Sport Pistol powder

News to me. I've gone through about 4 lbs. at this point. Not a problem.

I load True Blue without any issue also and it is finer grained than SP.

Maybe there is more variation in powder measure performance than there should be?

Sounds like you might want to have Dillon replace the spacer or powder bar. It's not fine enough to have been leaking and that problem will only get worse over time.

I'd call Dillon, cellophane is not a proper solution for any press let alone a Dillon...

Oh, forgot to mention I spoke with Dillon regarding ASP being extruded and not spherical. They said it was well within the norm for the small powder bar and should not have problems with consistent powder drop as long as that entire station is kept clean and properly adjusted.

Oh hey, I never posted my results! Everything was shot through a Competition Electronics chrono with an indoor lighting kit at 10 feet. The guns used were a 5" RIA 1911 and a 6" Chiappa Charging Rhino. The speed tended to be lower with the Rhino and the ES/SD was higher – this is expected, as it's blowing more gas out of the sides of the gun and I'm guessing the chambers aren't perfectly uniform.

 

ES's might be a little high overall as I was adjusting the powder in the same run (though I did dump a case or two after every charge weight change).

this one- is VV N320-

 

4.6 gr- 115 FMJ PD- 1.130 OAL- 141.86 PF   Very close to the SP- but felt softer shooting-

I've been shooting Alliant Sport Pistol since August 2017. Before that I shot VV N320 and Prima V. I tried SP because N320 was sporadic in availability and Prima V had some inconsistencies between lots. SP has been consistent and clean burning. As far as soft shooting I couldn't tell any difference when power factors are similar. Accuracy has been very good with all bullets I've tried. Below is some data from my last test with a chronograph.

Have been pretty hyped up after hearing so many good reports from those shooting SP and consequently decided to get some to try! I called every place I could find within an hour drive and I couldn't find any locally! So... I went back the charts to see what was close until it became available in my area. Pretty bummed out... Then right after lunch I receive a call from a lgs who said they ordered it for me :cheers:

Muncie21 thats a good question. This is just a by product of a situation that caused me to verify my speeds across my Caldwell chronograph. I have a magneto speed with an adapter for Picatinny rail. I was able to shoot my CZ for muzzle velocity with the magneto speed and than shoot through my other chronograph for my velocity at distance. There are several sites on the web you can use with known measurements to calculate your BC. However, different sites will give you different numbers. I just picked one and went with it. Not that it makes any difference at the distances I shoot at.

I use a 650--  loaded over 200 rounds- no powder seeping out

Only way to really find out will be to shoot some and see how it recoils, or find a burn rate chart from Alliant.

It'll be interesting to find out. It does however seem to be very close to the same recipe that I now use with TG... Just picked up a bottle today and had a call back from another lgs I called last week saying they just got some in so it is beginning to surface. Hope to load and chrono some this weekend if not raining...

I'm finally switching to reloading 9mm and the SP looks ideal. I have 147 BBI flat points on the way; thinking I'll start at around 3.2gr and work my way up.

I have been using Alliant Sport Pistol and Acme Coated 9MM 147 flat point and am using 3.2 gr and OAL of 1.110 and get around 129 Power Factor. Shooting a CZ Shadow2

Good to know. My brother in law has a Tanfoglio and I'm not sure if my 1.114 rounds will chamber in his; I'll drop to 1.110 if they don't work.

My 9mm 1911 chambers literally everything, haha.

Thanks, it really dialed in pretty quick. It's the same 3.2 charge I've been using with TG, but SP is a softer shoot though. Going to pick up another bottle tomorrow and shoot this stuff for a while and see. Actually going to shoot in a local match tonight which hopefully will give me a guess at what to expect.
