.Hayden
On a new 16" DPMS, with the GlacierGuards... I can not get these guards off, what's the trick? I have to be forgetting something .. to make it easier, the frontsight/gas block is off (putting on a JP adjustable), the gas tube is out, they should just slide out, right? I'm pulling down the collar, where it seems I can see all the way around the guards..
stingerjg
If the front sight assy is off, there should be nothing holding the handguards on. Then should fall free. Unless, DPMS put some adheasive on the handguards.
D.Hayden
Thanks.. I can spread the top of the guards about 2-3 inches... I can not see anything that's holding them there. Just wanted to make sure there's not some secret pin, or d-ring or something, and then break them at that point.

I can spread the top gaurds about 1/4 to 3/8" of an inch.. but the bottoms will not budge.
stingerjg
has the front handguard cap been removed?
D.Hayden
yes. I can seperate the front about 1/2".. see the split go all the way down to the ring.
stingerjg
some of the newer handguards have a raised portion for more contact area on the rear of the handguards. my bet is they are just really tight. Can u move the delta ring to the rear?
D.Hayden
Yup... all the way down, it looks like I can see the base of the handguards. It's very tight, but that ring is maxed.
stingerjg
Id go ahead and see if you can give slight force to remove them. The shouldnt be stuck on there, they are prob just really tight cause they have never been removed.
pisgahrifle
Mine are kinda tight, but I've never had a problem like this. I'd start gently tapping the very top of each handguard forward from the delta ring end until they start to ease free.
D.Hayden
Thanks both, finally got them off. It was like one of the guards was welded onto the barrel nut. The 3/4" long piece that broke, can barely be seen, and the guards feel tight when they're back on. I'll be putting on a free float eventually anyway...
