Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Oooops........did I say that was a .75 draw? Actually you were 1.75 on the draw.........with some great transitions! Will they teach me how to run a timer in the RO class? Icer ---Too shallow for a cool sig line---
  2. Flex--- Just do what we boys from Nevada do in the PRK.........Don't ask. Don't tell. And smile sweetly at the nice officer. Should be a great match!
  3. Anybody ever bring the reload magazine up with the gun at the buzzer and shoot with the spare mag in the weak hand? Just thought it might speed up the reload........which is the time consuming part of this stage. I assume it would be gaming but not breaking the rules since it doesn't specify when you must pick up the mag.
  4. More than likely yes..........each AR receiver is different so trying a few out before purchasing is a great idea...... Of the two plastic mags commonly available the Thermold is the best......... I have seen some really ugly Orlite mags and many of the ones currently on the market are used and beat to hell........
  5. John--- It will be interesting to see what the new Beretta Vertec feels like.......it looks like they may have changed the grip angle, which would be too bad.......the last thing they need to do is make it feel and point like a Cougar. The dovetailed front site would have been nice if they had done it 5 years ago........and it will be interesting to see if the accessory rail is Weaver compatible or their own bastard configuration. After suffering through the Cougar and 9000s failures I have a hard time having much faith in the Beretta pistol design department.
  6. Flex--- The Ken Onion designed Kershaw's are impressive little knives.......and they sell at a very reasonable price. Quality has been uniformly high and customers are happy with the user-friendliness they exhibit........especially the chive and scallion models. Great for everyday pocket carry. I would say the two best deals in knives today are the products from CRKT and Kershaw........
  7. Jerome--- Looks like I've successfully drifted another thread.......sorry Julien..... There were only about 750 AR-70's imported into the United States so there is not much info available on them.......accessories can be difficult to find and are usually priced in the ridiculous range. I haven't heard of any glaring weak points in the design, nor have I seen owners stocking up on things like firing pins and extractors.......this would lead me to believe that the engineering is fairly solid and that, more than likely, no one is out there beating the snot out of them like you might with an AK. I consider it a reliable gun to have in my assault rifle collection, and a fun gun to take out to the range, but it would not be the first rifle I would grab if Osama popped up in my backyard.......I might need more than one magazine full of .223........thoroughness is a virtue For more info and possible spare parts try this buy/sell/info board..........www.sturmgewehr.com........
  8. Brian--- Johnny is one reason why IPSC and Steel are having a bit of a revival here in Northern Nevada.......and its nice to have top shooters come play with us when they're in town visiting Johnny. Plus he's quite the character.
  9. Singlestack--- I have one 30 round mag for my AR-70 for which I paid $125, and I felt like it was a bargain. Found it at the SOF show in Vegas a few years ago. A Beretta AR-70 in great shape will go in the $1700-$2200 price range depending on accessories. I got lucky and picked mine up for $400.......which made paying so much for the mag a little easier to accept.
  10. Come on Erik.....move to Reno. Everybody that's cool is doing it.......24 hour gambling and drinking, legalized prostitution, a state legislature that only meets every other year for a maximum of 120 days........it really is the promised land. P.S. Did I mention the machine guns and suppressors?
  11. I started shooting IPSC last July with my Glock 23. I switched to a Glock 35 in October '00. I classed B Limited last October with the 23 and made A Limited in five months with the 35. I shot my first major pistol match in July, the Area 1 in Marysville, and took second in A class. I also managed to win a stage. This was all done with a mildly modified Glock that has gotten me more grief from fellow shooters than I care to remember. This gun is more accurate than I am by a long shot and the only reason my splits aren't faster is because I don't practice them. I went into this game with a strong desire to beat my local competitors. I received advice from them to the effect that I should shoot slow and try to get good hits........I said screw it and went for speed. I wanted to know if I could run a stage as fast as the hot Open guys. When I proved to myself that I had the speed I throttled back a bit and went to work on the basics. Never once did the Glock fail or hold me back. Most every competitor in my local club that started about the time I did has switched to a more expensive gun. They have all slowed their progress by continually screwing with their equipment hoping to find a magical solution. It's not out there. My best advice for new shooters, and shooters who want to improve quickly, is to practice with the top shooters in your club. Pick their brains and copy their moves.......without bugging the crap out of them. Quit squadding with your regular shooting buddies every time and go hang out with the old guys who intimidated the hell out of you when you first joined "their" club. They usually drop pearls of wisdom all over the place. Become a big fish in your small pond and then go find the ocean. When I go to another club I find out who the hot shooters are and try to squad with them. That's how I got to know Erik Warren and some of the other fast Northern California shooters. Most of all forget about the equipment........a Glock won't hold you back........but an uncompetitive attitude will.
  12. Congratulations Kevin!!!!! One hell of an accomplishment. If I might ask.......how long have you been shooting IPSC?......and how long did you spend at Master?..... Just curious........and trying to gauge my own progress.
  13. I'll second Kelly's advice.......... You'll see a lot more improvement spending $15 on dummy rounds and wandering around your house like a fool practicing reloading.........never fails to crack up my girlfriend.
  14. Jerome--- Did you get 8 or 30 round mags for you're Beretta AR-70?....... It took me quite a while to track down a 30 rounder for a reasonable price here in the states........ Well worth it though.......the rifle looked funny with a little 8 round mag in it.
  15. R.O.'s typically shake their head and mutter "What a waste" when they score the swingers I shoot at........the guy stuck picking up brass usually gives me a dirty look also come to think of it...... Best fish tacos---Sam's Place, South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. With cole slaw, salsa, and TWO packets of hot sauce!
