How much do you spend a year on shooting?

Most people forget the price of driving to these matches and practice at the range -

If you drive 6,000 miles/year, the travelling (without tolls) is going to cost you

somewhere around $4,000/year for depreciation, maintenance, repairs, gas

& insurance.

PLUS, the cost of ammo, match fees and repairs/maintenance.

I was spending about $12,000/year a few years ago - including a trip to

the Nationals in Las Vegas (no gambling losses included).

Now, if I wanted to get into 3-gun - WHOA, that gets expensive.

I reload so I figure at most 2k. If powder comes back in maybe closer 2500

You must not shoot very much then :sight:

I have tree little kids, so I shoot one, maybe two matches a month and I easily spend $3K a year, not including the depreciation of guns and gear, gas etc.

Less than half what I used to spend on racing motorcycles. Probably more like 1/4.

Taking up shooting has really boosted my savings account and gotten me out of debt.

I'm sure it's $300/month or more, but most people spend more than that going out to eat, whereas I enjoy cooking.

Lets see...

- Powder

- Primers

- Bullets

- Springs

- Misc Gun Parts

- Match Fees

- Gas

- Food

- Lodging

- The occasional new gun

Adding it all up, I'm getting $94.85 per year. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

(If anyone sees my wife feel free to mention that I'm the only shooter you know who competes all year for less than a hundred dollars.)

I had to claim $1250 income from Glock last year so I'm saving every reciept for ammo, parts, etc (haven't even bought a gun this year, just parts and components).

I am scared to add it up at this point.
