Power Factor

Is there a minimum power factor for divisions in steel challenge? Do limited shooters shoot .40 like they do for USPSA? Can't seem to find anything specific about this anywhere

There is no major or minor scoring, only time to complete required hits. A lot of serious competitors seem to prefer light weight bullets at a crisp speed. Seems in years past I read somewhere that a minimum floor power factor of 100 was required but I've never seen it checked.

No power factors. Our only limitation is for PCC and that is a maximum velocity of 1600 FPS.

Back when they used hard wired stop plates to stop the timers, gamers preferred faster rounds to minimize the time from muzzle to the plate on the last shot. 

 

I've not shot and bigger matches in years but they may still do it this way.

 

I was never good enough for it to matter.

Most shoot 9mm but no reason not to shoot what you want if you aren’t in contention to win fame and fabulous prizes.

I shoot my Limited gun with sub-minor loads.  Runs great.  I don't feel at all handicapped using a 40.  It shoots flatter and softer than a 9mm.  One gent shoots a .357 Sig.  Why?  That's what he has.  I also see a lot of 45s.  The nice thing about steel is anything you shoot rings it.

Mostly 9mm, but there are lots of .40's out there (usually in Limited with downloaded PF ammo).  With the Open class you'll still find 38 Supers.  For most folks it's shoot what you have.

I shoot a 45 in Single Stack. The rest is 9mm.

Where I shoot, a lot of people shoot rimfire.

I shoot 9mm even in SS simply because I have a 9mm Dan Wesson. I used to shoot down loaded 9x23mm out of an old IPSC L10 gun in Limited but use one of my Glock 34 configurations these days.

When I shoot steel, it's just to get some trigger time - don't really feel steel

is my favorite type of shooting, just better than nothing that weekend.

 

So, I unlimber my STI TruBor with 9mm Major loads and let loose.

I've tried using lighter loads in my TruBor, but POI changes, and I

end up with Major and Minor rounds mixed together at the bottom

of my shooting bag.  So, I stick with Major rounds.

 

The RO's don't really enjoy it too much, but, that's what I got
