Tubguy
Broncman so which brand of drill bit did you use. Was it a carbide bit. Also, did use a standard tap? Thank you
Broncman
I used a carbide spade to get through the hard spot, then a Cobalt drill, and a HSS tap. The rest of the holes were easy. Used Magic Tap fluid. First drill bit was supposed to be HSS but was junk. When it dulled it worked hardened the spot. Tried resharpening it and it dulled immediately on a piece of scrap key stock. PaladinPrecision
For a slide, I wouldn't even think of cutting into one with less than a coated / crio treated HSS, I would default to a nice carbide drill bit with a lower angle cutting point. The steel is just too hard to bother trying to drill with HSS imo. Ain't no body got time for that.
