I recently installed the 13 inch rifle length Viking Tactics version that I bought from CPWSA: Handguard link (Chris Patty is an outstanding person to buy from, BTW) It went over a JP low profile adjustable gas block and middy 16 inch barrel. The gas adjustment screw is accessible thru the slot in front of it. Compared to my friends' JP handguards, I'd say it's a bit lighter. That's just by feel, however. I've haven't been able to take actual weight measurements yet. Diameter-wise, I'd say it's smaller. I have no complaints so far, but I've only shot it off the bench to check POI. I still need to shoot it in a match. But it definitely feels great. Gordo

Recommend using dryer sheets in the tumbler with the media, too. Seems to help keep the media cleaner and reduce dust. Read about this in some of the other threads, tried it, and it does seem to help. YMMV, of course. And my brass smells spring time fresh after tumbling.

With Limited I look for a gap or transition to another bank of targets that gives me room to execute a reload. I always want to go into the next bank/engagement with the gun full, up and level with my face and muzzle pointing in their direction (w/o breaking the 180) when I get there. I also do this with Limited 10 and Production. The key for me is to keep busy preparing, moving and setting up for the next engagement during the course of fire, so my reloads are generally dictated by the gaps between target(s) engagements and the amount of rounds in those banks. I generally don't count rounds as I'm shooting, I just usually make sure I do my reloads during those gaps/transitions.

Just had my BHP done by Daniel (DMH). What can I say... it's AWESOME! He did mine with a satin finish. I love how the Cobalt plating color came out on my pistol, slightly darker than hard chrome with just barely a tint of blue. (to my eyes, anyway) Absolutely gorgeous finish. Thank you, Daniel! I'll post again after I finish abusing... err, I mean testing the plating with my sweat and general neglect. It's been cooking in my car parked in the sun with a generous coating of my sweat for a couple days. So far, nada. Nothing. It's like the Cobalt plating just doesn't care. I 've had fellow shooters claim I could rust plastic... Gordo

Crusher, can one also do this with a tungsten 2 piece guide rod? I have one in my SVI I would like to convert into a one piece GR.

yeah... I saw it, too. but I'm not sure what to say about it being featured in that way, though...

4.8 N320 180 MG JHP 1.138" OAL .420" crimp WSP mixed brass Two SV Infinity standard dust-covers w/Schuemann barrels, tungsten guide rods. Makes about 168-169 PF out of both pistols. Groups tend to range 1" to 1.5" @ 25yds. Softest load I've found, yet. (Titegroup also works well, but has sharper felt recoil to me)

Weeeell, Rhino... couldn't quite say. I guess I ran out of Rems after loading the 1st mag, and had dig around the gun room to find some more ammo for the 2nd mag... Saber probably was all I could find!

SVI 40 or SVI 45, Windy-chester SX2, and FN-FAL 16" carbine w/Smith comp.

I'm thinking about mounting a TA01B on my FN-FAL carbine... anyone have this set-up? Would really like your thoughts and opinions. I already have a DSA HD scope mount... on their website under gunsmithing services I found "Modify DSA scope mount for Trijicon ACOG sight" - anyone know what this is all about? Thanks in advance!

sgt, I'll describe what I have, if it helps any: Two limited SVI's built by SV & the conversions done by Noel Alfaro (the best 'n craziest gunsmith I've ever met! ) that take advantage of the interchangeable breechface system... the first can go .38 super, .38 supercomp & .40 S&W. The second can go 9mm, .40S&W & .45ACP... (told you he was crazy) The .355 calibers intended for steel, the rest for IPSC, bowling pins, etc. or whatever. Set-up correctly, changing calibers in both pistols is a breeze and fun! It's also real nice that the .38 super mags are used for 9mm. On a side note, both were full profile slide and full dust-cover originally, and I asked Noel to cut both dust covers cut back to standard length and put front scallop cuts back in both slides. Seems to make the pistols swing easier and balance point shifts back towards the hand - feels better to me, anyway. L9X25 is right in that re-sighting for each caliber is an issue, but not for me at the present time... I'm extremely fortunate that I have a range nearby that I can do re-sighting whenever I please. benos' method of recording sight change settings sounds like the way to go. (I haven't tried it yet) It's impossible to get bored now with these pistols! All the best, Gordo P.S. - Oh, and BTW the 9mm set-up is my favorite... it's sweeeeet shootin'!

I got down to about a 9# or 10# recoil spring with my SV40 (full dust cover & slab slide) and it ran reliably. Suggest a LIGHT oil - FP10 or something like it. Heavy oils may cause a problem, ie. slowing down the slide. After some time I had the dust cover cut to standard length and scallop cuts back in the slide - less weight to mess around with for steel and IPSC, esp. since the PF dropped. Now it's fun, fun, fun!!!

Big thanks to scooterj for giving me some of his ammo so I could finish this match! (ok, so I forgot to reload...) BTW, some of the nicest people you'll ever meet at a shooting match are in South Louisiana... and you always get a great match and great food! Gordo

After an initial break-in period (about 200 rounds or so), mine runs beautifully. Even running 7/8 ounce loads at this time... waaayyy too much fun to shoot! I've had it since Dec. 2001 and no problems. Recommend it highly. (Edited by Gordo at 11:16 am on Jan. 29, 2003)

Mike, When you're shooting shotgun, do you close your left/dominant eye...? I've been told that's a big no-no... I'm supposed to keep both eyes open. But up to now that's what I've had to do. Gordo (Edited by Gordo at 8:57 am on Jan. 28, 2003)

I'm curious... are there any other methods other than clear tape on your glasses to train the weak eye to do the aiming? I'm also left eye dominant/right-handed shooter, and would like to try some 3-gunning. Thanks in advance! (Edited by Gordo at 10:09 am on Jan. 26, 2003)
