Foot Issues - Plantar Fasciitis?

Recommended Posts

Felt something tear in my foot doing Crossfit (yea fitness!) about 10 weeks ago. Thought it was plantar fasciitis which I have had before, but not sure now. Going to Doc on Thursday.

First it was just heel pain, but then it sort of moved all around my foot and my Achilles is stiff and sore. Anyone ever experience anything like this?

I had different foot issues and messed around with 3 podiatrists for two years. Hurt so bad I stayed in my chair and wheeled it around the office. Went to a foot surgeon and he sent me to a specific doctor at the Cleveland Clinic. They were unreal. They diagnosed it as something horse get. They made special inserts for my shoes and the problem went away. At this point I don't have high regards for podiatrists.

Generally agree re podiatrists. I am going to my orthopedic surgeon. He is a shoulder specialist and did my shoulder (yeah another Crossfit injury) a couple of years ago with great results. Going to get his opinion on foot before seeing a specialist.

Well doc said I had partial tear/strain of plantar and achilles. Basically just need more time to heal. Prescribed orthopedic shoe inserts and topical anti-inflammatory. I'll give them both a try plus take it easy for a couple more months.

Anyone have any experience with shoe inserts?

I suffered from plantar fasciitis that would not heal. I went to an athletic shoe store and they video taped my gate and put me in shoes that would correct my over pronation and some inserts. This helped within days. There are different size inserts that you need to be fitted to.

Not a huge fan of inserts. Maybe the ones I have are to thick, but it makes me feel like my feet are riding to high in the shoe. What type of inserts?

They are are some type of custom inserts. Supposedly better than ones you buy at Walmart etc.

check these out as well. After foot surgery, these are the only ones that allow me to stay mobile fro long periods of time.

Orthotics are the first choice to correct the problem. They usually work. They are designed to provide some support for your arch and the heal is raised. The reason for the raised heal is to unload the stretch on the calf muscle when your opposite leg passes over center when walking. The main cause for the issue is to tight calf muscles. Ask the Pedorthist for the name of a good Physical Therapist specializing in foot issues. Once you feal better for a while contact the therapist and have them start you on a stretching program. This will be the way to keep the issue from coming back.

I have, a couple of years ago.

I went to the Doctor and was diagnosed as haveing Plantar Fasciitis.

He injected me with Prednisone and it helped a little, but not much, and certainly not as much as my insurance helped him.

Anyway, long story short, I lost a bunch of weight and it went away on its own. Funny how they (the Doctors) never mention that.

Yeah, I suspect that might be part of my problem as well...?

I have suffered from plantar fasciitis several years ago. Damn it is painful. I was at a trade show and a person saw me hobbling around and he knew what was wrong. He suggested wearing cowboy boots, I guess it has something to do with how the foot position is. I tried it and it actually worked! I also wear salomon shoes, which they advertise help with plantar fasciitis.

The orthotics have a lift in them - similar to wearing boots. Something about lifted shoes reduces the strain. Don't know the mechanics but the doc mentioned it.

What has helped me most is an anti-inflammatory cream/pain killer that the doc prescribed. It is compounded and you rub it on couple times a day.

Getting better slowly....

Western boots are deadly for me. I have several very expensive pairs but can only tolerate them for a few days a year with large recovery periods for me. Sneakers with my orthotics help the most. My issues stated in my teens and get worse every year.

I had a total Achilles tear 15 years ago, then about 5 years ago started having Plantar Fascitits problems. Dr. told me about the calf stretch, and that I was prone to PF since I have a shortened and tighter than normal Achilles. It was a bitch for over a year, but it slowly straightened out. Tendons do not have a natural blood supply, so are very slow healing. There are new treatments like stem cell and platelet rich plasma injections. Big $$$ though.

Just a thought. There are boots designed to be worn while sleeping. They maintain a small stretch while sleeping. They help you heal faster.

the Strasbourg (sp??) sock.  I used this for six months.  Along with orthotics and never walking barefoot, I am running 20 miles per week again

Ordered one! Will see how it works. I am getting better. Stretching plus orthotics plus anti-inflammatory cream seems to be doing the trick.
