Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Finally had a chance to go to the outdoor range. Attached were the 3 best 5 rounds groups I shot. Please note that I'm very new to shooting as I just started Jan 2017 so still working on my skills and techniques, appleseed did help even when bench shooting.... so this Nordic 22RB upper can shoot 1 moa or better. I shot 4 different ammo today.... CCI AR tactical, CCI standard velocity, Aguila super extra subsonic/std velocity, and RWS target (orange and black box). Surprisingly my Nordic upper prefer the cheap CCI Std Velocity as it consistent shot the best, the aguila and RWS kind of alternate, the AR tactical shot the worse but as this was supersonic round I wasn't surprise. All the ammo cycled fine, no duds, no fte/ftf, no light primer strike. (I was having light primer strike issue with the Ruger Elite 452 2 stages trigger with notched hammer, swap to a geiselle 2 stage) Interesting thing was I zeroed using the CCI AR tactical (as I have crap load and they were cheaper compare to the other 3), but did not zero between ammos, the POI varies with the different ammo, I was expecting the POI to shift up and down due to velocity difference creating difference in drop. but the RWS tend to shoot to the left while the aguila shoot to the right, is that typical...?
  2. Still have not bench it yet, but i just shot riflrman 2wice on my first appleseed. Best group was a 5 rounds 2 moa group prone unsupported I also found out the nordic bcg does not like my ruger elite 452 trigger as it has a notched hammer causing bind and light primer strike, have a geiselle 2 stage on the way
  3. So finally got this Nordic 22RB uppers working right with Bolt Hold Open on S&W 15-22 Mags, as above post, end up with a dedicated Lower and a ARcatch22 bolt catch and a bastardized Better Mag adapter to function as a shim (so I don't have to shim the mag and they can be interchangeable with the 15-22). Videos of it working, don't mind the missing FCG, the trigger is being RMA warranty. Grip is just a cheap place holder till I finish swapping things around.
  4. I have not yet have chance to seriously shoot this upper yet. Only was able to shoot standing unsupported at 25 yards and I'm a new/lousy shooter I've came across a 22lr specific bolt catch that appears to work with the nordic gen 3 bolt. at least when I used snapcap and pull the charging handle they seem to work right and correctly hold open the bolt by blocking the bolt feed/round stripper . https://www.arcatch22.com/ So I'm going to build a dedicated lower instead. Hopefully I will get to goto the outdoor 100 yard range bench shooting over the next few week (if wife/baby allow) and see how it compare to my S&W 15-22 and my budget build AR15. I mostly build this nordic because I was thinking to do the appleseed training and the 15-22 ban doesn't appear to be lifting ever. For those wanting to use the S&W 15-22 magazine the AR catch22 bolt hold open will not work with the bettermag adapter by default. 2 options here.... 1) Don't use the better mag adapter and use AR catch 22 with the derlin shims on the 15-22 magazine. Which works but then the mag cannot be share with the 15-22 until you take the shim off. 2) Remove more material toward the back of the better mag adapter so that it doesn't block the arcatch22, note that this will PERMENANTLY render the adapter no longer be able to perform the bolt hold open function for ceiner/cmmg style bolt. So the better mag adapter in this case merely function as a shim installed in the lower for a better fit for the 15-22 magazine only and does not have any bolt hold open feature, the BHO is accomplish via the ARcatch22 bolt release. in both case would mean a dedicated lower (unless you consider swapping the bolt catch quick/easy field option, potentially of losing spring/plunger made this not an option for me) I'm going with the 2nd route as I like the idea my 15-22 mags being able to share with the Nordic without the shim. I'll see if I can post an update once I get this all finish... need to goto harbor freight to buy a rotary tool to mod the adapter (last time I borrow my friend's dremel) Makes me want to get a 3d printer and see if I can print a mag adapter....
  5. Regarding better mag adapter.... 2 part answer By default, the adapter wont work with nordic gen 3. There is just a bit too much material, You can dremel to remove some materials from the adapter on the extractor side and the back/bolt release side so that the bolt can cycle correctly... this works great to take out the slop/loose s&w 15-22 mag issue. On the bolt hold open... The standard ar15 bolt release will not work on gen 3 bolt, the std ar15 bolt release will catch the back portion underside of the bolt preventing the bolt from closing. In a sense it worked as a bolt hold open BUT.... when used with the better mag bit that raise with the mag follower and raise the ar15 bolt release also... the bolt release catch as the bolt strip the last round from the mag.... so the last round is partially chamber and then the bolt would stuck not close all the way..... Is the gen 3 bolt firing pin pinned to prevent damage to the breech face? If used without the bolt hold open. I worry that if i dry fire after the last round it would eventually damage the breech face
