SlvrDragon50
Forgive my incredible noobishness... but I don't know much about ARs. I am planning on piecing together my AR and already have a list of components, but I am wondering if I still need to buy an LPK if I am buying a trigger, safety, takedown/pivot pins, mag release, and bolt catch. Flatland Shooter
A complete lower parts kit will include, in addition to the parts you listed, the pins, screws and springs needed to complete your lower. You can buy each of the individual parts or save a few bucks and get the complete kit. They are not that expensive and it won't hurt to have a few spare parts on hand. Take a look at this kit from Brownells. It shows all the parts needed. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/parts-kits/lower-parts-kits/ar-15-lower-parts-kit-prod24955.aspx

I saw a lot of those kits, and I wasn't sure if those parts would be thrown out with the inclusion of a drop in trigger (Hiperfire 24C).
ChuckS
You can get a LPK minus the fire control stuff. Like this: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/parts-kits/lower-parts-kits/ar-15-lower-parts-kit-5-56-prod85959.aspx

Does the brand matter much? I see CMMG, CMC, Joe Bob Outfitters, DPMS, etc. for the budget brands. Same question for buffer tubes. Only thing I've seen is to avoid 6061 tubes. Flatland Shooter
I've read that most of the kits have parts made by the same manufacturers so it probably does not matter much. When I see a good deal, I'll pick up one or two for spares. Last purchase was the CMMG LPK at a LGS for under $30. I've not read much on buffer tubes other than mil-spec versus civilian (different tub diameters). But for what its worth, I've never had a buffer tube failure. MustangMan
If you are wanting to do different grip, trigger, trigger guard. Check out Midway, they have a kit that is all the small pieces minus though I listed for $20.

Actually, this kit should work right? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/225996/ar-stoner-ar-15-lower-receiver-pin-and-spring-parts-kit It has all the springs and detents. Although for $10 more, it's not much to get all those extra pieces. Plus I'd have to buy a mag catch still which is ~$10. MustangMan
Yep that is the kit I've used a couple times now because I don't use most of the parts in a normal lpk. That spring kit is another good option too if you're going to use aftermarket everything, I'll actually be using that same spring kit in the near future as I build a rifle to use in competition.
