Beretta 92s, How do they work?

Hi all, I'm trying to understand how the 92 works.

As I get it, under recoil, the barrel and the slide begin moving backwards. The plunger depresses the locking block, which then disengages the barrel from the slide. The slide continues moving rearward, extracting the shell, ejecting it, then slides forward, stripping and loading a new round.

Assuming I have that right, what keeps the barrel "back" after the locking block disengages? Is there a spring or some such?
