Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Whew! For a second there I thought you were going to name that other planet. Nobody wants to see that... pmacb Sorry Ignatz, P38 space modulators are indeed pulse weapons - but you will have an unobstructed view of Venus throughout the match. Craig
  2. One of the voices in my head is telling me to put a red dot sight on my 627 and shoot open class in ICORE. For anyone who's already been similarly afflicted which worked better for you: a c-more style sight or a tube style sight? Have a brand recommendation? Anything worth buying for under $100? Thanks, pmacb
  3. Hey, I was retro before retro was cool (GP100 w/HKS speedloaders from velcroed pouches)! Of course, that's because that was the equipment I had (and still use sometimes). If it would have a effect on ICORE like Producton did on USPSA then I'm all for it. Ditto if it would attract some wheel-gunners from IDPA. pmacb
  4. I took almost the exact same route. G19 -> G27 -> S&W 642. The G27 was amazingly accurate for a little gun, but it's thickness and weight meant (for me) that it ended up staying home when it should have been with me. Every so often I look at some of the new carry autos like the Walther and Kahr, but inertia, cost and an old school mentality keep the 642 at the top of the heap. pmacb

    Glock 19 set-up

I've had the usual collection of leather belt slide holsters, fabric IWB holsters and nylon small of the back holsters. I've settled on a cheapie Fobus paddle holster. Yes, they'll come apart if someone tries to snatch your gun, but if I'm carrying concealed, nobody's supposed to know I have it in the first place. YMMV, of course

    Glock 19 set-up

For carry I'd go with fresh night sites and stock internals. I've used a G19 in Limited and Production for years without a single hiccup. They're as reliable as a hammer right out of the box.
  7. +1 I'm in the same boat as Peakbagr, this was my first experience at anything larger than a local match, and even though I didn't shoot very well (a massive understatement) working the match was a great experience. For those who were there, I was one of the shameless applause whores from pit 3 (by acclamation everyone's favorite stage!! :roflol: ). Thanks to John and all involved for a great match! pmacb
  8. Just to be difficult, let me suggest a 4" S&W K-frame 38 Spl. Get a good condition used gun (or maybe even police trade-in) with adjustable sights. With no changes you can use it for plinking, IDPA/ICORE/USPSA or even CCW if you can hide it. Also, the world is still swamped K frame holsters, speed loaders, gunsmiths, etc. Unless you're planning on shooting a ton of hot or magnum loads, you'll never wear out a model 15 (or the stainless version a mod 67) or a 19 (or mod 66). pmacb
  9. As threatened promised, here's the updated "Shaun" stage. I've tried to make it more freestyle and "faster" in the first half. How does it look now? pmacb shaun_of_colonie_v3.pdf
  10. Wow, I guess I should've checked back on this topic once in a while! To gino_aki: Thanks for the idea of curving the stage. I think that'll be a much better way to keep the stage narrative without being too restrictive. To Hi-Power Jack: Our season just ended with the approach of winter, but the Watervliet Practical Shooters calendar can be found at the Watervliet Fish and Game Protective Association webpage (www.wfgpa.org). To Anon: Poor planning on my part. I left my M4 in the cabin when I went to the outhouse. As to the goners, c'mon, some of those no-shoots are close personal friends of mine! I'm working on an updated version incorporating most of your suggestions which I'll post once I'm done tinkering and get it converted to pdf. Thanks for the help! pmacb
  11. ChuckS, Thanks for the advice. I fixed the "ready condition" problem (D'Oh!), changed box B to a free fire zone and salted the area with some additional no-shoots uprange of the targets. I"m sure there'll be additional changes found after we shoot it locally. pmacb
  12. You're probably not going to believe this, but I stumbled on some positive (local) media coverage. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=...&id=6329110
  13. After shooting this sport for several years, and lurking on this board for some time I decided to take a double plunge and make my first post a request for comments about my first ever stage. The narrative is obviously "zombies" and Colonie is the town where the home club (Watervliet Practical Shooters) shoots. I'm torn about the no-shoots near the box c barricade. My thought was to have the shooter go through the barricade's port, but in hindsight that's not very freestyle of me. There's already one slight addition to the course, there's a notation in the set up notes that the diagram's not to scale. Well, have at it. What could I do better? shaun_of_colonie.pdf
