Bones2586
Good day all - Being a decent shooter in Production and Limited 10 Divisions, I've recently ventured into the Carry Optics Division...sort of. I had a Trijicon RM07 (6.5 MOA) fall into my lap (good deal), so picked it up. No pistol to put it on yet, so backwards to start off (maybe?). Thoughts on a pistol to mount the optic on are: FNS-9L - would have to mill the slide, get the mount plate, etc...Top half of the FNS slide isn't as wide as the RMR, so may be "funny looking" and odd to shoot (don't know). Unsure if the FN slide can even be milled, based on how it's made and the internals of the slide... M&P 40L CORE version - Like it, regularly shoot the M&P 40 Pro Series (4.25" barrel) in Prod/L10 divisions, have the mags and set-up (unless different holster is needed due to the 5" barrel of the CORE version. M&P 9 CORE - minor PF only (so far), new to me 9mm vice the .40SW for USPSA, would require all new set-up and extra mags, etc. Anything else... Looking for advice from the experienced CO shooters and anyone else's thoughts on it, as am not set one way or another. And have time to decide, not in a huge rush to run out and get something "tomorrow". Thanks in advance all! Cheers!
jcc7x7
If going with plastic guns, go with the guns that are already cut for optics. Just easier! Springfield OSP in my current toy but I've used the M&P and the Glock MOS All the above have a lot of aftermarket support the FN not so much
floater
I know nothing about the FN, but if you already shoot M&P the core would make the switch a lot smoother.
kipdynamite
If I had to choose from those 3, I'd go with the M&P 9mm already able to accept the RMR. A little more investment upfront, but cheaper ammo. less recoil to get dot back on target, more ammo in the 140mm mags. 40 offers no advantage in this division. stick
If you already have the M&P you can just get a dovetail adapter for the gun. If you decide Carry optics isn't for you, its easy to replace by just putting the rear sight back in. The mount I use on my M&P is the outerimpact. rooster
I did what Stick did to my g17. Works good and you can go back. I like the look of a milled slide but didn’t want to ruin my oem slide. I just bought an aftermarket slide which I am going to have milled. So that’s another option. More cost but if screws break or tapped holes get ruined by the slide action you haven’t destroyed your oem slide. We had a guy at our last match that the screws on his slide wallowed out and his optic literally fell off the gun.

Bones2586
Thanks all! Common theme from your advice is leaning towards the M&P, 9 over .40SW. Slide already cut, used to the ergonomics of the M&P series, lots of aftermarket goodies available... Throw a monkey wrench in the thoughts/research, anyone shooting the Sig X-Five? Have heard good things about that platform as well! Too many options...decisions!!
jcc7x7
X-5 is real nice, I shot a friends and it handled wonderfully. BUT IF I was going to spend that kind of money I'd go with a Tanfo and do it up. A local guy to me has done one, HE's on Benos "Zoombywolf" I think is his code name. His Tanfo is much nicer than the X-5 IMO

zzt
As mentioned above, put a dovetail adapter and your RMR on the M&P 40 and give it a go. You can download the 40 to minor and it works just fine. The only thing you give up is mag capacity. Not that big a deal. Later, if you fall in love with CO, you can decide whether the extra three rounds in a mag is worth all the investment in all new stuff. I shoot minor 40 for Steel Challenge. I used to shoot 40 major for Limited, but now I shoot it in Open. I can count on one hand (with fingers left over) the number of times the extra three rounds in a mag would have been advantageous. zombywoof
75B should be easy, much like my Witness Steel top pic. It weighs 42 ounces with optic and mag. Stock ll weighs 44.5 ounces. Weight limit is 45 ounces. Pretty heavy.
SlvrDragon50
Go CZ or Tanfo. Should make weight pretty easily. I've tried the 320RX, and it's not bad, but I very much prefer shooting steel. Edited February 16, 2018 by SlvrDragon50
OPENB
I like steel too. Tanfo Limited Pro is/was an excellent CO gun. With a Deltapoint on a Primary Machine mount & Taylor Freelance extended bases pads to bring capacity to 23+1, mine weighs 44.5oz. I just finished building a CZ Shadow SP01 with the same set up, & it weights the same. I think I prefer the large frame LimPro, though.
HCH
Go with the one you’re most comfortable with. I spent $50 on a mounting plate for my FF3 on my G17 and have had no problems whatsoever.
Bones2586
Appreciate all the advice folks, have learned about several different ways to go. I'll keep the post updated once I decide, and share a pic of the set-up! Cheers! Safe shooting to all!
dogtired
I have been playing with the CO guns. CORE currently has RMR. Nice Steel EAA witness, very good shooter. And the ultimate package, CZ sp01 with CZ custom optic plate. Edited February 16, 2018 by dogtired

If you are very serious about making a run in CO, I would suggest getting a Shadow 2 as they can make weight now with the new CO rules pertaining to slide milling. robertg5322
You can also probably load M&P .40 mags with 9mm. Test to make sure, but I've done it and seen it done with no problems. That would save a few bucks if you stay with the M&P.
