toothguy
Nothing is born, nothing is destroyed. Away with your dualism, your likesand dislikes. Miranda
.... a mind. I have been searching. As light is required for us to see, I want to know what is required for us to understand. a brain is part of the understanding, yes. That the same as saying eyes are needed to see... along with the light. so what is the 'light' part of understanding? how does understanding get transmitted through the brain to our mind? benos
.... a mind. I have been searching. As light is required for us to see, I want to know what is required for us to understand. What do you mean by "understand"? To deeply and thoughtlessly "get it," or to "agree"?
Miranda
and yet another question to be considered. what is understanding? I think I was aiming at answering what is a mind. understanding is something we do with our mind. Seeing, hearing, smelling, and walking are also done with our mind .... umm, apparently with different aspects of out minds... to be clear I have to state that eyes, ears, nose, and feet are the organs we use to do those things. They have in common, our brains and finally, our minds. To answer your question as directly as I am able, and to pick just one of the question as posed, the "get it," side. "Understanding" is also knowing in all ways possible. Annoyingly enough, that would also include the concept in "agree." Understanding is something we do with our brains and mind. An idea is a manifestation of what is held and understood, somehow, in our mind and brain. We know it happens, to have an idea or to suddenly understand. I have seen ideas/understandings cross the faces of cats, dogs and children. It is done in the mind. I would like to understand what I see then. miranda

benos
miranda, A question long ago once asked: "What is mind?" The sage's answer: "Mind is that which knows." Knowing - not dependent on conditioning or thinking - mind... When you see smoke you know there is fire. Thinking - rooted in conditioned, agreeing, and confused - mind... Who started the fire? Understanding - where does it fit in? I don't know. Living within the knowing mind - is the peace of thusness.
