Episode 50 - Gunsmithing with JPL : Checkering

This week, we start a small segment focusing on what most competitive shooters end up learning, gunsmithing. Although some might adopt this career path, most are just happy with know enough to maintain and improve their competition guns. We've asked John from http://www.jplprecision.com to come back and show us how things are done in his shop. In this week's case, all about checkering the front strap of a 1911 frame.

If there's something you want to see John cover, please send us an email at powerfactorshow@gmail.com.

Episode 51 - Competition vs Self Defense

The proverbial comparison. The instigator of many rule arguments and interpretations. Shooting games like USPSA and IDPA were originally created to simulate real-world self defense scenarios but have changed dramatically to take into account safety and consistency. So the question we get most of the time is, does participating in USPSA or IDPA help with Self Defense skills?

I love your show but someone has to tell Caleb to use his indoor voice* when recording the podcast. I listen to the audio version in the car and my speakers pop every time he gets excited. Maybe Rick and Caleb can switch their meds for a show?

Episode 55 - Local Rules

USPSA and IDPA are largely governing bodies for the sport and the rules are laid out to ensure consistency across all participants and clubs. There are times when there are requests by local ranges/clubs to modify the rules or institute local criteria as these are usually safety related. Clubs do this because they don't want to risk losing their operating licenses. This week Steve, Rick and Caleb sit down to talk about this slightly heated topic that has got everybody in the local community up in arms.

Also, by popular request, we're accepting Course Designs and Courses of Fire videos from anyone for us to review/critique/advise. Please send them in to powerfactorshow@gmail.com

Good discussion on a tough/touchy subject. DO we break out the pros from the amateurs and if so how do you decide who is a pro. Like Rick's idea of a higher entry fee for pros and a cash prize for them. If you want to play with the pros, just pony up the money and anyone can compete with them. Us amateurs would pay a lower fee and play for the prize table.
