Hi-Power Jack
Just shot my new AR .223, for the 2nd time, with four different brands of ammo. All shot well (Aguila, WW 45 gr, Federal Bulk and Federal American Eagle -FAE) -- all are 55 grain ammo except the WW, which is 45 grains). I could "show clear" with three of them, but NOT with the FAE ????? Lubed the heck out of the BCG, and sprayed the interior of the gun twice while I shot 125 rounds - everything worked GREAT. EXCEPT, couldn't show clear with the FAE. I shot 20 rounds of WW first and it was perfect. Then I shot 20 rounds of Aguila - perfect. Tried the FAE, and Nothing - charging handle wouldn't budge (I didn't bother with the mortar maneuver - It fired out of the gun). Then I tried the Federal Bulk - perfect. Sprayed more lube into the works, and tried them all again - same results. Anyone ever had a problem like that? Any solution (besides staying away from FAE?)..... Steve RA
Easiest would be to stay away from that brand, or at least that particular flavor, since the bulk worked OK for you.
DesertTortoise
Give the chamber a really good cleaning. I know new melonite coated barrels require this. After you clean it really well I'll bet you'll have no problemSent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk

Steve RA
A chamber brush works pretty well.
Hi-Power Jack
Thanks, Steve & Desert, I'll give it a try - I'll try some Hoppes #9 with the brush Anyone ever had a situation like this = three brands work fine and one brand sticks in the chamber (still fires, but very hard to unload a live round)? Steve RA
Coat a live round with a black Magic Marker and run it in - then remove it (not by firing) and see where it appears to be hanging up. Probably be easier to do after cleaning the chamber. Or you can measure one and one of the "bulk" ones and see if you can detect a difference in the measurements. PatriotMRD
Never had that happen with any brass cased ammo. Only with some steel cased on one of my rifles with a particularly tight chamber. I've shot thousands of rounds of American Eagle without issue.

kurtm
I'm pretty sure that shooting the crap out of an American Eagle is some kind of Federal crime. :-) A.E. is great stuff, but every gun is different!
