Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Each year, as I mentioned above, the winner of the six shots at the $100.00 bill had 4 of the six shots in the bill and the other two were close. They shot with the pistol they were going to shoot in the match the next day and with iron sights only from standing, two hands permissible This was a novelty shoot. The course of fire for the finals included the Top 40 qualifiers and this was much more difficult. That's why the best in the world showed up. Doc
  2. Hi-Power Jack, Neither Rodd Redwing nor Thell Reed were there. Several IPSC shooter's, however, were. On my website you will see many pictures of some of the shooters. That they were good is an understatement. To break the tension a little I had them shoot six shots at a $100.00 bill at 100 yards. This event was held on Friday afternoon before the Top 40 match on the next day, Saturday. Each year the winner had 4 of six shots in the bill, the other two shots on the 8 1/2x 11 inch paper. All six shots taken were from standing. To see much of the course of fire see my website. Thanks for the question, Doc Burgess

  4. Hello, I'm Doc Burgess founder of the National Shooters League. My email address is tip.cardinal@mail.com I found some comments on this website about my match that is dated 2015. My match was held for five years from 1975 through 1979. All the Gun magazines of the day wrote articles about my match. The first article was by Bill Jordan, in GUNS magazine. Massad Ayoob, Mickey Fowler, Jim Clark, Colonel Charles Askins, and many others wrote about it. Mason Williams and Major George Nonte included chapters in their books about it. I had shooters from 32 states and they were the best shooters in the world. Included were National champions from all the shooting disciplines: Camp Perry champions, PPC champions, the Womens 6 times National Pistol Champion, Ida Mae Younger; the Secret Service, the FBI, Texas Rangers, Reeves Junkind training officer; IPSC champions and military champions who had won matches all over the world. Many of the civilians, High Way Patrol, Sheriffs, U.S. Marshalls, and others had won International matches while in the military. The Marine Corps sent their best, one year, an active duty Master Sergeant. Mel Makin was a three times Gold Medal winner of the Pan American games and in the Army Reserves. Frank Green was the Olympic pistol coach and himself a Silver medal winner in the Olympic games. He had been the Captain of the Air Force Pistol team. The LAPD always sent their team to the match. Ad Clark was a Navy pilot and one of the best shooters I ever saw. He won my match two different years shooting the Model 29 .44 mag with full go loads. You may find the NSL discussed on my website at docburgessknives.com Just scroll down to the bottom of any page and click on The National Shooters League. Good shooting, Doc Those old boys could shoot!
