9mm Major Load Data

Loaded up some TB today at 1.185 OAL. Liked the way it worked the comp compared to Sihlouette. I was chronoing at indoor range and they were all over the place as far as spread goes, so I don't trust my results. I'm going to hit the outdoor range tomorrow. It looks like for my shorty 8.0gr @ 1.185 with MG 124 JHP is going to be the ticket. I'll post my results soon as I have em.

08/24 2000 hrs

Loaded up a bunch more this time with once fired Speer nickel brass. Load was 8.0gr seated at 1.185. MG 124 JHP.

#1-1324, #2-1344, #3-1392, #4-1341, #5-1327,#6-1336,#7-1334,#8-1375,#9-1354,#10-1390

Average 1352, ES=67.83, SD=25.05 Power factor=167.6

The gun shoots very nicely and tracks well. These are indoor chrono results. Gun was a bit on the dirty side, although the comp wasn't as dirty as with Sihoulette. I'll shoot some outdoors tomorrow.

8/25 Took some to the outdoor range today, it was raining so the chrono wasn't cooperating to well.

#1-1331, #2-1380, #3-1371,#4-1366,#5-1349,#6-1345

Average=1357, ES=49 PF=168.2

Maybe I should trade in my chrono, even though it's a new replacement. With MG 124 gr. JHP, 1.65 OAL and 7.4 gr. of TB I'm getting a 166.5 pf with little spread. I just chronoed it again last weekend since it didn't make sense looking at what you guys are loading at. Could be the 5" barrel and no ports. I wouldn't think it would make that much difference, but who knows? But then, again, maybe I have a chrono reading low.

Newguy,

What brand of Chrono are you using?

Also try bumping your load .2 grains to 7.6. My 9 is a shorty with no barrel porting. Commander slide and the barrel is only 4.5". Also the difference between barrel manufacters and the chamber finising and barrel leade al can play a determining factor.

I'll probably chrono a few more times in the next couple of weeks to confirm my data before the Area 2 match. I'm a little concerned about the spread and reall don't see a reason for it. I will double chrono next time and I'll post the results.

Alan, it's an F1 Shooting Chrony. I'll try bumping up to 7.6 which will give me about a 170 pf on my chrono. The only problem is that the primers really flatten out a 7.6 while at 7.4 they have some roundness.

McOliver

7.2 leaves me about a .10" from the top of the case. While spillage can occur I am the odd one out on progressive presses. I have done all of my reloading on a RCBS Auto 4X4, so I have gotten to where I can place the bullet on top of the case as the shell plate indexes to the next position thereby reducing the chance of spillage. Due to the height of the True Blue and the ball shape I prefer the True Blue. I did not tell a difference betwen N350 and True bleu as dar as how the gun shot.

My Originial quest was to find as many powders that would work for major9 and provide that information. So if it came to not being able to find a specific powder I would have an established list to pick from and not have to work on load development say a week before a major match.

Paul-

Are you going to give one of Joey's guns a try this year? I think the N350/TrueBlue load is the cat's ass. It gives a really nice up/down dot track inside the lens, and flattened out very nicely as I reached 8.1 grains / 170pf. Because it was getting flatter (in a nice way) as I approached 8.0, it makes me wonder how well 7.4 in a 5" tracks....

If I had some video software, I would post a stage at Area 3 where I was breaking shots at about 175 degrees, and my wife was taking video behind the start position. When I am shooting fast (for me) hits (.18-.20), the muzzle barely moves, and all you see is the slide cycling. When I stopped to make some long shots, you can see me relaxing (unconsciously) to take the shots, and the muzzle jumps more then.

This has been posted on the forum before, but maybe not here..

I was just on TGO's website. His Open load is Major 9. 135g with vv350

I have some SP2 that I load 125's with to make Major in the Glock (I'll update this post with some load datat sometime).

Hello again guys. I tried the search...honest.

It seems back here, people are using small pistol primers even for the hot-rodded supers. I was wondering how safe these major 9 loads are with small pistol primers. I'm particularly interested in the VVN350 and SP2 loads because these are the powders I can find here.

Appreciate hearing your experiences.

Thanks.

McOliver,

I switched from small rifle to small pistol no noticeable difference in flow. Previously I when I was loading for my .40 open I was using small pistol and 135JHP making a 186 pf no flow or flattening. In addition years ago when I loaded for 38Super it was small pistol.

Let me know if you need SP2 Data I do have some loaded rounds I can go pull one and weigh the charge.

Sorry NMinzghor, I guess I should read more carefully.

I am having Dan Bedell build me a gun. I wanted to give JL a try but after talking with him, a) he is pretty backed up ( a good sign, but I hate waiting) B) he only sells guns with 4 magazines. I already had mags and I know I can get them to work. I undertand his rationing but......

Was also hard to beat Dan's service and price. I should have it about the time I have recovered from this damn herniated disc.

Oh, and it will be 9 major. I know I know......
