Yep, the first time I shipped one I made the same mistake, only after the fact did I find out that my FFL charges around $30

Same here and if they do, they want about as much if not more. Then ship when they get the time.

That works for me with people I know well. For people I do not know I want to go through an FFL, $20.00 gets me piece of mind. Shipping to an FFL is safe and easy but I can understand not wanting to deal with the costs.

I am very lucky.  My FFL doesn't charge for outbound shipments; I just pay him the cost of shipping.  He charges me $25 for receiving guns.  If you need a guy in Northern Virginia, let me know.
