Not for nothing, but Sport Pistol data shows it doing 9mm minor and .40 major perfectly. ;)

However, it fails to make Minor for .38 Special. Hell, it doesn't even make ICORE's minimum out of a 6" barrel.

It looks very comparable to Trail Boss for .44 Special, just a few FPS faster.

I can only speak for the guns I own but during testing it in 9 and .40 it was equal to N320 and just a tick quicker in 9mm in comparison. Have you actually loaded and shot any of it or are you going by the Lawyered up load data?

Did they mess up Prima V?  I know the newer stuff is a tad slower but it works good for me. I'm down to three bottles left.  Gonna be ordering something, not sure what, soon. Maybe ba 9.5. Want soemtning that'll do 9 and .40.

Oh yeah, they screwed up the second batch by making it slower. I was very happy with the first batch that came in, it was clean and did not smoke. I purchased a good quantity of it after I ran through the first batch and as soon as the weather got a little humid it smoked like a freight train and to get it to clean up I had to get up to 135 PF. Don't get me wrong, it plenty usable but if they had left it alone I would still be using it and perfectly happy. Clean Shot didn't do any better in the Summer conditions, I had to look under the smoke to see my target. Sport Pistol does not have this problem so for me it is the hands down winner.

I've got the slower batch so I never got spoiled.I dont like coated so don't have the smoking issues but im looking for a powder that does minor amd major. I may look into sport pistol.

Nope, haven't bought any yet. That's why I was hoping for some real world insight.

I guess it's possible that it'll go the 100+ FPS over the stated load data I need to make PF. I'll probably stick to my other powders for now.

Here is some data from my recent range trip testing Alliant Sport Pistol. The more I shot and load this powder, the more I am liking it. It's cleaner than Prima V. Very close to N320. It seems to be more consistent than N320 and every bit as accurate possibly more accurate. I will need to do a side by side comparison to know for sure.

Thanks. What was the cartridge length? The Alliant data showed that with 3.5  and a 145 bullet that they were at over 140pf but it was loaded to 1.1 I believe so your use of more powder to get less pf is a bit of a surprise given the 10gn difference in bullet weight.

My COAL is 1.120". The bullet weight makes the biggest difference in velocity. My first test loads were loaded at 1.110". I don't remember what the velocity of those particular loads were, I do know there wasn't a big difference though.

Looks like I'll get to try this stuff after all!

I'm finally switching to reloading 9mm and the SP looks ideal. I have 147 BBI flat points on the way; thinking I'll start at around 3.2gr and work my way up.

Does anyone have a COL they'd recommend?

I went into my local reloading shop to see if they had some yesterday and he didn't so I asked him and he hadn't heard of it. I told him about the positive experience others here have had with 9 & 40 with it and he was super cool and ordered four 1# bottles to put on his shelves to try it out. As soon as it comes in he is going to call me so I can pick up a bottle to try. It was my first time ever in that shop. Now that is customer service! ???

Looking at the online load data from Alliant and Hodgdon, Sport Pistol seems to be very similar to Win 231/Hodgdon HP-38.  I've done a little testing in 45 ACP and Sport PIstol performs much like Win 231 with light loads in that cartridge.

The Sport Pistol granules are also about the same size as those for Win 231 - maybe a little smaller.  I'm going to test to see how the two powders compare in density.

I finally was able to make it to the range to load test Alliant Sport Pistol with 147 grain Missouri HI TEK coated bullets. I was able to test 2 loads 3.3 grains and 3.4 grains. Shot 4 for the 3.3 grain load is suspect. I am using a Caldwell G2 chronograph and I forgot to hit the start button on my phone so i did not capture the first string which was 12 shots and the SD was a lot tighter.

I hope it's a clean burner it seems like every powder out there says clean burning lol.

I noticed that as well.  I guess creates a Horrific 911 type smoke cloud and requires more cleanup than category 5 Hurricane does not market that well.

I finally got to try it in 9mm and really like it. 3.4gr behind a 147gr SNS coated RN made power with room to spare (I want to say about a 136 - need to find my notebook). Nice recoil impulse and very accurate.

I found it a little smokey but I wouldn't call it "bad". I shoot Trail Boss with bare lead though so my scales are probably off.

I finally got out to the range with the Chrono yesterday.

The results are in Microsoft EXCEL format and attached here.

These are the 9mm loads, I'll put the 40 loads in that thread.

I tested 125gr BBI and 135gr Blue Bullet through a CZ P10C and STI Eagle 5" - both with OEM barrel.

Brass was RP  once fired and Remington 1 1/2 primer.

Each pistol is saved as its own file and the bullets are split across tabs at the bottom.

I've been shooting 3.3 grs with the 147 acme fp and getting 135 pf out of a g-34 with a kkm barrel, 2.1/8" at 25 yards rested. Really liking this load. Also Getting 125 pf out of my sig 320 compact with good accuracy.

Has anyone tried a .45 ACP load with this yet? I'm wondering how far I can power it down since I only need about 750 to safely make Major with a 230gr bullet. Alliant's data indicates a max load that will do 900 and change but they don't have any starting load data.

Edit: Just remembered which forum this was posted in. I'm a dummy, lol.

I would start at 4.5 grs and go from there if it was me.

I’ve shot a few thousand rounds of this stuff and am sold. Meters well, doesn’t spill too much when advancing my 1050, clean, and negligible flash when matches run late (finished the GA Championship in the dark). I loaded a bunch of N320 right before shooting SP and couldn’t tell a difference.

4.05 gr. behind a Precision Delta 124 gr. JHP @ 1.1” gets me 130 PF from my Shadow 2.

I totally agree. About the only difference i can tell between the 2 powders is how they look and the price. Other than that ATK has made a great clone on N320. I am sold.

Yeah, 8# of Sport Pistol costs the same as 4# of N320, so…

Limited chrono data but...

Using 3.3 grains as max, so most throws between about 3.25 and 3.30...

With Blue Bullets 147 RN, which weigh out at 150 or just a bit heavier, at 1.125 COL...

I'm seeing around a 133 PF (using 150 for PF computations) out of an 5" M&P with a 5" Apex barrel.

Hope that helps.

I've also used same basic load with Prima V and they are very close.

I think the sport pistol might be a little cleaner, hard to say. I like them both.
