St. Louis Hotels

Recommended Posts

darkvibe

I'm heading down to Kansas to visit family then to St. Louis for a few days of vacation this summer and am looking for hotel recommendations that are in a nice and safe area.  I don't need a 5 star hotel, it's just a bed and shower.

I have looked near the St. Louis airport figuring hotels would be in a safe area.  Hotels are around $200 a night, not too bad.  Also found the River City Casino hotel for $160 a night.  No clue if that is a decent area.

I might be interested in staying in the suburbs to save some cash on the hotel but I don't want to end up in an area I will get mugged or have to run over protesters.  Found some hotels in Festus right on I-55 and over in Waterloo.  Are those areas OK or should I avoid them?

Any input would be appreciated.  Also, any advice on things to see and do would be great.  Already planning to see the brewery and City Museum.

South and West St.Louis County are the safer areas generally. Festus is too far south and Waterloo is too far east.  You don't need to go that far away. Up by the airport is generally not such a wonderful area nor is the River City Casino (although just a little south of that starts to get you into the better areas.  You'll still be right off of 55 if you go south and traffic is minimal on most days.  I would look around where 270 and 55 meet.  The Brewery is right off of 55 and is really a great attraction in my opinion.  Also, the Missouri Botanical Garden is one of the best in the world if you're into that sort of thing.  Our zoo is often rated #1 free attraction in the U.S. but I don't go there too often so I can't speak to that.  The Arch is cool and seeing a Cardinals game is fun if it isn't blazing hot (St .Louis summers can be just about as miserable as anywhere I've been).  All kinds of other things to do depending on what you're into.

Eat something on "The Hill" which is right by the Botanical Garden.  It's a famous Italian food area.  My favorite is going to Adriana's for lunch (not open for dinner) and asking Adriana to pick a meal for me that SHE would eat.  I've never left disappointed.  Lots of other really good food in St.Louis as well.

Hopefully that helps.

Thank you!

There is a Holiday Inn right where 270 and 55 cross.  $100 a night and looks to be a clean place.  Perfect.

I'm in St Louis several times a year and like the St Charles area.

I've stayed at the Comfort Inn at 1400 S 5th St, St Charles, MO 63301 and it is decent a fair price, lots of other hotels in the same area. I would be a bit of a drive to the downtown attractions, but the zoo, botanical gardens, etc are all a reasonable drive. The Ameristar Casino is nearby if you're into that. St Charles has a very cool historic downtown, and the new Streets of St Charles development has some nice restaurants, shops and a theater.

Also, if you're into classic cars at all check out Fast Lane on the north end of town: http://fastlanecars.com/

Can't argue with St.Charles being nice.  Definitely out of the way though and puts you on some of the more congested highways to get into the city.

Frontenac Hilton. Great location and a real step above the chains. At 40 and Lindbergh.

Thanks for this. 1 day left in our trip and the hotel location has worked out great.

I normally stay out in Collinsville, IL.  Generally around $80 a night and about 15-20mins from downtown.
