weapon mounted light legality

Firearms with custom or factory installed electronic sights, optical sights, compensators or

barrel porting are not allowed in this division.

 

this is the pistol rules for 3gn.  looking at those it seems like a weapon mounted light would be ok in all divisions operational or not.  A combo light/laser would be considered an electronic sight im guessing.

 

is this how others interpret the rules?

A flash light is not a sight or a compensater.

I've not had an issue running lights on my guns, but I've only shot local outlaw matches; so that probably doesn't mean much

Some matches don't allow adding weight to a handgun. A light on a handgun in the daytime equates to adding weight under some match director's rules. You should clarify with the director of the particular match that you will be attending ahead of time to be sure.

As far as 3GN rules go, you should be fine with a flashlight on your gun but the laser would be a no go.

The trick for limited is to add the light and fill it with lead, for the weight.  Can't answer for 3gn.
