Wow...funky. Ya, I could see where that would be an issue.
RaylanGivens
Hard to figure out why a manufacturer would create a case like this... The additional brass has to make the case more expensive than any other 9mm case... The only reason I can see is to stop reloaders...
Unibrain
No idea why they do it but I throw it all away. I had a separation that got stuck in the bore of my gun and it was a major pain to remove. I have the two pieces stuck to a shelf above my loading bench as a reminder to check every case. TANFARM
My 650 encountered the first Maxxtech crap round. Sure enough stepped big time. Locked the press up. I'll be putting this in the Crap pile with, FM, Hotshot, CBC and other trash....... Back to sorting this large batch by headstamp.......frustrating....... I load it on mine with no problem.
TANFARM
It locked the press up because of the internal step in the brass....how did you die get past the step to,deprime the case???

Not all stepped brass is created equally, the height of the step vary between brands. On Ammoload and IMT, I can run them through the sizing die with no problems. (but they never get that far anymore, they are in the scrap bucket first )

Sarge
I guess I need to see a maxxtech. Not sure I have loaded any of those but all the other stepped brands go through my dies just fine. But I do use LEE and EGW Udies though.

hceuterpe
Freedom Munitions also came out with brass plated, steel case ammo. https://www.freedommunitions.com/9mm-luger-115-gr-rn-steel-new.html. Between the stepped cases and this nonsense, I refuse to buy from Xtreme[emoji19]Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
echotango
The brass plated are easier to spot. They turn pink when I wet tumble. Worse case is my magnet will pick it up on the case feeder tube and stop sending cases.
Steve RA
If you run a magnet thru your brass when you get it you can catch all the steel cases early in the process.

I don't understand how this locked your press up. I have hit them and yes it's like hitting a wall. I just slightly lower the ram(not enough to rotate the shellplate) then knock the piece out with my finger and continue on.
TANFARM
Perhaps my phrasing was incorrect...it does not " lock up" the press..its just when the EGW die hits the stepped portion its like a brick wall.....that being said..it's crap brass for reloading..IMHO...9mm to plentiful for messing around with this stuff..... 2tuf4u
Recent Maxxtech 9mm range pick-up is brass w/o the step shoulder. I haven't reloaded so no opinion of quality.
thermobollocks
What in the world are they trying to accomplish? Shouldn't it be cheaper to just...make normal brass?

jhgtyre
It seems that the company that makes Maxxtech ammo also makes blanks and other non-lethal 9mm ammo. Perhaps that is the reason for the step, at least in their case, they can use one case for multiple purposes? http://www.pobjeda-technology.com/ammunition/pistol/335-9mmlugerbrass
frankge
the tooling is cheaper than standard 9mm case tooling
